“I told you, m’fine.”
“Really.”
Eraqus stared to the left of Xehanort’s head and nodded confidently. Then he winced and rubbed his temples.
Xehanort rolled his eyes. “You’re concussed.”
“I didn’t even hit my head.”
“I watched you trip and crash into the wall.”
Eraqus scoffed. “Yeah, right. I’m not that clumsy.”
Yeah, there was definitely something wrong with Eraqus’s head. “You’re coming with me,” Xehanort said, wrapping an arm around Eraqus’s shoulders.
Stumbling along beside him, Eraqus asked, “Where?”
“Bed.”
“Your bed?”
“Your bed,” Xehanort said, and he could’ve sworn the whine that left Eraqus’s mouth was in disappointment. “You hate your room that much?”
Eraqus kept walking. And kept walking. Then he squinted at Xehanort. “Did you say something?”
Xehanort tried not to smile or to find it cute. He failed at both. “No.”
“Oh. Okay.” Eraqus leaned against Xehanort’s shoulder as they walked. At one point he started losing his balance and grabbed Xehanort’s waist for support. He didn’t remove his hand. “…Did you say something?”
Thank god his room was close. “Still no.”
“Wanna play chess?”
Now that was tempting, to kick Eraqus’s butt even more than usual. But Eraqus was in pain. Kicking his butt would have to wait.
Xehanort opened Eraqus’s door and led him to the bed. As Eraqus flopped onto it, he pulled Xehanort with him. “Alright, let me up,” Xehanort said. “I have important things to do.”
Eraqus tugged him closer and looked at him with foggy eyes. “More important than me?”
Something fluttered in Xehanort’s chest. He squashed it down. “Obviously.”
“I don’t believe you.”
Xehanort didn’t believe himself either. “If you won’t let me leave, then at least let me get comfortable.”
Eraqus pouted, but he still loosened his grip enough that Xehanort could slide his head onto a pillow. Then he cozied up against him again. “Whyzit hurt s’bad?” Eraqus mumbled into Xehanort’s shoulder.
“Shut up and go to sleep.”
“Not the boss of me,” Eraqus muttered, but his eyes started to close anyway.
Eraqus slept fitfully, tossing and turning and startling himself back awake only to clutch his head and groan. Xehanort laughed and ran his fingers through Eraqus’s hair to calm him down. Plus, maybe it felt a little nice. But only a little. At least Eraqus was probably too loopy to remember it and ask him for an explanation.
And, Xehanort thought as Eraqus started snoring and drooling, at least Xehanort was collecting lots of prime blackmail material.
