Chapter 1: Malefique

Chapter Text

Chapter 1

In Magnolia Town sits the Fairy Tail Guildhall, a stately, two-story building made of stone and mortar, with the insignia of the Fairy Tail Guild engraved and embraided across the surface and in the many banners that sit on the walls. Within this hall, lives the Fairy Tail Guild, a rambunctious, chaotic Guild full of mages who are united by the concepts of family, adventure, and camaraderie. Among the members of the Guild are Erza Scarlet, the powerful and fierce 'Titania', a red-haired mage with powerful Re-quip magic, Natsu Dragnel, the pink-haired Fire Dragon Slayer with a penance for chaos and a knack for setting anything on fire, Gray Fullbuster, the stoic and ice-cold Ice-Make Mage, as well as a couple other dozen mages who call the Guild their family.

Natsu's flames fly and the cold snap of Gray's magic fill the air as the two permanent rivals clash over the sound of laughter from the other members as Lucy Heartfilia and Wendy Mavell try desperately to get their friends to stop, Cana downs yet another barrel of whiskey, and Erza simply scowls, rubbing the bridge of her nose in exasperation watching everything. Juvia Lockster, the Water-Make mage with an obsessive crush on Gray fawns over the brooding Ice Mage while Gajeel Redfox and Levy McGarten listen in, rolling their eyes. Mirajane Strauss intervenes with motherly concern as she comments about the fight.

"Oh boys, not again. We just had those tables fixed." She said with a sigh as she pours Cana another glass, watching fondly as Gray and Natsu exchange verbal insults and physical blows. But nobody makes a move to actually stop the fight.

In the midst of this chaos and havoc, sitting alone in a quieter corner of the Guildhall, sits the enigmatic, mysterious new mage, Victoria Knight. Her black hair cascading down her back and framing her face as she reads an old, yellowed tome she acquired from her last job. The paper feels flimsy in her hand as she studies each page, and even as Natsu and Gray's fight carries in the background, Victoria's focus is entirely on the book as she feels her magic buzzing just beneath the surface of her skin.

"Focus Tori..." She reminds herself as her magic inadvertently swells, a violet aura surrounding her hand as she tries to channel her magic and control it, closing her eyes and mediating for a moment, feeling the psionic-energy flowing through her veins as her body is surrounded by that aura. She can feel the power radiating through her; she can hear the thoughts of her newfound Guildmates pressing into her mind as she tries to focus. The air becomes charged with her power as violet sparks fly off her body. Then the memories come flooding back...

One Year Ago

"Get Up you worthless scum!" Came a gruff voice, then the banging on the metal rod in his hands against the bars on Victoria's cell; Victoria woke with a start, she had curled against the cold, stone floor and sat up, wearing nothing but the rags her captors call clothes. The man smirked; his dark eyes filled with a sense of wickedness as his gaze looks over Victoria's startled, thin frame.

"It's that time again." He said as he opened Victoria's cell, and two more thugs walked in and roughly forced Victoria to stand, her legs weak from malnourishment as they forced her forward, stopping only to mock Victoria before forcing her up again, dragging her through the prison, their sanctuary... Victoria felt her head throb and her knees weak as her captors, three burly men easily three times her size, all wielding some weapon and Anti-Magic enchantments, to drag Victoria along; her head pounded as she felt the power... the Lacrima they implanted in her... searching for escape, almost speaking to her as she was dragged along.

Victoria felt her vision blur as the thoughts of her captors ran against the surface of her mind, unbidden and unwelcome; a mix of intrigue, desire, hunger, and disdain, all rolled into one. 'This one's lasted longer than the others-', 'I bet she's the one-', 'damn, this girl got ass-', and other thoughts that Victoria couldn't control, only try and redirect as she was lead along; she stumbled along the way, and was grabbed roughly, painfully, forced to stand back up.

"Keep Walking." Said the main man, named Fredrick, his voice low and gruff as he forced Victoria to her feet and shoved her forward and into another room. The Lab, the key feature in this sanctuary, as her captors called it.

Victoria felt a chill in her spine as she stumbled into the lab, and was forced to sit in a chair, which was also enchanted with Anti-Magical Runes and barriers, and was strapped in, unable to move. Yet, despite the anti-magic failsafes, Victoria felt the familiar turmoil of power welling within her, unbridled and raw but uncontrolled but subdued by the runes and barriers. So, she sat, trapped, and unable to move. Then she heard it, the cold, calloused laugh she had grown all-too familiar hearing.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't my favorite pet." Came a soft, malicious voice that beckoned Victoria, made her feel small and vulnerable as she felt a finger trace along her jaw from the back, and the figure came around.

"D-Docteur Malefique..." Victoria said, her heart racing instinctively as the figure came into her view. Docteur Malefique was a tall, beautiful women, her long, spindly fingers traced Victoria's jawline, licking her lips as she did so, there was an almost rabid look in her eye as Victoria shuddered under the touch, feeling terrified and vulnerable as Malefique continued to examine her again, and watched as the blonde ladies face contorted into a cruel, unsettling smirk.

"Why yes my dear? You seem rather fatigued today, my precious." Malefique said, her lips pursed into an amused smirk as she continued to run her finger along Victoria's cheek, heading down her neck, "Fatigue makes you look rather bland, my dear. Not good." She continued as she pulled her hand away, before moving almost too gracefully too be human, too fluid to be natural, too unorthodox to be anything artificial as she put on her gloves, before turning back to Victoria and beginning the examination.

Malefique pulled Victoria back by her hair and laughed uncontrollably, "You are coming along well my dear, I can feel your power growing within you. I knew you were the perfect candidate for my tests." She says, her screeching laughter piercing the air as she used her magic, some form of Archival Magic, to look back at the notes she has on Victoria, as well as the hundreds of other test subjects she's had. "Most people who've died by now, but not you my precious." Malefique said with a rapid laugh as she kissed Victoria's forehead, causing the power humming underneath Victoria's skin to buzz slightly, her breathing heavy as she feels Malefique get close, too close, before Malefique backs away slightly, but activates a lever to make the chair Victoria is strapped in lean back and look towards a bright light. "Now, of course we have to break you, then remake you..." She smirks cruelly, "...My favorite part." She added as the lights flashed and Victoria couldn't help but watch the lights.

"No...no..." Victoria said as she tried to fight, tried to resist, tried anything; Malefique had already taken her memories, her home, she remembered her name, 'Victoria Knight' but forgot who she was... really, and now it seemed Malefique was going to take that as well, even as Victoria focused on the lights, hearing Malefique whisper sweet nothings into her ear, feeling the sting of Malefique biting her ear, Victoria felt her power swirling, humming faintly, just underneath the surface. As the lights continued to swirl, Victoria's breathing became slower, more labored, and she found herself thinking, 'Is this it? Am I done? What will happen to me?' she thought, and she heard Malefique's thoughts press into her minds simultaneously, thoughts of lustful desire, of a power-hungry sadist who saw unlimited potential in this ancient magic she was rekindling, and just as Victoria felt herself slipping away... she clenched her jaw, her eyes suddenly turning from a deep blue to a stunning violet color, and she locked her gaze with Malefique. "No." She said as she finally harnessed her magic, and with maximum effort she was able to counter the Anti-Magic bonds that held her, a faint purple aura swirling around her as she floated just above the chair, Malefique stumbling backwards in awe as she looked up at her 'project'

"Magnifique! It worked!" She said with an unnerving unbridled joy as she looked over Victoria's floating form, her own brown eyes sparkling with some sort of twisted enjoyment as Victoria looks down at herself, her body trembling slightly from the power she's channeling, but despite that she remains focused, her violet iris locking with Malefique's brown ones as Victoria manages to hone in on Malefique's thoughts, 'Simply wonderful! So powerful! So alluring! If I can control her, I will become the Queen of all Isghur! Mhm... she looks so delicious.' The thoughts that made Victoria winch slightly as she clenched her jaw, attempting to stay focused even as Malefique's perverted thoughts threatened to insert themselves into Victoria's mind.

"I won't let you." Victoria said, her voice soft, but firm, like velvet steel as she stared down Malefique; her body in pain from the exertion of this magic and the exhaustion from the lack of sleep and the hunger, but Victoria was determined. She didn't remember who she was, who her family was, or where she came from, but she knew on thing... She couldn't just let Malefique succeed in whatever plot Victoria was supposed to be a part of.
