Fail Dancing and Fond Memories

Summary:

Blake and Yang take some time to chat during their night off with Team FNKI.

Notes:

Work Text:

All things considered, there are worse ways to spend an evening than at a dance club with annoying people. Team FNKI are perfectly nice, but they're a lot to contend with even in small doses, even if by now Blake's grown used to the social aspect of training and being a Huntress.

But even if she wasn't, Yang is here, and that's all the reason she needs to be.

They haven't had much time together since arriving in Atlas, everything happened so fast. The Ace-Ops, meeting with General Ironwood, the conference, the plans for Amity Tower, and of course the nonstop training. Even after they've finally been given their official Huntress licenses, it's not slowing down - scratch that, getting their licenses has only made things move faster. If General Ironwood hadn't given them the night off, she can imagine Penny would have begged him to.

They're taking a break from all that dancing, and the best part is they don't need to be good at it. No one cares, there's even a special name for it - "fail dancing". But even that takes effort and right now Blake just wants to relax with her drink.

"Remember the last time we danced together?" Yang asks, pulling her out of her thoughts. Blake smiles.

"The Beacon Ball. I was such a mess back then, acting like beating Torchwick was the most important thing ever and losing sleep over it." If only he'd been the worst of their problems. "You're the one who snapped me out of it."

"You're welcome," Yang teases. "That was a fun night, though. Who could forget good old Vomit Boy showing up in a dress?" Blake giggles.

"Honestly, that dress just didn't look right on him. Maybe something with a little more color, some accessories, sleeves." Still, even without the context, the whole school knew he'd done it for Pyrrha. Even Team CFVY, the Kings and Queens of Cool, had gone on record saying that was the coolest thing they'd ever seen anyone do.

"That's one nice thing about being here. I got to dance with you again," Yang says. "You think Atlas will have a ball at some point? Not that I'm into fancy parties, but..." She blushes. "Or we could skip the dancing and see a movie."

"Oh go for a ride on..." Blake trails off. "Right, sorry."

"RIP, Bumblebee," Yang sighs. Blake wishes she could say that was the real reason she broke down crying after that battle, but they both know better. "How about next time we get the day off we go shopping and build Bumblebee 2.0?" Blake's cheeks flush.

"I'm not great with machinery."

"You can help with the paint," Yang says. "Unless we find one that's already perfect."

"Deal." Blake smiles again, her hand just inches from Yang's prosthetic one. "I'm glad we're here. Even if the dancing is terrible and the music isn't my type." Yang grins, taking Blake's hand.

"Want to dance again?"

"Sure!"

Maybe someday they'll come back here by themselves while Team FNKI are on a mission.
