Late Night Training

Summary:

(I never write them romantically, take that as a blessing.)

Samus decided she didn't want to stop her training and purposely woke Adam up to resume her tutoring.

Notes:

Platonic shipping my beloved 💕

Oh, Samus doesn't call him by his first name until later, I'll let y'all know when :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Sir... Sir wake up..." Samus was lightly shaking Adam awake, she didn't want to raise her voice any higher than she had in fear she'd draw unwanted attention. "Commander, I wanna train... Please wake up."

Eventuality, after all the shaking she did, he woke up. He wasn't too happy about getting woken up but he let it slide this time, it probably was something important after all. "What...? What do you need Samus?" His vocal fry was crazy, he was just shouting yesterday at his brother for misconduct and the training from yesterday must've hurt his voice... "I want to train, with you. I know it's late but I still have quite a lot of energy and I still really want to learn so-" Adam put his hand over her mouth, effectively cutting her sentence off. He let out a sigh and tried to get up, he was not very happy about this but he really didn't care.
"Come on then... I'll get myself properly dressed up for it, but I'm only doing it for an hour before I go back to sleep." He began to put on his coat, knowing it'll probably be cold outside given how dark it was. Samus was quite excited but she refused to let such vulnerability show, she then turned around and left the room quietly before making her way over to the training court. Adam slowly followed behind her as she basically led the way for him, it sucked though that they were going on foot...

Samus took off her jacket, risking the cold, and tossed it to the side before turning to Adam as if expecting him to do the same. He didn't take off his coat but instead removed his hat and tossed it in a similar safe spot so it wouldn't get damaged by any tussle that may occur. He then cracked the bones in his body before standing in the correct position, he stared Samus down while she attempted the same, her fingers didn't crack and hurt instead.
"I assume we'll start from where we left off last time? The CQC training, I mean..." Samus tried to speak to Adam regularly, she struggled a little, probably because of the paranoia from being in such a remote location at nighttime of all things... "If I recall, you were teaching me how to disarm and utilize a weapon against an up close enemy?" She warily asked even though she knows she doesn't need to be so worried, but she can't help it.
Adam nodded to her question and tossed her a small wooden stick, the same one he substituted a combat knife for. "You should practice your swings first, I'll teach you how to stab properly but for now, try and swing at me." He knows that she can't really bring herself to willingly hurt him, but for training it was inevitable. She tried aiming specifically for his chest despite of his swift evasions, one of the swings hit but it was only the upper shoulder and nothing significant...

She got tired very quickly from all the stick swinging, Adam was a hard target but that made him quite the best to learn from. "You suck, can you stop dodging so much? It's not fair..." She complained a little, bordering on a whine going by her exertion. "It sounds like you're giving up." He then walked over to her and fixed her posture, he never liked it when she slouched even if it had a reason. Samus took advantage of this and cracked him across the face with the stick, it hurt like hell but it did catch Adam by surprise, he couldn't help but applaud her for that one.
"I suppose I must've underestimated you there, you got me good Samus. But don't rely on that too much, it won't always work." Of course he'd say something like that, Samus hated it whenever he did... She couldn't deny that he was right though. She couldn't always rely on the element of surprise to carry her.

"I would, however, lower that strike. The blow you dealt is more meant for the next and not my nose." He tsked a little and took the stick from her before gently demonstrating where the slice was to go, the polished wood of the stick felt weird against her neck but it gave her a slightly better understanding. Of what she's supposed to do. "Your other strikes missed because you were aiming too high as well, I was only able to dodge them because you were aiming for my face." He then put the stick back in her hand and guided it to show exactly where she should be aiming before backing up and letting her try again.
Samus reattempted to practice her swings and was actually able to make contact a few more times, Adam still avoided most of it though. "I assume stabs are also in the same regions?" She couldn't help but ask, she didn't wait for Adam to respond before jabbing him in his hip with the stick. He somehow wasn't mad about that either, it made Samus a little curious on where his limits are.

"Yes, stabs are in similar spots, though I wouldn't be stabbing at the neck region front the front. You'd go for the head in the front, the neck is better to hit from the sides or back." He finished his sentence before picking up another stick, it was similar to the one Samus had. "I'll teach you how to block, unless you intend on learning how to disarm your opponent first? It's up to you."
She thought about it pretty hard before deciding she wanted to learn how to block, whatever Adam will teach her might not always apply to whatever she may fight in the future but it was still good to know how anyway.

About a solid hour passes of training and eventually Samus fell to the ground, she was absolutely exhausted... and maybe a little hungry. "May we take a break sir? I'm very tired, I assume you are too?" She carefully asked her questions, she didn't want to accidentally strike something that might change how they interact all together. "Yeah, we can take a break. I'll help patch you up, I noticed that you got beaten pretty good..." He walked over to her and sat down next to her, he pulls out a small pocket sized first aid kit and began to patch her up. He was pretty beaten up himself considering how hard Samus had struck him, she felt guilty for it but knew he would never hold I against her.
"There, any cuts and splinters have been dealt with, I applied some pain relievant to all bruise spots." He then took off his coat and began doing the same to himself, he leaned back a little further than Samus mainly to use the pain relief chemical on where she jabbed him with the stick. He notably winced each time but pulled through, even giving Samus a smile which was always rare.

"Are you sure you'll be okay sir? I hit you pretty hard... I'm sorry about that..." She tucked her knees in and looked away guilty, she really did feel awful about having hit him so hard during training. "Don't fret about it Samus, I'll be fine. I'm more worried about the damage you sustained, I should be the one apologizing for that." He rubbed the back of his neck feeling a similar amount of guilt which only showed through his body language, Samus picked up on the same habit to appear stronger. "I'll be fine, by the time we heal up, we should go grab some food if the galley still does midnight snacks. Does that sound good?" She gave him an expectant look, hoping he'd accompany her there. He gave a nod and quipped lightly that maybe they could get something sweet this time if they're lucky.
The two just sat there as they waited patiently for the medicine to do it's job, they didn't know how long it would take though. Samus couldn't help but look up at the sky and start talking about the constellations that she could see, even pointing at some that are the most visible. Adam happened to look up at just the right time to notice a shooting star, he nudged Samus to get her attention hoping that maybe she knew the weird tradition regarding wishing stars. "Samus, a shooting star passed by. You know what that means?" He hoped she did, even if she didn't then he would've been happy to teach her. She looked up shortly before another one passed, she got excited and made a wish...

"What did you wish for?" Adam leaned to make proper eye contact with her, he was expecting her to say something realistically impossible in some way. "I wished that galactic peace will come some day. I know it won't but, a girl could dream."
Adam was left a little stunned by Samus' words, he didn't expect something like that to come from her, but he didn't mind it. He patted her back and gave a small laugh as reassurance, and to rebalance himself. "I hope for that too Samus, maybe someday it'll come..." He looked away and bit his lip a little, he held onto this hope like it was the only thing keeping him alive.

"Yeah, someday."

Last bit of "" is said by Adam as a confirmation.
