Chapter Text
Sadewa's last chat still hasn't been replied to, and there are also no signs of the two arrows there turning blue soon, so Sadewa just decided to stop waiting any longer and just going to meet with the person behind this chatroom instead, who you asked? Who else?
It was Nakula Nalendra, of course.
The twin brother of his.
A little bit of annoyance and massive worry overrun Sadewa’s mind. Since when Nakula didn’t answer the message? It has been since yesterday, well, maybe technically, since last evening.
Not 24 hours even passed and Nakula is a grown up man, yes, Sadewa is fully aware, but when you’ve been with Nakula for 27 years plus 9 month if you count the time they’re hanging around in their mother womb, then you might as well know each other habit at the back of your mind.
This means, Sadewa knows the implication, It was between Nakula drowning in his work again, emphasis on again, or something happened, and surely Sadewa hoped it was at least the former.
Nakula is ever a late replier, but they’ve been grown accustomed to update to each other every night, even if it’s just a mere emoticon, although mostly it was Nakula who sometimes forgot to do their so-called catch up and ends up with Sadewa ringing his phone for just a few second talk before the call get hanged up, it doensn’t matter, they just need to make sure each other was still there.
So when Nakula didn’t answer his message nor he picked up Sadewa calls, he knew something was wrong and he couldn't wait any longer, the breach of their routine was enough to make Sadewa drive out first thing in the morning to Nakula’s apartment.
They lived together, most of time, but Nakula is also have an apartment on his own, somewhere that nearer to the place where he works, considering the nature of Nakula’s job that made him need to take hours of overtime and went back often past midnight, Nakula decided to just rent an apartment around that place so he didn’t need to drive long to simply sleep and wake up not more that 5 hours later.
Sadewa went up to Nakula's apartment unit, in long, measured strides. He went with a sense of urgency but still maintaining his ever calm composure, he didn't bother to knock or ring a bell but instead he smashed in Nakula’s apartment code, something that he had already memorized and done several times already.
When Sadewa entered, he was greeted by a dark room. He wondered if Nakula hadn't gone home yet or if the younger one just didn't bother to light it up. Sadewa entered with caution and his eyes immediately scanned his surroundings, the apartment was quiet and nothing was amiss but so did the sight of Nakula.
His feet then went to work and treaded into Nakula’s room, he opened the door carefully afraid that Nakula was eventually inside still sleeping, but upon seeing the sight, Sadewa frowned, it was empty.
There appeared to be nothing but dirty laundry on the floor, Sadewa made a mental note to scold Nakula about it later once he found the owner of the room first. But where was he? Was Nakula not home yet? The bed also looked like it hadn't been touched, unless there was…a cat? Aslept in a tiny portion of the king bed.
Sadewa’s frown deepened. Did Nakula bring home a cat and now leave again, he wondered. Sadewa clicked his tongue, shaking his head in disagreement, that man can’t even take care of himself properly most of the time, what in his mind to just decide to bring a pet home, and now he himself was nowhere in sight, leaving the white fur cat alone.
Aware of Sadewa's presence the cat started to wake up and let out a big yawn, and Sadewa had to put his worry of Nakula aside, hardly, to get to the cat just to check wheter the cat was okay.
Sadewa sat up on the side of Nakula’s bed and petted the cat tenderly, “Hey, buddy. Why are you here?” Clearly the cat couldn’t answer the question, but it quickly got up like it just had a sudden burst of energy upon seeing Sadewa and let out an extremely loud meow.
Sadewa, on the other hand, had many-many-many cats, so he fell into the habit of just playing with them instantly when he saw one. When Sadewa tried to tickle the lower neck of the cat, the cat just avoided him instead and quickly protruded his hand with its tiny paw, stopping Sadewa’s motion, like refusing to indulge on the pleasure and once again let out a meow of protest.
Sadewa amused in the middle of his raging worry of Nakula, it was almost like, “Okay, okay. Surely you look like someone.” The cat kind of reminded him of Nakula, and now that thought brings him to the reality again about the man.
So Sadewa got up and the cat followed, Sadewa checked the bathroom and the cat followed, Sadewa went to another room and the cat followed.
Sadewa realized Nakula might not be here, but he tried anyway to call the name “Nakula.” It was instead met with a meow, and then silence.
“Nakula, are you even home?” Sadewa called, more like talking to himself, but his companion meowed again, this time louder.
At last, “Nakula?” but it was clear that Nakula wasn't here, but the cat was still meowing now and ever. Sadewa stopped in his tracks, he stood in the middle of the silence in the living room, hands on his hips.
Sadewa this time tried to call Nakula’s number one more time, the line tried to connect and then his hearing caught another sounds, it took him seconds to realize that was Nakula’s ring tone, he headed to the source of the sound in Nakula’s room and found Nakula’s phone was lying on the top of the nightstand, screen lit up showing Sadewa’s contact calling him, Sadewa was bewildered profoundly, now why Nakula’s phone is here but not Nakula himself.
There, Nakula’s cat was still following him and being near before finally decided to bump his head to Sadewa’s calf. Sadewa looked down, somehow eyes met with the cat’s eyes, “No, buddy, I call for Nakula.” Sadewa said like he understood the cat or the cat might as well, offering a smile.
But then just suddenly the cat bit down Sadewa’s foot, “Hey!” Sadewa yelped in surprise when suddenly the cat turned hostile, why was this cat mood suddenly shifted to the worse, he thought. It’s impressive how Nakula’s cat behavior and temper just looks exactly like Nakula’s, it almost looks like the cat was—wait, there’s no way, right?
Sadewa watched the cat carefully, or the most fitting sentence is they watched each other carefully. Sadewa tilted his head and the cat surely mimicked the same thing, looking like their thoughts also mirroring one another.
“Nakula, is that you?”
Oh God, never tell anyone what just Sadewa did or else they must be thinking he had driven into madness.
He almost slapped himself in the face of how ridiculous he sounds, Sadewa tried to reason, is the cat just talkative, maybe hungry or the cat's name is also Nakula. Sadewa almost dropped this bizarre thought and called it coincidence when the cat surprisingly once again replied to him with a loud one.
“Meow!”
This can’t be real.
