Summary
Grian presumed his soul was actively leaving his body – providing him with just another last minute delusion to take him into the next life - until he heard music.
His tired delusions were a lot of things, but they were never music.
Grian blinked, once, twice, then a third time. Still, the shape on the horizon didn’t fade. The light didn’t fade. The music didn’t fade. This wasn’t the blurry shadow of what may or may not be a rock, or the light of the moon against a wave imitating a town. This was a genuine miracle. This was his relief.
It was a ship!

After being cursed by a witch, Grian finds himself stuck in the form of a parrot with no way to change back, and only a conveniently handsome pirate captain to rely on until he reaches land.

Avian Customs for the Young, the Dumb, and the Inbetween
The Complete Revised Instruction on Doing Things Right, Expanded“Wouldn’t the challenge be fun, Scar?”
She’s goading him, taunting, pulling him towards something promising, indiscernible to himself. She’s similar to Grian in that way. Her smile is sharp when she speaks. “Go big or go home, am I right?”
And Scar can tell she says it on purpose, he can see the smugness in the way her lips tilt up, he can see the satisfaction in her eyes. She knows she had him trapped before she even spoke.
He decides, quite easily, that if he is willing to do this for Grian, then he is also willing to do this for Pearl.
Or, Scar finds himself wrapped up in centuries-old customs that are much larger than himself. No one is surprised when he stumbles into love.

Summary
The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

Summary
Joel couldn't help but notice the very attractive man at the other side of the room.
“You're staring,” Grian said, his face twisting. “Stop being a parasocial nerd and grow some balls to talk to him.”
Joel rolled his eyes before turning to Jimmy, only to be met with empty space.
“I bet you twenty that you're not going to talk to —”
“Deal,” Joel said, setting down his drink on the counter a little too hard, and he winced at the sound. He silently thanked a non-existent God that the music was too loud for people to notice. “I am getting that twenty dollars, Gri-an.” He popped the last syllable before trying to make his way towards the guy, who was now leaning on the kitchen door frame, hair white and clearly damaged from the aggressive bleaching.
tl;dr, joel and etho hook up in a frat party
