Work Text:
Skulk was very rare once, just a strange form of lichen growing from the mines of an ancient people.
One day, there was an accident. Many miners disappeared without a trace, and when the debris were removed, the place was pulsing with skulk. A strange buzz could be heard from that mine's walls; almost like a call.
Unsettled, the civilisation shut down the mine. They theorised that perhaps the skulk might be some sort of colony of creatures that consumed deceased beings, considered the tunnel infested and moved on with the others.
Two more times, it repeated. Where was all this skulk coming from?
They did not know. Not in time. Not before the buzz grew into moans and a creature rose from the earth.
Fated to disappear, one of many ancient cities now fades in deep darkness, while its hollow warden wanders aimlessly as they all resume what they did in life: search for something, though even they know not what, while eliminating any creatures that approach them from the caverns.
