Work Text:
Crank, Lug and Diesel are buried deep in a game of Uno late at night. Diesel somehow has only three cards left, while Crank had just gotten a 4+ card from Lug, causing his five cards to turn into nine (Lug said sorry three times, feeling bad for using the card even though it's part of the game). Lug was about to put his next card down when the house phone rang.
"I'll be right back guys", Lug said as he got up to get the phone.
Crank sighed a bit angrily. "Don't take too long."
Diesel made some clicking sounds that sounded a bit smug. Crank flashed his eyebrows at him.
"Oh, shush! I don't care if you're close to winning, the game could still change", Crank scoffed.
Diesel rolled his eyes playfully and chuckled.
Meanwhile, Lug picked up the phone. "Hello? This is Lugnut speaking."
"Hey, Lug. It's Cappy. Can you and your friends do me a small favor?", Cappy's voice answered.
"Hey, Cappy. Sure, we can, what's up?", Lug said, raising a curious brow.
He heard Cappy sigh quietly. "Usually, I have someone watch over Lucy for me when I work, but they aren't available at the moment. Could you guys come over and watch over Lucy for me?"
Lug tapped his chin in thought. "Uh, sure. But who's Lucy?"
"She's like a little sister to me. I've been taking care of her for almost a year now. I know I haven't mentioned her before, but she's really shy and quiet. She doesn't like being the center of attention", Cappy explained.
Lug smiled warmly. "She sounds sweet. We'll watch over her, Cappy. No worries."
"Thank you, Lug. Come over to my apartment tomorrow morning", Cappy said, and Lug could hear the smile in her voice.
"Will do. See you then", Lug grinned, hanging up the phone.
Crank raised a brow at Lug. "Who was that?"
"It was Cappy. She wants the three of us to go to her apartment tomorrow morning to watch over a friend of hers."
Crank tsked, rolling his eyes. "Seriously? Do we have to go?"
Lug looked at Crank with kind eyes. "It's just a onetime thing. You'll be fine."
Diesel nodded eagerly, apparently happy to meet a protentional new friend.
"Fine, whatever. Let's just wrap up this game", Crank sighed in defeat.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Lug let Diesel knock on Cappy's door when they arrived at her apartment. After some short seconds, Cappy opened the door for them and gave them a grateful smile.
"Happy to see you all", Cappy said kindly.
Diesel grabbed Cappy's hand and shook it happily in greeting.
"Hi, Cappy. Don't worry about Lucy, we've got everything covered", Lug said, smiling with his eyes.
Crank put a hand on his hip and raised a curious brow. "Lucy?"
Cappy glanced at Crank and nodded. "Yes. She's like my little sister. She's very kind, she's just somewhat shy."
Crank huffed, uninterested. "Whatever. Let us meet her, I guess."
Cappy let the three friends enter her home. "Lucy, my friends are here. Come say hi", Cappy called out.
The three bots heard small footsteps on the upper floor of the apartment making its way down the stairs. Finally, a female bot came into view.
Crank froze as he studied the bot before him. She had a head of long grey hair that went down to her hips. It looked smooth like silk. She had a black dress that even covered her feet. Her dress had short puffy sleeves that sat on her circle shoulders perfectly. She had a matching black headband with what looked like a black four-leafed clover. Crank saw that she was missing her left hand, where red, green and blue wires could be seen.
But it was her velvet eyes that stared back at Crank that really got the orange bot's attention. She spared glances at Lug and Diesel too, but her eyes seemed to drink Crank in curiously. It made something flutter inside his chest.
Cappy cleared her throat. "This is Lucy. Lucy, these are my friends Lug, Diesel and Crank."
Lucy blinked slowly, and Crank could have sworn her eyes glistened when she did. "Hello...", Lucy said in a small voice.
Lug beamed at Lucy. "Hey there, Lucy. It's very nice to meet you. I'm Lug."
Diesel made clicking sounds and pointed at himself.
"And the smaller dark blue bot is Diesel", Lug gestured to Diesel.
Lucy's velvet eyes landed on Crank again. "And y-you're Crank?", she asked.
Crank nearly melted from the sound of Lucy's voice. Her voice sounded as sweet as birds chirping first thing in the morning.
Crank swallowed thinly. "Uh, yep. T-that's me."
"Anyway, I gotta go to work now. Thanks again you three", Cappy said as she exited the apartment.
When Cappy closed the door behind her, Lug went to walk to Lucy. But before he could get close to her, Lucy flinched slightly.
Lug backed up slightly. "Oh, I understand if my height scares you. My apologies."
Lucy looked hurt and shook her head quickly. "No! I... I'm sorry. I'm sure you're a very kind bot. I've just never seen a bot as big as you." But when she said that she gasped. "Sorry! I-I didn't mean..."
Lug chuckled kindly. "Don't worry. I get that a lot. You're alright."
Diesel was about to walk forward to get a better look at Lucy when he turned his head and saw Crank's expression. His usual small and tired eyes were somewhat wide, and his jaw was slightly hung open in awe. Diesel's own eyes widened at the realization that the cranky orange bot had a crush on Lucy.
Diesel decided to tease Crank by nudging his arm to snap him out of it.
Crank shook his head like he had been in a trance. "Huh? What?", he stammered slightly.
Diesel made lovey dovey clicking sounds, mocking Crank.
Crank's heart stopped. "What?! I do not have a cru-"
"Hello, Crank", Lucy said, appearing in front of him.
Crank nearly jumped out of his metal skin. Lucy had somehow appeared before him, taking in Crank in a curious way.
"Um, hello, Lucy. N-nice to meet you", Crank stuttered, rubbing the back of his neck.
Lucy gave Crank a very tiny smile. "Nice to meet you too, Crank."
The way Lucy stared at Crank made the poor bot nervous. Her eyes were small, but they seemed to shine with curiosity and kindness. Crank compared her eyes to a warm summer evening, right as the sun hits the horizon, giving it that purple shine.
Diesel watched the two, holding back his chuckle.
Lug grinned at Crank and Lucy. "Aw, you two seem to be good friends already."
Lucy glanced at the floor quickly and cleared her throat. "Huh? We're friends already?"
Crank fiddled with his fingers nervously. "Yeah, Lug. We've only just met."
After some moments, Lucy shyly glanced at Crank. "Well... do you w-want to be friends?", she asked in a soft voice.
Crank's eyes widened slightly, but he gave Lucy a smile. "Well... I don't see why not."
Lucy breathed a quiet sigh of relief. "Cappy has been my only friend for a long time. I'm happy that we can be friends."
"Me too", Crank agreed in a soft voice.
Diesel winked at Crank, elbowing his arm again.
Crank glared at Diesel. "Don't even...", Crank whispered only to Diesel.
Lug clapped his hands together. "Hey Lucy. Do you wanna play Uno with us?"
Lucy blinked, confused. "What's Uno?"
Crank shuffled slightly closer to Lucy. "We can teach you how to play."
Lucy sent Crank a kind smile. "That sounds good to me."
