Chapter Text
“You taste awfully sweet, dear man.”
“Do I? Oh!” Watson snapped his fingers. “I had some slices of orange for dessert.”
“No need to tell me; I could make out the aroma just fine.”
“Well, forgive me for stating the unnecessary, Holmes. You do not wish to continue?”
“That is not what I said.”
An impish expression appeared on Watson’s face. “Well. Then…?”
In an effort to hide his blush, Holmes scooted away and off the settee. His eyes scanned the dark room. Ah. “Perhaps you might…” With a practiced pour, he filled two glasses with their best brandy. “Here. Please relieve me of the glass, and the sugar.”
“You are aware alcohol contains exceeding amounts of sugar, my old chemist?”
“Tsk.” Holmes shot a glare in his direction that Watson deflected by taking a generous sip of the amber liquid.
Indeed it did not taste sweet. What a nice way to wash away the last traces of citrus from his mouth. “What do you say, Holmes – was that enough?”
“Watson, oh Watson, there is only one way to truly be certain.”
“And that is?” With a smile, Watson leaned forward and took another sip. He sloshed it around in his mouth before swallowing, and presented it proudly as if for inspection.
Holmes certainly inspected it. Thoroughly.
