Everyone knew that Tommy didn't have a power.
He never got a power when he was four or five, he never had wings suddenly emerge from his back like his dad, he never accidentally controlled someone like Wilbur, he never got put into a rage like Techno. Nothing unusual ever happened.
Sure, when he was eight he started becoming more distant, and wouldn't go into the bathrooms until he got his own and changed what was bothering him so much, but nothing ever truly unusual happened that would show sign of a power. Everyone knew that Tommy was powerless.
Everyone was also horribly, horribly wrong.

Summary
Grian always bursts into their little, cozy attic right before things can go terribly wrong. Like that one time Ranboo had wanted to cook dinner. Tommy is pretty sure Grian had been asleep at the time of the occasion, judging by how messed up his blond hair was, yet he ran up two floors -four sets of stairs, fifteen steps each- and then burst through the door with a shout of "NO, DON'T DO IT!!!".
It had been an eventful night that one, ending with a scolding and a very much grounded Ranboo. Which is weird, because Grian isn't Ranboo's parent, he is just their neighbor.
And, at this point, it's just the norm for Grian to know what they are up to. The trio's theory is that the avian has a sixth sense or something.
"Oh, hey Tommy and Tubbo!" Grian greets as he bends to pick up the fallen, heavy-looking boxes. "You're looking chipper today. Work went well, I'm guessing?"
"Oh, Hell yeah! We mugged a guy!"
"You did what-"

Summary
‘My name is Tommy, I'm mute. What's your name?', he writes. He turns the notebook for the other to see, hoping the light shining in from a nearby window is enough for the other to be able to read it.
The boy swallows, the frown on his face never slipping. He holds a hand out for the book, and Tommy hesitantly decides to toss it to him, along with his pen. The two aren't that far away from eachother and Tommy has the high ground anyway, but it seems they both decide to take the more safe routes with eachother.
He flips the page in the notebook, writes something down, turns it towards Tommy.
'Tubbo.', it reads in rather slightly messier handwriting, 'I can't hear very well.'
Or, in which it takes a zombie apocalypse for two lonely boys to end up accidentally crossing paths and meeting eachother. It’s almost ironic to Tommy; the way he was able to find such a good thing in a slowly dying world.

“Well.” The mysterious being bounced on the balls of his feet as he looked around the kitchen. “Not quite what I expected from my first summoning, but it’s nice! It’s great, really. Very creative.” He reached out and patted Tubbo firmly on the head before his lagging brain could move out of range. “Good job. So, what can I do for you?”
