“What are you doing?” Alec watches James slide his glass of water into the sunlight streaming through the window. “Trying to warm it up in the most inefficient manner?”
“Making rainbows.”
“Why?”
James shrugs, gesturing to the distorted rainbows. “They look nice.”
“I never said they didn’t.”
“It’s new.”
“New?”
“Doing things just to see something pretty, rather than the result being purely beneficial. It’s peaceful.”
Alec takes James’ hand across the table. “These are the moments we’ve been fighting for.”
“Oh, Alec, we both know that we’re still fighting.” James smiles lopsidedly. “All we did is change the battlefield.”
