Chapter Text
"Lan Zhan?"
"Hm?"
"Can you taste the stars, like, when you go all supernova and swallow a universe? Does it feel spicy or icy spirit on your throat?"
"...Wei Ying... What?"
Or
The Normal Human Lan Wangji must deal with the Immortal Soul Wei Wuxian and the fate that binds them together.
Lan Zhan always got the feeling that Wei Ying was more than what he was. More than his body could handle. More than anyone could understand.
Lan Zhan was a quiet boy before Wei Ying; well, he was still silent, but Wei Ying took pride in being Lan Zhan's voice. That didn't mean Wei Ying talked normally, though; he always said out-of-pocket things that felt like he was questioning everything's existence, and only Lan Zhan could translate them.
"Hey, Lan Zhan! If I came back as a tiger and you as a grain of dirt, do you think my rotting heart spills dried blood upon you first or after it's ripped out?" Wei Ying asked while curled up in Lan Zhan's arms; his breathing was so slow that Lan Zhan thought him asleep.
"I don't think that would be possible, from a logical standpoint. Perhaps I would be the only grain to stick to you, even after you've become one with me."
His uncle gave him strange looks when he answered Wei Ying without pause.
"Do you think I'd be the first pond you drink from or the last leaf that covers you once our days have shortened?"
"I hope you'll be the last leaf that covers me, just so I can use you until you disintegrate."
Uncle's brow would raise, and he would look back and forth at both of them before sighing helplessly. "When did it go wrong?" He'd whisper to himself. Lan Xichen only smiled.

"Lan Zhan, in our next life, if I came back as a bunny and you a fox, would you protect me like a mate or would you feed me until I'm all fattened up and ready for your starving instincts to take hold of your choice in keeping me alive?"
'I would mark you as mine, lick your wounds and breed with you once the time comes, and harm anyone who tries to take you from me.'
"I would feed you, groom you, care for you, until the day you stop breathing, then I'd eat your carcass."
"My my, Lan Zhan, you must really love me!" Wei Ying laughs, and Lan Zhan could do nothing but kiss him.
