Work Text:
" Simon, wait. "
As Simon turned to leave, Medkit firmly held his wrist as Simon stopped in his tracks.
" I...I'm afraid to say this, but... "
He paused, his eyes drifting to Simon's eyes, locking eye contact with him.
" Before you go, I want to say something as my final farewell. "
" I love you, Simon. I truly do. Was everything I did for you not enough? You know I loved you for YEARS—and you chose to ignore those efforts. "
Simon concluded eye contact and looked away, eyes drifting to the floor in guilt. He didn't know how to respond, he felt guilty. He let Medkit speak again, trying to think of an appropriate response to this conversation.
" Simon, answer me. Am I...just too much? Do I have to be like Betty? What do you truly want..? "
Simon felt even more guilty. He tensed up, before finally taking a deep breath. He initiated eye contact with Medkit once again, before finally spilling out the bittersweet but honest truth.
" Medkit...I... listen, Medkit. I love you for who you are, and I accept for who you are. You've done so much for me, and I'm grateful for that. It's just that...I love Betty more. "
Medkit froze, and his firm grip on Simon's wrist gradually loosened. He waited for another response from Simon.
" I guess... "
" It's a little icky to kiss men. "
Medkit tensed up, his eyes slowly becoming glossy. He rapidly blinked to hide his tears, but he knew that there was no denying the truth.
" And also, Betty is waiting for me. "
He turned his head away from Medkit, looking away. He faced the wooden door, his hand firmly resting on the doorknob. He continued.
" ...Let's just stay friends, Medkit. "
Whatever makes you happy...
