A beat.
“I’m sorry.” Tommy said, slightly surprised to feel genuine sorrow for the hero. The idea that their roles could’ve been reversed- it scared Tommy, more than he was willing to admit.
Mercury let out a small, sad chuckle.
“It’s not your fault,” he said quietly. “It’s not anyone's fault.” He sighed, looking up.
The sky was still cloudy.
“It's just the way the cards were dealt.”

Tommy needed to get the fuck out of here yesterday.
He slammed his foot down on the brake of his stolen car and shifted into drive, ignoring the chaos of the superpowered fight going on less than a block away. He was about to pull out of the alley he was hidden in when the passenger door was abruptly yanked open. Tommy jumped, head snapping towards the door.
He came face to face with a man wearing an opaque black veil.
Shit.
Or: Tommy is a teenager on the run from the number one superhero in the city, Dream. In his most humble opinion, he's doing great at staying under the radar while making his escape attempt.
That is until three of the most feared villains in the city decide he's now their getaway driver. Fuck his life

Wilbur was a phantom, which meant he was sensitive to the sleeping habits of others. Especially when they hadn’t slept well.
And Tommy had barely slept at all.
Fuck.
Or, Tommy is a vigilante fostered by civilian Wilbur. His poor sleeping habits catch up to him and instinct hijinks ensue.
