“Could I get your number?” they ask, as if they’re not still a completely faceless enigma that’s been making one-sided passes for two weeks now.
“So I’m supposed to exchange messages with someone who I wouldn’t even be able to pick out of a police lineup if this ends up being just a long con to get me to join a cult?”
To her shock, they place an elbow on the bar, lean over, and lower the hood.
“Does this increase my chances?” they ask with a goofy smile.
They're cute. Like 90s teen drama cute. Like Catra could see them singing fucking annoying pop songs outside her window cute. That’s not good. This person is absolutely trouble.
“Fuck,” Catra breathes out. It kinda feels like someone just kicked her right in the gut in a thrilling way. “You couldn’t have the decency to make this easier by being ugly?”
Catra finally meets the woman of her dreams/nightmares, a goofball blonde with big captain save-a-ho energy. She's easy going, gets Catra's jokes, and likes her band, even though it's pretty shitty and Catra's sabotaging them from the inside. It's just a shame that the girl is already competing on a reality show for 20 women's hearts.

Summary
Catra is not a lifestyle writer. She is an investigative journalist who specializes in uncovering fraud, corruption, and scandals, and she has no business writing any kind of piece on any kind of Valentine's Day Charity Ball.
But, when her boss plops down an assignment folder containing two tickets to the most romantic event of the season, and the expectation that her roommate will be joining her for the evening, Catra finds herself out of her depth in more ways that one.
How the hell is she supposed to get through a night hanging off her best friend in a suit without letting it slip that she's been in love with her for over 10 years?

It's been 10 years since Adora got transferred out of Shadow Weaver's home, and by extension, 10 years since she's seen her best friend. She thinks she's doing fine for herself. She just finished up her first year of college with a 3.8 GPA, and is ready to take it easy over break with a lowkey summer job and some MCAT flashcards to keep her company.
And then Catra slides over the concessions counter with her only intent to make Adora's life a living hell. At least if you ask Adora, anyway.
