Work Text:

Everyone at MXTX University knows that Mu Qing and Feng Xin are rivals, in well, everything. Academics, sports, clubs, homework, even just who can get to campus faster! They’re rivals through and through…right?

1
‘They’re arguing again?’
Shi Qingxuan’s eyes flickered over to where Mu Qing and Feng Xin were yelling profanities at each other.
‘You’d think they’d sit apart from the amount of times they’ve pronounced their hatred for each other no?’
He Xuan scoffed, pulling out a chair so she could sit next to him, which she took gratefully.
‘Just leave them alone, maybe it’s just their thing…’
‘You always think too positive Gege, they’re too loud and annoying in my opinion.’
Hua Cheng entered the hall, shoving He Xuan to the side for good measure, before sitting down and clinging to Xie Lian, playing up and innocent act when He Xuan got mad.
‘I didn’t even shove him Gege! I just don’t think that stinky fish can take a ‘playful shove’ from me.’
‘YOU!-‘
Xie Lian had to intervene yet again.
‘Stop it San Lang, it’s not good to fight before a class, it makes you unfocused.’
Before Hua Cheng could even get a ‘sorry’ in, Feng Xin and Mu Qing (yes I finally remembered them) started to get physical at the back of the study hall.

‘Get off me idiot!’
Mu Qing yelled as he fought back Feng Xin’s attempt to practically strangle him against the wall, by using his foot to hold him back to keep some distance. However that just instigated Feng Xin to press harder.

‘Should we uh-…’
Shi Qingxuan started, before he felt someone pry him off of He Xuan.
‘No.’
Shi Wudu interrupted to both his sister’s clinginess to He Xuan, and to Mu Qing and Feng Xin’s attempt at trying to literally kill each other. He Xuan didn’t look very happy to see him, but he supposed the feeling was mutual.
‘Ge! I was just uhh….’
Shi Qingxuan began to explain but she trailed off when Shi Wudu drew up a chair in between the two conveniently also elbowing He Xuan in the side.
‘This still isn’t an ideal situation-‘
Xie Lian snapped them out of their little moment.
‘Oh right.’

‘FUCK OFF FENG XIN I HATE YOU GET OFF OF ME!’
‘NOT UNTIL YOU TURN BLUE BITCH!’

‘Okay… let’s change that to very not ideal.’
Xie Lian laughed awkwardly, taking back his words from before and Shi Qingxuan suddenly got a mischievous glint in her eyes.
‘Oh oh! What if this is like an enemies to lovers kinda thing and-‘
SMACK
‘Ouch! Ge!- Why did you hit me!!?’
‘You’re being delusional again.’
‘Me!? Delusional!? Ge, you’re being mean, let me believe what I want!’

At the back of the hall, while Mu Qing and Feng Xin were still at it, another student came in, obviously disassociated with their surroundings having their headphones on, accidentally bumped into Feng Xin, making the dynamic duo crash into each other, which was not missed by Shi Qingxuan.
‘Ouch- A-Xuan why are you hitting me!?-‘
Shi Wudu trailed off before his eyes unfortunately landed on Feng Xin’s lips on Mu Qing’s without any context.
‘Are- are we all seeing this?’
‘Mhm…’
‘See my enemies to lovers theory was right!’

But before Shi Wudu could complain about Shi Qingxuan being delusional for the nth time, Mu Qing shoved Feng Xin backwards with an obvious blush on his face before running out of the hall, slamming the door on his way out. Feng Xin’s ears turned red and looked dazed, before running out after Mu Qing too.

Shi Qingxuan grabbed her brother’s arm, looking giddy.
‘I told you!! What did I say!?’

‘Oooh~ someone doesn’t look happy~’
Pei Ming taunted Feng Xin while walking back to the dorms after classes ended. Feng Xin didn’t even know why he was coming with him, they don’t even share the same room.
‘Get lost.’
‘Oh come on, why the long face buddy?’
‘…’
‘Radio silence huh? Okay then, I’ll play the guessing game, is it…about homework?’
‘…’
‘Nope, okay… oh! I know! It’s no doubt about Mu Qing!’
‘….Fuck off.’
‘IT IS! Oooh bud, is it because of that girl in his Chemistry class? They seem like they’re getting awfully close huh? Oh, oh! Look over there!’

It was Mu Qing and the girl Pei Ming mentioned a few seconds ago.
‘I really like you, Mu Qing!’
The girl pushed a love letter in front of the other, with a blush on her face, while Mu Qing looked visibly uncomfortable.

Feng Xin apparently did not like this, and proceeded to stomp over to the two and pull Mu Qing away in to the dorm building, leaving Pei Ming and the girl behind. Of course Mu Qing didn’t go down without a fight either and was yelling back at him.

Pei Ming scoffed at the sight of Feng Xin dragging his crush? Lover? Rival? Away. And if the door to the lobby wasn’t an automatic sliding door, Feng Xin probably would’ve slammed it behind him.
‘Damn, could he be anymore obvious?’

‘Mu Qing, hey, wanna come to Pei Ming’s party on Saturday?’
Mu Qing was startled when Shi Qingxuan practically jumped up on his shoulders, followed closely by Xie Lian.
‘…You’re on board with this?’
Mu Qing raised an eyebrow at Xie Lian’s somewhat acceptance of a house party- was it even a house party? Pei Ming seems to always have the most random locations for this stuff.
‘Well…’
Shi Qingxuan laughed swinging her other arm over Xie Lian, talking over him so he wouldn’t get off track too much.
‘Come on, what do you say?’
‘I don’t attend parties, especially not Pei Ming’s shit, you know that.’
‘Feng Xin’s going.’
‘….’
Mu Qing thought about it for a second. If he accepted too fast would it make him sound like a simp? Maybe.
‘Fine.’
‘Perfect! I’ll send ya the details later, kay? Bye!~’

And with that Shi Qingxuan pulled Xie Lian away with him, leaving Mu Qing alone again.
‘Wait- but Feng Xin isn’t going-‘
‘Shhh trust me, your highness.’
‘I told you to stop calling me that.’
‘Nope!’

Xie Lian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He had no idea why his classmates like calling him that, just because he’s student council president doesn’t mean-
‘Oh this is perfect! FENG XIN!’
Xie Lian’s thoughts were cut off when he heard Shi Qingxuan yell. Feng Xin was just minding his own business when he heard this aggravating voice interrupting his day.
‘What the fuck do you what!?’
He groaned as Shi Qingxuan ran up to him with a big smile.
‘Come to Pei Ming’s party on-‘
‘No.’
‘Wait but-‘
‘No.’
‘JUST HEAR ME OUT!!’
‘What then, make it quick as well, I have better things to do right now.’
‘Right, I doubt that, BUT back to my point, Mu Qing’s coming so yeah. Come- or don’t!’
And then she ran off. It seems to just be a habit of being mysterious at this point.

Xie Lian watched as his friend came back from talking yo Feng Xin.
‘What did you do?…’
She giggled. Not really a good sign you know?
‘Nothing!~

(Continuation of 3)

‘I’ve decided on something! We’re doing 7 minutes in heaven.’
Pei Ming declared after jumping up on top of a table. Honestly the vibes were just so dead, maybe the only thing interesting was the foreseeable fight that was brewing between Hua Cheng, He Xuan, Shi Wudu and Qi Rong. Actually, nobody invited Qi Rong… he just showed up.

Everyone kinda stopped and just stared at Pei Ming.
‘We’re not fucking doing tha-‘

Yes they were.
They all ended up sitting in a circle like they were back in Kindergarten or something. Pei Ming ended up writing everyone’s names and putting it in a bowl.

First names out: Xie Lian and Hua Cheng. Expected. Hua Cheng probably rigged it somehow just to just his way too, but nobody really cared. And definitely no one was surprised when they came out of that stupid closet looking like they did more than just talk.

Then Shi Qingxuan and He Xuan’s names got pulled out and before Shi Wudu could even protest, Qingxuan pulled He Xuan in the closet with her. They probably were just talking out their feelings though, since Shi Wudu was adamant about sitting next to the closet. Definitely not eavesdropping.

Finally, Feng Xin and Mu Qing’s names got pulled out, which was definitely one of the most anticipated duo out of the whole night.
‘YES!- Uh I mean- go on~’
Smiled Shi Qingxuan.
‘Tch. Fuck off, all of you.’
And Feng Xin pulled Mu Qing with him.

As soon as the door closed, the top Fengqing shippers pressed themselves against the door.
‘Shit I can’t hear anything!’
‘Shut the fuck up Pei Ming!’

‘….’
7 minutes later. Nothing. They looked like they just ignored each other for the whole time! How disappointing! Even after Pei Ming went through the trouble of trying to hide the fact he rigged the whole game so he could put whoever he wanted together-

Mu Qing, Hua Cheng, Feng Xin and He Xuan were studying for their history project they were all thrown in a group with together. But nobody actually seemed to be doing anything productive, because why would they?

‘Remind me why I took History again?’
He Xuan sighed, dropping his pen on the desk as Hua Cheng scoffed at him. It wasn’t a great thing either that they were sat next to each other too.
‘Maybe because you’re stupid.’
‘You-‘
‘We’re all in the same boat so shut up and give me an idea on how to format the powerpoint.’
Mu Qing cut in, annoyed and was most likely on his wits end.

~An hour later~
‘I’m ordering food.’
Hua Cheng announced suddenly.
‘Why do you do this? Is it because you hate us?’
Mu Qing looked up, annoyed again.
‘What?’
‘You’re breaking my fucking work flow! Fuck off!’
‘Damn fine. I’ll just order like a share bucket from KFC or something…’

30 minutes later, Hua Cheng came back with the food and distributed the boxes equally. He actually just ended up going to a nearby convenience store for those pre-made bento boxes since he did actually have a brain and having greasy fingers while reading textbooks and typing on his laptops would bother them all.

Feng Xin put one of his eggs in his box into Mu Qing’s.
‘Hey, leave it for ten minutes, don’t fucking starve to death. Not that I would care though.’
Mu Qing gave him a slight glance and sighed, closing his laptop finally and picking up a mix of chicken and rice, getting some on his face by accident, in which Feng Xin brushed it off for him almost lovingly?

‘Ew what is this PDA, I thought that without Xie Lian here with the crimson idiot I could be free, but no!’
He Xuan crossed his arms and leaned back into his chair making a disgusted look on his face. This obviously made the duo defensive and start hurling insults at He Xuan first, before turning it on each other. Again.

‘Great, look what you started again.’
Hua Cheng mocked, though his voice was getting a little drowned out by the yelling.
‘Shut up, I didn’t mean to.’

‘Knock knock! Feng Xin, you awake? Ling Wen wanted me to pass on a message!~’
Shi Qingxuan knocked on Feng Xin’s dorm room door. Just as she was going to knock again, she heard some faint sounds of rustling behind the door and ten seconds later, the door flung open, where a flustered Feng Xin stood, annoyed.

‘Well? What is it?’
‘Uh… you okay buddy?’
Shi Qingxuan tilted her head, trying to see inside.
‘I’m fine! What do you want on a damn Saturday morning!?’
‘Oh right, Ling Wen said she needs her physics textbook back.’
‘Are you joking?- ugh fine.’

As Feng Xin turned to go get the textbook, Shi Qingxuan was looking in Feng Xin’s dorm. As far as she knew, Feng Xin lived alone… so two pairs of shoes at the front door was more than suspicious. And then his eyes raked over the rest of the room. Wait- is that Mu Qing’s jacket? Shi Qingxuan grew the biggest smirk on her face.
‘Feng Xin, is Mu Qing in there?’
Feng Xin almost choked and died on air.
‘No? Why the fuck would you think that?’
‘You’re not slick, I can see his jacket and shoes, MU QING! I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE COME OUT!!’
‘SHUT UP QINGXUAN!-‘
He just shoved the book into her hands and slammed the door at her face while Shi Qingxuan was cackling.
‘I KNEW IT! I WAS RIGHT! PEI MING OWES ME ¥150 (£15.00)!’
