1 "Since when do you smoke?"
Evan didn't bother throwing the cigarette away, if she noticed then she noticed. He shrugged in response before taking a drag and breathing out somewhat dramatically, ready for another round of 'smoking is unhealthy and bad!'
Hen huffed in annoyance, of course he wants to be petty. She grabbed the butt of said cigarette off him and threw it on the ground, making sure to look him in the eyes when she stomped on it.
"What the fuck, Buck."
He was getting pissed with this nonsense, he's a grown up, smoking isn't illegal or even that horrible. He inhales smoke regardless almost daily so what difference does it make?
"Since forever, thanks for that," he thanked her, nodding his head towards the stomped trash laying between them, for throwing away over half of one, that's a waste.
"Seriously? Does Maddie know?" That's funny, he's very much allowed to smoke, thanks Hen. She's not actually his mother. He just scoffed.
"Yeah, who do you think used to buy me packs when I wasn't old enough?" Now that did make Hen pause, considering how weird this whole thing was. Just a few minutes ago he was just Buck, the guy who cares so much about health and fitness stuff, even skincare and smelling good all the time, now he's suddenly a smoker? Has been for years, apparently. The more you know.
"Jesus, Buck, those things will kill you." That's the last of this conversation, she turns back around to the parking lot, leaving him alone after the rather-hard shift they had.

Eddie comes over to Buck loft, he's running a few minutes early since there actually was no queue at the grocery store when he was getting a few beers. He let himself in and then announced his attendance.
"Hey I'm here, got the good stuff," he set the plastic bag with the alcohol onto a counter, before looking for Buck, who wasn't in his sight and he couldn't hear him anywhere yet.
It didn't take more than 12 seconds to see him on his balcony, very obviously blowing smoke out his mouth, not a care in the world. He joined him, not saying anything.
Buck peered up at him, nodding as a greeting, as Eddie sat next to him with his arm stretched out. Buck laughed. He handed him the cigarette he was just smoking, looking at Eddie putting it in his mouth and taking a drag. He didn't take him for a smoker, but he supposed he wouldn't know if he didn't know about him either. Huh.
"You smoke? Wow, army," Buck huffed out yet another laugh.
"Not really, just occasionally." They shared the cigarette in silence just looking over the part of the city that they could see. After, Buck put it out and they sat in the living room, each with a beer in their hand and just chatting like usual.

Okay, Buck truly didn't want anyone else to know. He didn't want people to think he's gross, or lecture him about lung issues. Right now though, he desperately needed a cigarette.
They just lost a kid on a call, it was all around rough on everyone. He stepped onto the firehouse roof to quickly inhale a bit before he hits the showers. As he's smoking, he knows someone came onto the roof.
"That's not very healthy," oh, it's Bobby. Now he may or may not get the lecture of a lifetime, kick him off this roof now, please.
"Yeah, yeah I know, just need to take the edge off," He didn't look at him, not even in his general direction. He heard his captain come closer to him. He, unlike Hen, didn't take it out off his hands quickly. He just plucked it gently out of his mouth mid inhale, before throwing it off the roof.
"Really?" Buck exclaimed, annoyed.
"Been down this road, kid. Not a pleasant one, quit it," and that was that. They stood in silence for a few moments, before Bobby put a hand on his shoulder. He squeezed him lightly, before heading back down.

"After all these years, you haven't stopped?" Now Maddie. Awesome!
"Needed something destructive to do," he said in a joking manner. He could physically hear his sister roll her eyes. She, too, snatched the cigarette out his mouth, but to smoke with him.
"You too?"
"No, I quit awhile ago, just pick back up on it every now and then," he remember how she used to smoke so much that as an 8 year old he was very concerned.
Now they both smoke, Buckley siblings really are similar to each other. They passed the cigarette back and forth, putting it out when it was done, before Buck lit another one for them to share yet again. Just like old times.
He remembers being a teenager and just handing his sister the few dollars he had so she could pop into any store to buy packs for him, so this is probably payback. The sibling smoked quietly, thinking over their own lives.

"Buck, you smell like a cigarette!" Oh no, this is worse.
"Sorry kid, didn't want to smell bad when hanging out with you," he wouldn't have smoked or he would've brushed his teeth if he knew Chris was coming over with Eddie.
"Why do you smoke?" The kid asked curiously, wondering why his hero would be this unhealthy.
"A very bad habit I picked up on awhile ago, don't ever do it." He popped a piece of chewing gum into his mouth, then washing his hands to get ready to make dinner for the three of them.
"Can I have one? I won't tell dad, promise," he sounded so cute, but the answer is obvious.
"Absolutely not, never." Chris pouted but helped out with chopping vegetables instead of continuing this conversation, instead talking about the kids school.
Of course, the kid is curious, and doesn't have much of a filter, much like Buck between ages 3 and 26.
"How old were you?" He knew what he meant.
"When what?"
"When you started cigarettes!" That made Buck mentally laugh.
"I was young, maybe twelve."
"That's so young!"

During the Grant-Nash family barbecue they had routinely, Buck snuck out of the house. He needed a quick smoke, the conversations were getting out of hand. Before he even lit up anything, he heard someone joining him.
"Mind if I butt one off you?" He was actually really surprised to see Chim.
"Sure," He handed the pack and lighter in one hand after lighting his own. Chimney very quickly pulled a cigarette out for himself, lit it up in seconds, very obviously used to it, handing the items back to Buck.
They smoked quietly, peacefully. After a few calm minutes, Chim started to talk, only it's not what Buck was expecting.
"You know, this is why they called me Chimney."
Holy shit.
