Work Text:
It’s been a couple years since the Convocation, the trials that are held on Siline to determine who the leader will be. Sitia knew she would win. She also knew that meant she would become the representative of Siline in the Republic Senate now that they’ve joined the Republic.
And she hasn’t forgotten her promise either, that once she finally makes it to Coruscant, she’ll try to find Yord and Jecki.
The padawans were participating in the Convocation as representatives for the Jedi Order but they were her friends. She’s looked forwards to getting to see them again someday, even if she only knew them for a few weeks. She may not have konwn them long but the time spent with them was pretty unforgettable.
But she really wishes that Rhos was here with her. Her little sibling was supposed to be going to university here, at the same time as Sitia was representative. But Rhos never will be, because they’re going to be in hiding for the rest of their life.
Rhos’ childhood friend Lio had been a participant in the Convocation as well. And Lio had ruined the event, interrupting it on purpose for whatever their end gains were. Rhos broke them out of prison before the trial that would have ended in Lio’s death, and they fled.
Sitia may have communicated with Rhos a few times, just enough to know that they’re okay but that doesn’t mean it’s enough. The communications are so few and far between.
She really wishes her little sibling was here too as she goes to find a way to contact their Jedi friends.
Except, the news she gets is the last she’s expecting.
Yord and Jecki are… dead?
They were killed. Of course it’s going to be a risk of the profession for Jedi and Sitia has no doubt that they went out honorably in a fight but that doesn’t change the shock. It doesn’t change that somehow they’re both… dead.
Word of the scandal their deaths were a part of is everywhere but Sitia hadn’t paid it much attention until now.
Sol killed at least a dozen Jedi, and then himself, Yord and Jecki included.
Sitia doesn’t understand.
She never knew Sol personally, only seeing him from a distance but Jecki spoke highly of him. Yord deeply respected him. Jecki was his padawan, the closest a Jedi ever get to having children – apparently. It just… really doesn’t sound like something that Sol would do.
But what does Sitia really know of trust? Her own little sibling’s childhood friend tried to shoot Rhos with an arrow during the Convocation. It doesn’t matter if Lio claimed that the injury wasn’t going to be fatal. It doesn’t change that they did it. They were going to willingly hurt her little sibling.
It also doesn’t change that her little sibling left her forever, to go into hiding with Lio. Not that Sitia could ever be angry at Rhos for anything – she understands it, now that her initial fury at Lio for the betrayal has faded. It would have hurt Rhos far more if Lio had faced the consequences he deserved and she can see that now. She’s glad that her little sibling is probably at least somewhat content out there, wherever they are now… but it doesn’t change what happened.
And apparently, it doesn’t change that some Jedi apparently turned on their own and killed Yord and Jecki.
Only right before Sitia would have had the chance to see them again. She was looking forwards to this, for years. To catching up on everything that had changed with them all this time.
And now, she’s never going to see them again.
Yord had been… very entertaining to irritate. Of course she knew from the start that the feelings she may have had towards Yord were only half serious and that even if they had been serious, it was never anything either of them could have acted on. But still, teasing him non-stop had been well worth the reaction. And either way, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t a good friend, even if a very odd one. He helped her reach the position she has now and even if she could have reached it without help, that doesn’t mean she’s not forever grateful.
And during the incident where the Convocation was interrupted, Yord had stayed behind and defended her after she was injured. He could have gotten himself killed. Jecki could have been killed but Yord had stayed behind to keep Sitia safe, anyway.
But now, he’s dead.
The same as Jecki. The little Jedi had spent far more time with Rhos than around Sitia, but that doesn’t mean she hadn’t found Jecki rather… cute. Honestly. She still remembers her eagerness for the challenge and for learning all about their culture – as a major contrast to Yord who was so stiff about everything. Jecki had been so happy to learn how to use their weapons, too. That’s part of why Sitia and Rhos had given her their traditional planetary weapon as a final parting gift.
Most of all, Jecki was the one who saved Rhos when Lio had tried to hurt them. That’s something Sitia will forever owe her for, too.
And now Jecki is gone and the weapon Sitia gave her as a gift will lie forever untouched… wherever Jedi keep the possessions of their fallen members.
Did Yord and Jecki look forwards to this meeting again as much as Sitia so often did?
She has to find a way to tell Rhos the news, that they’re never going to see their friends again.
