Chapter Text
Scott woke up in a cold sweat, pushing the lid of the coffin up. He felt as a cloud of dust encased him, his vision blurring. Gods, this place was wrecked…. The man carefully stepped out, descending the spiral staircase and studying how his castle deteriorated. The statues were crumbling, a smell of dust and mildew was surrounding the structure. The man frowned as he left what used to be the most special place in that godforsaken town, which now looked like it could crumble with a gust of wind. Suddenly he heard footsteps coming from behind him.
Scott turned around quickly, fully prepared to sink his fangs into the mystery person’s neck. He felt himself relax slightly, recognizing the face of the man before him. Wait… Abolish…? How was he alive…? Scott didn’t remember ever turning the other man. As much he wanted to he (unfortunately) valued the other’s opinion on him and he always failed to grasp at why that was. Sure, Abolish had been his most loyal servant, always at the Lord’s beck and call, but that had never stopped Scott before…
His servant’s voice brought him back to reality.
“My lord…?”
Scott nodded, a small smile forming on his undead face.
“Indeed it is. Though I would’ve thought you’d been dead”
The blue haired man carefully watched as the other nodded, seemingly not knowing just how long it had been.
“Say, Abolish, do you know how long it’s been?”
“No, my lord”
Scott nodded, a smirk forming as his eyes darkened.
“Well, according to that damned tome it’s been about 600 years! Now, how a human could live that long I just fail understand.”
“I… I’m not sure”
“Of course not…” Scott muttered to himself. No one was ever helpful when they needed to be were they. “Well! Come on now, we can figure it out together.” He said, bowing and extending a hand to the other. “Shall we?”
The other man blushed faintly as he took the lord’s hand, tempting a smile out of Scott. He did have to say though, he was rather good looking…. Wait a minute, what was he thinking! He’s the head of the Goldsmith coven, he had to see if any of the other vampires were still alive! He didn’t have time for romance for gods’ sake.
Scott grasped Abolish’s hand, leading him across the broken down bridge that had connected his castle to the town. He found himself what townsperson had the magic to put a spell on Abolish of all people to essentially freeze him in time. If only that person was still alive… oh well! The two of them could figure it out on their own.
“Sir, why are we going to Oakhurst?”
“Oh, mainly just to see how it turned out.” He replied with a grin, his eyes glistening with excitement. “Based on everything that I’ve seen it would’ve had to crumbled to dust! If only you knew how long I had been waiting for that to happen.”
“I see…” Abolish murmured, biting his lip hesitantly “and why are you taking me with you?”
“Well I’m glad you asked my dear servant!” The blue haired man replied, a look of pure chaos glittering in his eyes. “If there are somehow people there I might need someone there with me! Don’t need suspicion raised about me do we? And of course, you know the most about vampires other than me. Maybe there’ll be others there, maybe we need to come with an excuse, you never know.”
Never would he say that it was also simply because he liked the company from him. Even back in the 1200s he liked Abolish the most, promoting him to personal butler rather quickly. The company of the other man calmed him, it maybe even comforted him. It was amusing to see how much more comfortable Abolish was with him. Back then he was one of the most respected vampires! At its peak the coven had at least 200 vampires in it, something Scott was rather proud of. Whether any of them were still alive he didn’t know. At least he tended not to get attached.
“Scott…” he heard the other mumble, quickly facing him “look at the town….”
The vampire stopped in his tracks, the gate of what used to be a productive town scorched. The wood of the border was rotted and dark, deep holes bored in it every few inches. Gods… how long had this place been without people living there? His gaze fell on Abolish, the human stepping into the town, seemingly entranced as his fingers traced the walls.
Scott’s footsteps fell into beat with others, observing the state that the town had been left in. After who knows how long there was a still a stench of a fire, maybe even human flesh burning with it. He felt a smile form, it had lasted much longer than he ever expected it to. If only he was awake to watch that town burn to the ground. Oh how much joy it would’ve brought him. Even thinking about it he could feel himself grin. Sure, the people who lived in Oakhurst were fun to scare and made as good entertainment but he almost never found anyone with any use there. The whole town was essentially a toy to him, fun to play with but no real use would come out of it. At least he was able to get the townspeople to do the manual labor! That was truly the bane of his existence.
All of a sudden he heard voices, causing Abolish to grip his silver dagger and Scott to turn invisible. Wait… why the hell couldn’t he turn invisible? It was only then he finally realized he lost almost all of his powers, feeling weak, as if he could pass out any second. Even his hair turning back to the cyan color it was when he was first turned. Dammit… why didn’t Abolish say so?! He could’ve helped him kill some animals on the way to the town! He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, it was okay, he could get back to where he was.
“Well, shall we see what idiotic people decided to visit this place?” He murmured, flashing a smile at Abolish that showed his fangs. Who knows he would have to attempt to hide them for.
The other man nodded, flashing Scott and similar smile. “I suppose we shall”
Gods, he could feel the heat rising towards his cheeks. He quickly buried it down in his undead heart. It was nothing, it was just the flattery that made him feel so nicely when around the other. Yes, that’s it, just the flattery, nothing else!
—————————————————————
Very quickly Scott learned that the people who ended up at the town were borderline insane. Pearl was a werewolf hunter, Avid was fully convinced that Scott was a vampire, Owen quite suspicious to be frank. At least the people there were interesting!
He had Abolish with him almost constantly, almost nervous to let him leave his side. He could tell, also, that the other was clearly hiding something about how he’s been alive for that long. What that was though, Scott didn’t know and gods it was bothering him. He’d only been awake again for a few days and instead of planning on how to turn someone his thoughts had been plagued by that damned butler! At least the house him and Shelby were building was distracting enough.
“My lord…” he heard a voice say, causing him to turn on his heels.
“Gods Abolish” the vampire exclaimed, instinctively letting out a hiss. He quickly recomposed himself, dusting off his tailcoat with a slight frown. “Don’t scare me like that”
He glared as the other shrugged, a slight smirk playing on his face. “I do believe there’s another vampire here”
Scott nodded “Owen right?” The other man confirmed. “Well then! I suppose I have someone I should speak with. Would you like to come?” The vampire bowed playfully, extending a hand out to the other, a smirk playing at his lips.
—————————————————————
Well! He was going to have a civil conversation with Owen at the beacon but the gods seemed to have other plans.
Scott could hear Abolish threaten whoever came across the three of them but seemingly was unsuccessful. He sighed, frowning as he turned around to face them. Oh, lovely… it was Pyro. Possibly one of his least favorites of the townspeople. Not very hard though considering the only one he really liked outside of abolish was Shelby… that’s not the point though!
“Now now Abolish” he said, placing a hand on the other man’s shoulder “I’m sure he has his reasons for being here.”
“He better…” the human muttered under his breath, fully ready to take out the silver dagger stored in his coat.
“Now, I was just trying to have a conversation with our lovely lumberjack!” The vampire said, gesturing to Owen “and you seemed to have interrupted us. So, would you like to face the consequences or to run? Your choice”
The intruder seemingly froze in place, allowing Owen to sense what was happening.
“Ah, well I was getting rather hungry…”
“And how long have you been around?”
“Around 200 years?”
Scott, suppressed a laugh, seeing Abolish look at him with a knowing look.
“Only 200? That’s baby talk…”
The other vampire stammered, a look of shock flashing across his face.
“200 is baby talk?! How long have you been around for?!”
Scott smirked, glancing down at his nails as he replied. “Oh, at least 600.”
The look on Owen’s face was worth it, the blue haired man barely hiding a laugh.
“Goldsmith… damn I knew it sounded familiar!”
“Well, I do believe I get first dibs now.”
The other begrudgingly agreed before they heard Pyro speak.
“On what… food…?”
Scott turned to Abolish and grinned, a laugh finally escaping him. “No silly.” He said, turning to face Pyro. “On you of course!”
The human barely was able to process what the vampire said before quickly running away. Ah… prey never did make it easy did they. Scott sighed as he followed him, sinking his fangs into the man as he finally cornered him.
Gods he felt wonderful as he swallowed the blood. He could feel the power slowly coming back to him. Watching Pyro squirm was inherently satisfying to him as well. The annoying human’s life source being sucked from him. Well… he wasn’t a human anymore was he? Scott just stared as he pulled away, damn, he hasn’t meant to turn him…
The man frowned, cocking his head slightly. He silently left the man on the ground, leaving him to Owen as he left. His eyes darted to his loyal butler, the look of shock on the other’s face making the vampire stop in his tracks. Gods he hasn’t seen that look on anyone in ages, let alone Abolish….
The human was frozen in place, staring at the body that just had its life source sucked out of it.
“Don’t worry” Scott muttered, “he’s not technically dead”
Abolish nodded, snapping out of the trance he was in quickly, allowing himself one final look before following the other man.
Scott hummed to himself as he went back to the town. Now that he thought about it, it would have been centuries since Abolish has witnessed something like that. He knew that the other was used to watching things like that but it hadn’t crossed his mind the shock that might plague the other after watching it again.
The vampire did have to admit, it was much gorier than he would’ve liked but that wasn’t the point.
“Abolish… how long has it been since you’ve last seen someone be turned?”
The other hesitated before replying.
“A…” he starts, trailing off almost as if questioning what his answer should be “A long time…”
Scott nodded, playing along with the lie temporarily.
“And it shocked you, seeing it after so long, yes?”
“Yes, sir”
“Well then,” the vampire started, turning around to face his companion midstep, his cloak flowing with his movements. “I suppose I’m inclined to believe you. But alas… I fail to be persuaded.”
He heard the human curse under his breath, almost causing him to smile the slightest bit.
“My dear butler, you’ve been around me long enough to know I can tell when people lie…” he murmured “so why did you?”
The other seemed to be frozen in place, his mouth opening and closing.
“Sire… I…. I have my reasons”
Scott frowned momentarily before nodding. He couldn’t afford to lose the person who answered to his every beck and call. He sighed, running his hands through his hair.
“I suppose I have to trust you.” he said softly, the human seemingly relaxing subtly, his shoulders rolling back. “But, you have to tell me eventually. Otherwise I will find out myself. Understand?”
By the time he was finished threatening the man his face was mere inches away from the other. His eyes drifted to the other’s lips before locking eyes. He heard the other man’s breath catch in his throat. He could practically hear the other’s heartbeat. Gods… he had never seen the man so flustered.
“My… what did you do for 600 years” he whispered, lips only centimeters from the human’s ear.
He heard as the other took a breath as he responded.
“Tended to our-” he caught himself quickly, looking at the vampire tentatively “…your castle”
Scott could feel warmth running up to his cheeks. The vampire’s mind suddenly went to any of the surroundings. The crunching of the leaves they were stepping on. The sky turning from a lush, rose colored red to a deep, practically black, shade of blue. And the moon… gods the moon was beautiful. The light of the rising moon illuminated the other man. Dammit… he couldn’t look away.
Scott nodded to himself, leaning slightly closer to the butler.
“No, no you were right the first time.”
He glanced down as the other’s cheeks flushed a light pink. Scott could get used to seeing that more often he supposed….
After observing the human he took a deep breath, stepping backwards. He had a lot of things to work through didn’t he…
