[Chuuya's POV]
the night air was cold, and damp against Chuuya's skin, but it was only a frail reminder of what 7 years of "acquaintanceship" had brought him, all those long-haul missions that took them until dawn to complete, which resulted in Chuuya dragging a half conscious Dazai back to his apartment so they could both sleep. curled up against each other to seek refuge from the harsh coldness.
at times the memories felt as bright and precious as when Chuuya first found his place in the mafia, but now... they pained him to even remember, his mind was begging him to forget them, so he wouldn't feel the betrayal, the hurt, the pain all over again.
and the wine helped.
helped ease him when it all felt too much.
which was a similar case tonight, Chuuya remembered the night Dazai left, how heartbroken he was, like a piece of his heart was ripped out when he left, and that no matter how hard he tried he couldn't get it back.
.
.
.
Sunlight filtered in through the curtains and landed on Chuuya's face early next morning, with an alarm so loud it could give someone permanent hearing loss. which didn't help the headache he had from yesterday.
"Ah fuck, it's too early" came a mumbling from under the expanse of Chuuya's blanket but knowing how early he had to be at the headquarters today he reluctantly got up.
the blanket was yanked off and out came Chuuya with his hair tangled and attitude worse after remembering last night's vendetta. "ugh, it's no use remembering that bastard" Chuuya thought and made his way towards the kitchen to cook himself a sufficient breakfast.
his meal consisted of two pieces of bread with a poached egg to match topped with fresh basil from his plant that he refuses to let die. afterwards he headed to his bedroom to get changed into his signature outfit and brush his teeth.
after ensuring he looked presentable enough Chuuya stepped through the door and headed to his motorcycle to get to work.
after arriving he headed straight to the boss's office after Kouyou told him to get there as soon as he could, judging from her tone it would be something troublesome, but who was he to refuse.
Knock, knock, knock
Chuuya knocked three times before he waited for a reply to enter, after hearing Mori's signature "come in" he pushed the doors open to reveal the Mori sitting at his desk, and Elise on the floor drawing something.
"I heard you called for me boss?" Mori only smiled at his words before taking a document from the side of his desk. "yes, chuuya-kun, I need you to deliver something for me" Chuuya gaped at his words, deliver? he was an executive and the boss wanted him to do small menial tasks. "I know that face Chuuya-kun, but worry not, this letter is very important, and I trust you will deliver it in impeccable shape"
Chuuya gleamed a bit at those words before replying "I understand boss, just tell me where and I'll deliver it" mori looked pleased after hearing this and slid the envelope across the desk as a sign for Chuuya to take it.
"Excellent, I need you to deliver this to the Armed detective agency and give it to Fukuzawa" Chuuya stilled at those words, hand frozen midway while reaching for the envelope.
"The detective agency? why there?" his anger only slightly covering his shocked tone.
"I plan to form a temporary alliance, with how well equipped they are doesn't it only make sense" Chuuya fumbled before remembering his words "right, my apologies boss"
"Good, good, and while you're there make sure you get Fukuzawa to write me a rep-" "Rintarou!, you said you would take me to the bakery today! so why am I still stuck here" Elise butted into the conversation determination filling her eyes, "ah my apologies we'll go right away, Chuuya you're dismissed"
Chuuya could only stare and wonder how this man was his boss before replying with a short nod of understanding.
Outside of Headquarters Chuuya hesitated before getting onto his bike, not out of fear, but out of anger, because he knew there was a high chance of a certain mackerel being there. and he wasn't sure how he could control his anger if he saw him.
but he bottled it up, and delt with it, because that's how it's always been.
.
.
After arriving in front of the agency Chuuya mentally prepared himself as well as taking a deep breath before walking into the building, once he made it up to the front door he knocked his signature 3 times.
Knock, knock, knock
But before anyone came to open the door or greet him, he stepped inside, what he saw was a few shocked faces and a white-haired teenager- Atsushi he thinks- in a battle stance.
Chuuya quickly scanned the room for a certain mackerel and after confirming that he was most likely out somewhere, walked forward before a tall blonde man stepped in his way
"What is a port mafia executive doing here exactly, here to cause trouble?" the man said in a serious tone, he was about to talk again before someone else stopped him, "woah, slow down Kunikida, I bet he's here to talk to Fukuzawa" Ranpo interrupted, "After all my genius is never wrong"
"That's correct" another voice came from a doorway, making all heads turn to face him, Fukuzawa continued "Let's talk in my office" he said in a strong tone while maintaining eye contact with Chuuya, from the looks of it Kunikida was about to interrupt again before Chuuya beat him too it, "No need, all I'm here for is to deliver this and get a reply, simple as that" Chuuya walked towards Fukuzawa and pulled out the envelope from his jacket pocket and handed it to the man.
"After I get my reply, I'll be straight on my way" Fukuzawa slowly nodded in acknowledgement before tearing the letter open to read its contents, after what looked like him briefly skimming the letter he lifted his head to look at Chuuya. "I'll tell you what I want you to tell your boss"
Chuuya only looked on before the leader continued. "Tell him, we'll discuss this matter at a later date, and to come in person next time for such a topic" after confirming that was all to be said Chuuya turned to leave, but of course not everything can go the way he wants it to, because as soon as he turned around that stupid mackerel walked in through the door.
Chuuya stopped in his tracks, looking at that bastard's face, trying not to give in and punch the waste of bandages. so instead he looked for a way out, maybe smash the windows? no. punch him and run for it? can't do that either, Chuuya was mulling over more escape routes before a voice filled the room.
"Ohh is that Chuuya-kun? it's been so long since I last saw you, still as short as ever though!" it was an obvious jab at him to get him to react, but in that moment this still, calm feeling washed over Chuuya, rendering his emotions ice cold, and with his head low he passed Dazai while saying. "I won't forgive you, ever, so don't expect to me to feign ignorance"
that was all he said before walking out the door, down the stairs and onto his motorcycle.
