As Sole laid on their cot in the meager clinic of Sunshine Tidings Co-Op, their breath coming in rough, ragged gasps, their wounds just having stopped bleeding, Preston would have his head in his hands. He’d be worried out of his mind for this person he cared so much for, and he would finally realize that he didn’t care about status, he didn’t care that others might see it as inappropriate or wrong, he didn’t care if people finally knew how he felt, even if Sole didn’t return his feelings. That wasn’t what mattered. They deserved to know the truth, they deserved to know that, if they died, he didn’t think he would be able to go on. That, if it weren’t for them, he might not even be here at all. That they meant not just something to Preston, they meant everything to him.
