Work Text:
Snowflakes fluttered down from the clouds while fluffy white snow rested on the ground, coating the horizon a milky white while Jaron let out a sharp sigh with the sound of his pen clattering to the spruce desk below him.
The wooden chair creaked as Jaron leaned back, tilting the chair on its two back legs. His eyes tracked the small white specks of white that floated down and hit the panes of the window. His hands moved to the back of his head while his feet lifted off the ground slightly, balancing the chair that he sat in.
"Stupid cases.."
He let out a silent yawn as he pushed himself forwards and begrudgingly picked up his pen again. His fingers subconsciously began to twirl the pen in between one another, idly spinning the pen as Jaron breifly re-read the chunks of text that he circled with his pen. The simple sentences repeated themselves in the mans head like a song you couldnt forget.
Jaron had a nagging feeling that these three texts had something *else* to them... Like a hidden meaning, a hidden message that his sleep deprived mind couldnt piece together. The way the punctuation played into the words, nonetheless the odd choice of words themselves left by the perpetrator of the murder. A small yawn slipped past his lips as his head ached, annoyance creeping in and replacing the small hope he had for saving and putting an end to this case whilst he repeated the sentence to himself for the 19th time.
Exhaustion nagged at him as he let out a heavy breath before he pushed back off the desk and stood up, the chair falling and clashing with the floor while Jarons hand moved up to slip off his hat, placing it on the desk gently before he raked a hand through his hair. His socks slid across the oak planked floors as he left his office and made his way to the kitchen for a moment to think.
The loud *crunch* of Jarons teeth connecting with an apple filled the quiet house that he and Rekrap shared. He leaned back against the counter, his eyes silently darting back to the bright, sugary white snow outside. Currently it was just Jaron at home right now, Rekrap was busy visiting Branzy or likely stopping in at his teams base to see Clown or something like that. Yeah, Rekrap and Jaron were on different teams so what-?!! Their bond was inseparable!
The detective bit another chunk off the apple as he walked towards the window that shined view outside while overtop of the sink. Jaron leaned over the sink while his eyes traced the shape of the snowflake before his hand moved up to do the same. Jaron always found snowflakes fascinating, especially how not a single one was the same. They were all unique in their own ways. That's what Jaron loved most about the winter seasons, the billions of snowflakes that fell from the clouds every year.
Jarons bright blue eyes narrowed as his fingers traced the edges of the frozen star on the glass.
"The edges.... outskirts... wait a minute.."
The deep red apple wobbled as it was quickly placed down on the counter beside the sink as Jaron darted back to his office, his mind racing as he slipped into his office with a stumble.
His hands slapped against the table as he leaned over the desk, his eyes swiftly reading over the text yet again but this time he focused on the *edges* of the paragraph that was found at the scene of the crime rather than the bits in the *middle*..
Jarons eyes widen as he takes another glance at the punctuation, the odd amount of periods, the weird hyphens before it clicks. His eyes widened while a grin grew on his lips. His hand darted for the pen while the other one darted for a piece of blank paper. He started to sprawl down the punctuation on the paper.
"Holy shit..." Jaron murmured as he took a step back before he spun on his heel and pumped his fist.
"YES! YESSS!! IM THE BEST!" He whooped as he dashed towards the front door, stumbling to grab his scarf and shoes which rested undisturbed before Jaron snatched the scarf off of the coat racks hook and shoved his feet into his shoes.
He hurriedly wrapped the scarf around his neck and hastily buttoned up his iconic trench coat before his hand wrapped around the doorknob and swung open the door while he ran-..
*OOF!"
Jarons hands hit the floor as he was pushed back into his house. He looked up, an annoyed look on his face which quickly lightened up as he saw SB737 standing in the door way, clearly shooken by his partners erratic behavior.
"You alright there Detective?"
SB quipped as a teasing smirk pulled at the corners of his lips while he pushed out his hand for Jarons support before he spoke again.
"What are you in such a rush for?"
SB's hand clasped around Jarons as he pulled the brunette back to his feet. He stepped inside and shut the door behind him while words started to tumble out of Jarons mouth.
"Well you know that case I was working on right? The murder of- yeah you know which one-! So I think I've actually got a lead and.."
Jarom continued to ramble, his hands flailing around as he spoke, his fingertips practically dripping with emotion as they swayed around with every word that fell out of Jarons mouth. SB nodded in response as he began to listen to Jarons rant.
SB737 slipped off his shoes and Jaron subconsciously did the same while he kept speaking. SBs attention was fully on the other as he began taking off his jacket and hanging it on the coat rack. He let out small hums in response and gave a small "yeah?" Or "Really?" Once in a while just to reassure the detective that he was truly listening.
SB silently continued to listen while he slowly began to take off Jarons scarf and unbutton his jacket. Jaron, who was completely oblivious to what his lover was doing due to being completely infatuated with his rant, continued to ramble endlessly about the case he was working on. SB slipped off the others jacket and hung it right beside his own grey one on the rack, leaving the detective in only his white button up and red tie that SB found so endearing.
Jaron paused before he ran towards his office, stumbling into it like always as he grabbed his evidence while SB followed behind him. Jaron pointed at the mess of papers he had on his desk, pointing out the key factors of the case to SB.
SB737 let out a hum of acknowledgement as Jaron pointed out certain things and basically mansplained them to him. SB didnt really care about that though, of course he was listening! He loved hearing Jaron ramble, he found it adorable and endearing at how the detective could get so excited and silly about this stuff. But that wasnt the only thing he was doing.
SB's eyes that were hidden behind his sunglasses traced over Jarons face, admiring him as he talked endlessly about this case. A small smile crossed SBs lips as he silently admired his partner, taking in every little detail of the brunettes face as if he hadn't done this a million times before.
A small frown played at his lips as he noted the dark circles under Jarons oceanic eyes, it was clear that the detective hadn't slept last night, possibly even the night before. SB loved how infatuated Jaron could be in his work, but it tugged at his heartstrings when his boyfriend neglected himself for the sake of them..
As the final words fell out of Jarons mouth, he took a breath and smiled at SB.
"So.. what do you think?" He asked as his eyes shone with excitement for SBs answer.
"About the case? I think that its wonderful that you've gotten a lead on it now, especially after how hard you've been working recently."
SB smiled softly as he stepped in front of Jaron and gently cupped his face, examining its beauty as his heart ached at the sight of the eye bags. SB frowned before he spoke again.
"You havent been sleeping properly, haven't you?"
Jaron swallowed as he gave a sheepish smile and averted his eyes but didnt pull out of SBs gently grasp.
"Pfft-.. I've been sleeping just fine!"
"Mhm..?"
"Yeah-! I always get sleep, you know this!"
"Are you sure..?"
"Erm... yeah-"
"Jaron.."
"Okay I lied-"
SB let out a soft sigh as he pulled his hands away and instead moved them to hold the others hand.
"You need to sleep so you're gonna do that, yeah?" He said as he started to leave the room, pulling Jaron with him while the detective protested.
"W-Wait no! I have stuff to do SB!" Jaron stuttered as he followed SB, looking up at him while he took them both to the living room.
"Well that stuff can wait. You're clearly exhausted and a case is no good if you're not thinking straight."
"I'm thinking just fine I'll have you know-"
"Whatever you say darling."
Jaron grumbled something quietly as his face flushed at the name. Pet names were something that always made him fold...
SB pulled Jaron towards the couch and tossed him the remote before he slid over to the smaller couch on the left, tugging its blanket off before returning back to the couch where Jaron sat with the remote and a confused look on his face.
"Let's watch that Grian guy or whatever his name is that you like so much." SB said as he sat down on the edge of the couch. He slid his arm across Jarons back and pulled him to his side.
Jarons eyes lit up as he processed SBs words. He didn't have a counter argument to that wonderful statement that the man just suggested.
Jarons head rested on SBs shoulder as he leaned on his lover, the sound of Grains hermitcraft s7 episode 1 playing in the background. It was his favourite season of all time okay-?! S6 came into a close second though..
10 episodes in, the sound of soft snores coming from Jaron played with the sound of Grian talking about some castle and Mumbo Jumbo guy. SB didnt care that Jaron had fallen asleep, it was his plan after all, but now he was here watching this Grian, basically Jarons idol. SB737 saw many, and I mean MANY, similar traits between his lover and this blonde dude.
40 episodes in, SB started to yawn as the Grians ranting started to bore him.. He shifted Jaron to sit up straight, making sure he didnt wake him up. He grabbed the remote and shut off the TV before he turned back to Jaron. He gently picked up Jaron who shifted in his arms but stayed asleep.
SB laid down on the couch slowly before he laid Jaron on top of him, making sure the blanket was covering the sleeping detective before he started to run his hand through Jarons hair, his iconic brown fedora on the ground beside the remote.
"Pesky bird.." SB chucked while he mimicked the saying that Grian constantly said and shook his head before he slowly started to fall asleep, the deep blue night sky swallowing the light blue clouded sky as the moon rose high into the sky..
