Work Text:

He could hardly even move.

And of course Breakdown had to catch a virus just hours before a big race. Bee was there to keep an optic on him, making sure he stayed in bed to rest. Thankfully, Bee had no idea about the race.

“You know I don't need a babysitter right?”

“You? Primus knows that you need 10 babysitters just to make sure you don't do anything stupid.”

Bee rolled his optics.

“Hey, I take offense to that.”

“Good, it was meant to offend you.”

Breakdown chuckled, wincing when it hurt his vents. Bee's expression softened at that and he stood up from his chair to go sit next to his Conjunx on the bed, resting a servo on his chassis.

“Get some rest, save your strength to get better.”

Breakdown smiled. Bee then stood up off the bed, walking towards the door. Bee gave his Conjunx one last smile before walking out of the room, letting the door close behind him.

Perfect, it was go time.

Breakdown mustered every bit of strength he had just to sit up, and then to stand up off the bed. He waited for only minutes before he opened the door with the keypad and checked to make sure that Bee was gone. He walked out, well more like limped out of his room, limping down the hallway.

He made a bee line for the exit, transforming into his alt mode and speeding down the road in the direction of his race. He felt bad that he was taking advantage of Bee’s trust though.

He finally pulled up to the start line, scouting out his competition. A human male in a white and black car, a human male in a green car, a human female in a purple car, and…what's this? He was getting an energon reading in the pink and yellow car beside him. She was a McLaren Senna. A very rare sports car, impressive.

“Hey…who are you?”

“A racer, just like you.”

The femme said.

“Great, just get ready to eat my dust out on the track.”

He boasted.

“I'm not so sure, I'm not getting very pleasant readings from my scans on you. Are you sure you should even be here?”

She asked.

“Oh Primus…my Conjunx wanted me to stay in bed but I can handle myself even if I'm feeling a little unwell. I'm still the best.”

“We'll see.”

The femme teased.

The starting light flashed before counting down. Red, yellow, green! Go!

Breakdown stepped on the gas pedal, pushing it all the way down to the floorboard. He was immediately in the lead when he left the starting line. 10 laps around the track and he wins. Easy as a…slice of cake…? Or whatever the humans say.

He stepped on the brakes to drift around the corner perfectly, gaining the traction back when he pushed the gas pedal again. This track was huge compared to the Witwicky raceway, way better for handling bigger races.

On his 4th lap, he began to feel something off. He felt and heard rattling in his engine. He brushed it off, opting to ignore it. He was still in the lead.

On his 7th lap, it began getting harder to keep control of his wheels. Why were they shaking? He was fine. He had a race to win. The femme was catching up with him.

On his 9th lap, he lost control of his tires, trying to regain control. In a matter of seconds, he spun out. He tried everything to stop, but before he could, he hit the concrete wall.

That hurt.

The femme had passed him but then stopped and backed up, stopping next to him.

“Are you good?”

She asked.

“No. Maybe Bee was right…”

Breakdown confessed.

“Follow me and I can get you out. Drive slowly.”

The femme instructed, driving through the middle of the track and leading him to the exit.

He followed her. It hurt his ego to forfeit as he watched someone else cross the finish line. But this didn't count, if he were in top shape, he would've won.

He had his arm slung over the femme's shoulders as she helped him back to the base.

“This it?”

She asked.

“Yeah. Thanks for your help.”

“No problem.”

Suddenly, Bumblebee rushed out of the base, crossing his arms.

“Where the frag have you been? I was looking everywhere for you.”

“I…uh…”

He tried to think of an excuse, but when he looked at the femme for help, she was giving him a glare, urging him to tell the truth. Breakdown sighed.

“I was at a race.”

“Seriously? In your current condition?”

“I know Bee, I'm sorry. It was stupid of me to sneak out and I ended up getting hurt.”

He sighed again.

Bee also sighed, beginning to take Breakdown from the femme

“It's fine. Let's get you to medbay to see how bad it is. On behalf of both me and my idiot Conjunx, thanks for your help, mystery femme.”

“The names Lightcanon, happy to help.”

She introduced herself.

“Well, you're welcome to stay here if you want, all Autobots and Decepticons are welcome.”

Bee offered.

“Thanks for the offer, but nah. I like being on my own. But who knows? Maybe I'll change my mind at some point. Or maybe I'll just stop by for a visit. Either way, I wish you bots the best.”

Lightcanon said her farewells before transforming into her alt mode and driving off.

When the mechs started walking, Breakdown felt the urge to apologize again.

“Bee, I really am sorry.”

Bee’s tone was softer this time.

“I know, it's okay.”

“You forgive me?”

Bee smiled, giving Breakdown a soft kiss.

“Of course I do.”
