Summary
In one timeline, Loki falls from the shattered Rainbow Bridge and is lost in the void. He is found by Thanos and reforged, sent to Earth to conquer and claim the Tesseract for the Mad Titan. He provides the spark to help unite the Avengers.
In one timeline, Don McDonnell goes out for drinks and meets a nice lady. They date, marry, move to a larger house, and have children together. Then he is left alone with their sons and jet skis.
But in a different branch, Don never goes out because the God of Mischief crashed on his lawn. And he has always had a soft spot for broken things. -

Summary
Loki was always rather fluid and everchanging. He had a preferred gender and appearance, but that didn't keep him from shifting for a while every decade or so. Or if he felt a particular need for a different shape. He merely tucked away his other forms until he wished to use them. But they were always a part of him.
But each shape came with their own benefits and vulnerabilities. And what happened to one could carry over even after he changed to a new form. It didn't disappear.
Dark things in dark places can occur. And the repercussions can continue even after he found his way outside of the normal timeline.

But using his body to channel a matter-and-anti-matter reaction to overload the Time Ripper was trying its best to exceed any physical pain that he’d ever experienced. He’d known it would be bad. Even as he’d desperately tried to batter down the door with all the mass that an adamantium-coated skeleton could offer, he’d known. Paradox’s warnings about the process being guaranteed to atomize the person serving as the connection told him that it would be agonizing, but he still wasn’t fully prepared for the sheer intensity of it when he grabbed Wade’s hand and stabbed his claws into the opposite end of the machine to complete the circuit.

Life is not always willing to wait for better circumstances.” Letting one hand drift up to his shoulder, Frigga said, “Energy is energy, regardless of the form it takes. In the right circumstances, your magic can be briefly rekindled by powerful emotions fueling the strength that only the truly desperate can reach. It won’t be easy and it won’t endure long, but it can be done if your need is great.”
“Powerful emotions?” asked Loki.
“Overwhelming rage and hatred. Fear for your life or for those around you.” Leaning forward, Mother pressed a small kiss to his forehead. “Love. All of them overwhelming forces capable of the impossible, my child. Never underestimate any of them. Especially the last.”
Centuries later and outside of time, his mother's words become far too relevant. Because Loki is truly desperate and those powerful emotions are certainly present in ample supply. There are some people that he refuses to lose, even if they have the worst timing on making certain feelings known.

An encounter with a Variant results in Loki coming in contact with a dangerous magical artifact. One that is guaranteed to extinguish the life out of anyone who is unfortunate enough to be affected by it. He knows that he is doomed the moment it happens.
His friends are not likely to let that happen.

“I’m eighteen, if that’s what you’re worried about,” the kid continues, shifting slightly, and his voice is quiet and subdued and hoarse, and Steven’s knee bounces.
“That’s not,” Steven says, “That’s not why I came over here. Ah,” he licks his lips, unsure how to continue. The kid raises an eyebrow, expression very clearly reading then why the hell are you over here, and Steven clears his throat a bit. “Just,” he says. “To talk.”
Or: Marc happens to pass by a random homeless kid on the streets of New York. This, it turns out, is a mistake, because Steven- Steven, for some Khonshu-damned reason, grows attached.
(And Marc doesn't. He really, really doesn't. He swears.)

Summary
Loki dies on Svartalfheim. Then he wakes up. It does not take long before Hela seizes the opportunity to offer Loki a deal: end Thanos's life in exchange for his own. Loki knows defeating Thanos will be no easy feat and so a conversation with the Norns becomes part of the bargain.
The Norns tell him three things:
1. His only path to success lies in utilising the Infinity Stones
2. The Infinity Stone contained within the Tesseract – the only stone he will ever wield – will not be enough on its own
3. The name of a potential ally who has the highest capacity to both wield another one of the Infinity Stones and collaborate alongside himAnd that name... That name is Tony Stark.
