When the Moon Meets the Tide

Summary:
Sonic and Shadow set out to find each other after the Eclipse Canon. And when they do, Sonic, in his typical fashion, does everything he can to help Shadow adjust to his newfound freedom and show him the best parts of humanity and Earth that Shadow never got to know during his life from before.
Shadow gets to know Sonic over time and sees he had the blue hedgehog all wrong when they first met. He tries to keep a respectful distance from him and the family he almost tore apart, but Sonic's insistence on becoming his friend and Shadow's gratitude towards him for helping him fix his mistake has Shadow feeling he owes him too much not to indulge his very eager counterpart.
It's definitely not anything else that's keeping Shadow in Green Hills and around Sonic the Hedgehog.

Started writing this June 2025, thought I’d start posting it end of October last year but, hey Valentine’s Day/weekend 2026 works just as well, right?

I’ve been in the fandom for right around a year now and still haven’t anything outside of the movies, Prime and Boom, so my knowledge of the franchise is limited to that more officially. I’ve read so many gay hog fics I’ve found out plenty more from those too but hopefully everything regarding lore makes sense

This first chapter felt like a lot and probably was a little rushed exposition wise but the word count was getting WAY too long for what I wanted as this first chapter. Hopefully it all makes sense. With the limited POV’s the timing for both hedgehogs right after the canon probably wasn’t clear but the entire span of time Shadow’s passed out in the field for weeks, then wakes up and finds the shed and stays there several more weeks until deciding to find Sonic covers up until present day with the Wachowski boys meditating. Idk what it is but I didn’t want to skip over Shadow’s journey from after the eclipse explosion till making his way to Sonic
