After Uzi is able to calm down, V takes her out for a little surprise, leading to calm, loving comfort.

Uzi stared up at the glistening stars that were blanketed across the night sky, hues of cobalt and violet dancing with one another. Clouds started to swirl into the mix, looking heavy and full of snow. Saturn and its subsatelite shone brightly, making the snow on the ground glisten underneath her. She sighed quietly to herself, her faux breath forming a cloud in front of her. Her legs sat crisscrossed, arms behind her holding herself up with her hands. It was quiet. Quiet, and isolated.

It had been a long day inside the bunker, and she needed some fresh air to cool her systems. Clear her head. She’d been outside for 3 hours at that point–metal frozen to the touch. She could go back inside, she knew she needed to soon, at least. N was probably looking for her, he would have noticed her absence. V, too, maybe.

Would anyone else have noticed her lack of appearance, though? Maybe people would have celebrated it, lacking the weird girl in the corner of the class that kept to herself. The loud, annoying comments she made in the halls alongside V. She wouldn’t change herself–not for anyone–but she couldn’t help but still feel bitter. She didn’t need anyone's approval or acknowledgement–but she still craved it. Uzi groaned.

Despite the cold nipping at her systems, her CPU still felt clouded with feelings she couldn’t understand. Programmed emotions–but human. So. Painfully. Human. She had two close friends–one even closer than that. Yet she still felt alone. The world felt heavy, like it was pressing down on her chassis, and her chassis only.

She let out a heavy sigh and looked up at the stars, as if they could understand her questions and answer them without resistance. The wind gently rustled the trees around her, the breeze making her servos shudder as she zipped up her hoodie and brought out her wings, wrapping them around herself.

Why did she have to be like this? Why did she choose to feel this way? She could just go back inside, see her friends and relax. Maybe even draw or plan a little. No, she forced herself to be isolated. Alone. Cold. Upset.

Uzi muttered a curse to herself and buried her visor into her hands, leather wings enclosing tighter around herself until the moonlight no longer reached her eyelights. She was useless. Useless, useless, useless! She didn’t want to feel upset, so why was she so persistent on making herself feel that way?

Her body started shaking from built up frustration inside of her, digital tears threatening to spill over ombre eyes. She angrily balled her hand into a fist, raising it above herself and slamming it onto her head, systems whining in pain. She sniffled, the sharp ache from the hit cracking her brittle walls as she finally started to cry.

Her body was wrecked with choked sounds, tears pouring down her visor as she peeled back her wings narrowly just to see the sky again. She tiredly lifted her head upwards, finding herself envious of the calm, unchanging airspace. Small, white flurries started to pour down from the clouds, a few snowflakes landing on her visor while she blinked through the tears and wiped them off.

The stars judged her silently as they beamed, matching the downpouring snow that was settling onto the ground. It was so peaceful out here, Uzi just wished she felt as peaceful on the inside.

Sobs overtook her body, not understanding why she felt such complex and inner turmoil. She sat out there for a while–curled up and crying pathetically as snow built up onto her wings–until she heard soft, controlled footsteps approaching her.

She quickly hushed her cries, rapidly wiping her visor to will the tears away, trying to hide her shame. As she moved her wings back to fully unveil herself, she looked over her shoulder and saw warm, yellow lights bathe the pale ground.

V’s expression was contorted with worry, a small frown on her face as her eyelights studied Uzi’s with tenderness. She walked closer, her nanite tail swaying low to the ground until she sat right next to Uzi, crisscrossed, arms folding over one another.

Blush lines appeared on Uzi’s visor out of sudden embarrassment, causing her to look away back to the stars to ignore the disassembly drone that appeared so suddenly. It was hard to ignore her, though, not with the yellow light she cascaded onto the ground. The snow already glimmered—but now it felt warm. Inviting. Uzi would have tried to be annoyed–to keep up with her ‘edgy personality’--if it wasn’t for the fact she so desperately craved her presence.

Uzi took a deep breath to try and steady herself, wings slowly closing back around her body. V didn’t speak, but she did move closer, sitting almost pressed up to Uzi’s wing. Silence bathed over the two for a while, and it was surprisingly relaxing to Uzi. It didn’t last forever, though.

“So, do you wanna talk about it, or remain angsty?”

Uzi frowned, making a bitter expression towards the taller drone as she pulled her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them with her tail now resting over her boots.

“Alright, alright. That answers my question, sorry. Uh.. I’ve been looking for you. What have you been doing out here all alone?”

Uzi’s stubborn personality faltered for a moment, confiding in the comfort of V’s company. Her body loosened as she sighed defeatedly, shoulders deflating with her. “I just.. wanted to be alone, okay? I didn’t—I don’t feel good.”

V shifted a bit closer to let her cheek lean against the worker’s beanie. Her hand snaked closer and gently placed it over Uzi’s, softly rubbing the little, glowing triangle with her thumb. “That’s okay, but you didn’t tell anyone. You know how worried N gets about you, right?”

Uzi knew what V really meant to say was, ‘I get really worried about you.’ N is definitely a worry wart—but V is, too. Just too scared to actually admit it

“Yeah, yeah, whatever.. sorry, I’ll tell y’all next time.”

V frowned, Uzi wasn’t normally this cold, or.. down. It was either abrupt anger or prolonged annoyance, never.. shut off. She paused as she thought of a proper way to comfort the drone, that wouldn’t result in an angsty bite. “I really want to get closer to you, but your wings are kind of in the way. Can you handle that for me?”

Uzi turned her head towards V and stared at her exasperatedly, all the while V patiently waited with no signs of letting up. Uzi rolled her eyes and nodded, dragging her wings back against the snow to make space for the disassembly drone. V smiled and immediately cuddled closer until they were both pressed against one another. V’s head rested on top of Uzi’s, one hand intertwining with the workers while the other rubbed gentle circles into her shoulder. Uzi’s wings slowly relaxed again, but this time around V, enveloping them together in a warm embrace.

For once, Uzi didn’t mind V’s warmth, affection, or closeness. In fact–she embraced it. Relished in it. The light from her nanite tail and headband illuminated and reflected off of their metal bodies, glinting in the dead of night.

“Now, for real, do you want to talk, or just relax here with me?”

Uzi leaned back and melted into V’s form, shutting her eyes. “There’s nothing to talk about.” V opened her mouth to protest, but stopped as Uzi continued talking. “Because I don’t know what’s wrong. If I did, it would be extremely useful right about now.”

Bitterness dripped off of her words, and V felt nothing but sympathy for her.

“I’m just upset. Really upset. And I have no reason to be!” Uzi’s wings raised above them slightly in exasperation, tail hissing in annoyance. “Nothings.. happened, outside of the normal at least—just a regular day. A regular week, even. And I feel like garbage. I have people who love me, people I love, people I know I can trust and talk to and.. I’m still here. Alone. Upset—robogod I’m just so frustrated!”

V moved her hand to Uzi’s thigh, gliding up and down the metal smoothly. She listened intently to the worker–her core absorbing as much as she could. “Anything else?”

Uzi’s visor glowed brighter as she blushed and stared down at the unfussed snow in front of them. “..and I guess.. you weren’t.. there—to make it feel better somehow. I just missed you. A lot—or, more than normal. Whatever.”

V pressed a kiss to the top of Uzi’s head, her embrace tightening around the worker’s frame. “I’m sorry I haven’t been around as much throughout the day, Uzi.. I’m just one text away, you know you can always reach out to me if you need it.”

Uzi sniffled again, the tears welling back up over her visor. “Y-yeah. I know.”

V closed her eyes and tucked the worker drone as close as she could be to her body. “Let it out, baby.. I’m right here. It’s just us. You and me. It’s okay.”

Uzi shut her eyes tightly, trying to push back the tears clawing at her but to no avail. She started crying again, her audio box producing occasional static as she clung onto V like a lifeline. And V didn’t move–just held the vulnerable drone in her arms like she was the only thing in the world. Her tail tenderly intertwined with Uzi’s, the nanite acid in the canister bubbling with a soothing warmth.

With time, Uzi slowly relaxed, her body’s shudders slowing down. She exhaled, tight grip on the disassembly drone loosening as she felt V gently pet her head.

“There we go, ‘Zi.. I knew you just needed a moment. Feeling better?”

She nodded while still curled up into a small ball, sniffling and wiping her visor until hands lifted up her face. Uzi’s eyelights met V’s, her gaze soft and warm. Uzi completely melted into her grasp as V’s digits rubbed the soft silicon of her cheek. She never dared to be this soft around anyone–but it was different with V. Something she never thought she’d feel. Safe.

“..you know, I did actually have a reason to be out here. There's something cool I wanted to show you. Would you come with me?”

Uzi closed her eyes and exhaled steadily, drinking in the comfort of the moment.. “Something.. cool?

“Yeah, something cool,” V grinned down at her. “Just for us. Sound okay?”

Uzi mumbled from embarrassment as she nodded. “Y-yeah.. that sounds okay. I’d.. like that.”

V gave her a smirk, tail unwinding around Uzi’s as she chuckled and pulled back to separate them. The chilly air hit both of their systems after being entangled with one another’s warmth for so long–making them quiver. V pushed herself up onto her legs, shaking out the cold like a cat would. She dusted off the flurries on her shoulders before turning to Uzi and holding out her hand. As their fingers intertwined, she pulled Uzi up until she was steady on her feet. “Then come on, ‘Zi, let’s go.”

V’s wings snapped open from the back of her ports, glinting underneath the moonlight. Uzi couldn’t help but stare for a guilty moment, hands still weaved with V’s. She bit the inside of her cheek, smiling gently up at her. “You’re.. really pretty, you know that?”

V’s screen brightened as blush lines formed over it, tail now slightly wagging behind her out of habit. The worker continued to smile softly at her until she noticed V’s expression, eyelights widening at the confession she said aloud. She quickly forced her wings to snap open as she pulled back her hand. “B-but hey! That’s stupid! And dumb! I’ll race you!!”

Without a moments notice, her wings beat down against the ground as she hurriedly took off into the night’s sky. A cloud of snow enveloped around V as she stood, flurries rapidly swirling around her. She blinked in utter confusion and embarrassment as she stared after Uzi before her eyelights widened. “Hey! You don’t even know which way we’re going??” She shouted after the worker, laughing to herself at Uzi’s nature before quickly flapping her wings downward and shooting into the sky to race after her.

As V caught up to her, she could hear Uzi’s laughter echoing in the wind, soft and gentle. She couldn’t help but smile at her, happy to see her mood lightened. She caught up to her after a moment, settling into a nice, gliding rhythm alongside her. “I didn’t tell you which way to go, idiot.”

Uzi rolled her eyes and turned her head to face V, sticking out her tongue. There were no signs of the previous breakdown she just went through–V couldn’t quite place whether it was optimism or repression. It made her feel lighter, though.

“I’m so intelligent that I didn’t need your silly directions! Did you forget I’m God? I know everything.”

“Like how we’re supposed to be going East instead of North?”

“Yes! Exactly like that—…” A small loading dial appeared in the top corner of her visor, buffering before disappearing with her eyelights widening. She very quickly veered her body towards to the left, wings catching the wind as she started to fly in the other direction.

V’s laughter echoed behind Uzi, and she was half tempted to throw herself into the local snow peaks so she wouldn’t have to face her again. Like before, V caught up to her and enjoyed the comfortable silence that sat between them as they flew hundreds of feet about the planet. Not dreary—just comforting. Gentle. She glanced to her right and studied the purple, fleshy wings Uzi had. So different from hers—yet so similar. Two sides of the same coin.

Uzi gently fiddled with her hands as they glided underneath the stars, sailing smoothly like a claw through oil. “Sooooo.. what’s this cool thing you wanna show me?”

V smiled, tilting her visor up to stare at the vibrant moons. “Just something I think you’d enjoy—you’ve talked about it before. I.. actually meant to ask you to come with me. Tonight—anyway. That was the plan.”

Uzi smiled softly and stared downward at the frozen-blasted trees and large landscapes. She wasn’t used to being so loved, at least openly. Being this vulnerable around someone was worrisome—but also made her feel some sort of safety. A warmth. One that overtook the fears of potential pain.

Uzi knew V felt the same, too, just in a different way. V never had the chance to be vulnerable before Uzi, especially not with Cyn around. They needed one another.

“Ughhhh are we there yet?” Uzi teased, “I hate waiting.”

V rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. “Yeah yeah, impatient much? It’s not much farther—look, I see the city’s outline over there.”

Uzi looked ahead and smiled softly at the site, the city looked beautiful, even if it was all just rubble and debris stacked on top of one another. As they reached closer to the outskirts, V lowered into the sky a bit more, heading for a specific building she seemed focused on. It was the tallest out of the bunch, and also the least damaged. It was about half the size of a regular skyscraper, certain windows broken and hunched.

The constant slough of ice had casted a dusting of snow over the city, perfect and clean. Uzi followed behind V now, her focus torn between the disassembly drone and the rubble. V flared her wings out to slow herself down as she neared the top of the building, softly resting her nubs onto the floor.

She turned around as quickly as she landed, giving Uzi a reassuring smile as she held out both of her hands. Uzi copied V’s wing motions to slow down, noticing her outstretched arms and blushing. She looked away awkwardly, hiding her small smile as she grasped V’s hands within hers, holding onto them tightly. She settled with both of her boots touching the ground, the cold weather doing nothing to stop the heat from the shared contact she and V had.

Uzi tucked her wings behind her back as V’s slipped back inside their port. Uzi was still blushing as V chuckled and loosened their hands. She let go and walked over to the edge of the building, sitting down and glancing back at Uzi, an invitation dancing in her eyelights.

Uzi smiled softly, visor lighting up as she walked over and sat down crisscross next to V. The Disassembly drone leaned back onto her hands, letting her legs dangle over the building ledge.

“..wow, V, I didn’t know you liked buildings and debris so much. I wouldn’t call it cool, but we’re all into weird things, right?” She turned her head towards V to give her a cheeky grin, only for V to place her fingers up underneath Uzi’s chin and tilt it upwards.

Uzi’s eyelights widened as her jaw fell slack open. Before them was an Aurora borealis—shimmering with colors that blended together. It danced in the sky, glittery and bold. Uzi was in a trance, her mouth forming into a wide smile. “V—this is.. beautiful.. when did you—“

“Ah, ah. I didn’t do anything. N—he told me about it. You mentioned it once or twice, I figured I’d be nice.”

Uzi’s eyelights slid over to V’s face, a genuine, joyful expression on her visor as her tail thumped faintly against the ground. “It’s so beautiful.”

V returned the smile, unable to help how giddy her girlfriend made her. “I knew you’d like it.”

Uzi turned her attention back to the sky up above, hands fidgeting as her body bounced slightly at the excitement of it all. “Do you know how they’re formed? It’s a bunch of weird science stuff humans discovered–when the sun creates energy it releases these charged particles or whatever. Sometimes the particles get channeled down to a planet’s poles from changes in the atmosphere, and the reaction from the two causes light energy like this! Oh my robogod we are so lucky to see this!” She raised her arms above her head in excitement, giggling to herself.

V sat up, pulling her knees to her chest so she could rest her head in her hand. She studied Uzi as she talked, watching the way her eyes sparkled when she got overly excited about a certain fact. The aurora borealis was above them, but all V could focus on was Uzi. The night sky–it reflected so beautifully against the worker’s visor.

It was like a mirror, but underneath it was Uzi’s personality. Her raw, unfiltered emotions. Her vulnerability mixed with the softness of the lights in the sky melted something inside of her core. The reflected colors were slightly dimmed on her visor, but perfect. She was absolutely perfect. V smiled, just staring at her in awe, words long lost to her.

“And that’s why—“ Uzi looked over at V in the middle of her sentence before suddenly pausing, realizing V was doing nothing but simply staring at her. She stuttered over her words a bit, unable to regain her focus before burying her hands into her face from sheer embarrassment. “Veeeee stop! That’s so gross!”

V held her chassis and laughed, not expecting the sudden, heart-melting reaction from the worker drone. Her laughter died down as she scooted over and pulled Uzi into a very secure hug. She squeezed her tightly, nuzzling her face into Uzi’s soft, violet hair. The worker elicited a groan, but there was no malice behind it. V chuckled as they melted into one another’s form, V’s nanite tail curling around Uzi’s torso to tug her closer. “I love you, Uzi.”

Uzi’s core skipped a beat. It wasn’t often V shared such intimate words with her–but it wasn’t unwelcome. Not even with her resistance towards ‘romance’. Uzi smiled to herself and clung onto V, sharing the moment with her. “I love you too, V.”

They stayed in silence for a while–holding one another with no signs of letting go anytime soon. As the breeze and flurries of snow cascaded around them, Uzi continued to stare into the hues of the night, brief anxiety tugging at her. She was going to resort back to her usual walls–to deal with things alone. But not tonight. “…V?”

V faintly pulled away, glancing down at her with a warm expression, gently rubbing her head. “Yeah, ‘Zi? What’s up?”

Uzi made a heavy sigh and settled her head against V’s chest. “What if it comes back again?”

V angled her head to the side in slight confusion, eyelights blinking. “If what comes back again?”

Uzi looked down into her lap, tail swishing as she fiddled with her hands nervously. “You know.. whatever.. is wrong with me—the.. sadness that keeps coming back.” She could feel the tears welling back up, leftover emotions she had yet to expel. “They call me damaged, V. Is that true?” She turned her head to look up at the disassembly drone, eyelights troubled.

V pressed a kiss to her forehead and shook her head. “First of all, there’s nothing wrong with you. Sure—you have a few screws loose,” She lifted up Uzi’s chin and smiled playfully at her. “But there’s nothing wrong with you. And you aren’t damaged, either–okay? You just run differently than other drones sometimes. That’s not damage, it’s just function. So what if it comes back? Come on ‘Zi, we killed a literal God, I don’t think a little sadness can take you down.”

Uzi giggled, the tone in her voice regaining the previous life she had earlier. She sniffled and wiped her eyes. “Y-yeah. I know, I know, it’s stupid but—you’re right.”

V nuzzled her cheek against Uzi’s, purring softly against her. “And you know I’m always going to be here, Uzi. You know that.”

Uzi slowly relaxed once more, breathing out slowly. “I’m glad you’re here, V. Really glad.”

V held onto her tightly once more, bringing out her wings to enclose them in a warm embrace. “Me too, Uzi. Me too.”

As the night turned quiet, the snow gentle and the breeze tender, they eased into one another. Scars of past, violent nights visible–but not heard. Not spoken of. Not now. The stars shimmered over them, twinkling in the atmosphere despite the occasional cloud cover. The night was cold–but their embrace was warm. Soothing. Uzi would’ve stayed out all night if she could.
