Chapter 1: consequences

Chapter Text

The moment Sharpness heard pistons retracting from under him he knew he was fucked. Maybe it was a bad idea to trap a trapper but the opportunity was just too good to pass up. He would've gotten his revenge and trap the 'best trapper' at the same time, kill two birds with one stone as they say. But he should've known that Jude was too smart for his own good.

So here he is, panicking because he spawned in Jude's base. What kind of idiot set his spawn point inside the base of the teammate he was trying to betray? Sharpness, apparently.

'Okay, keep calm.' Sharpness says internally while his whole body is still reeling from the sudden death. Since he's currently at Jude's base, he needs to get an ender chest to gain access to his back up gear set. He needs to hurry before Jude realises that Sharpness is scurrying in his base. Counting his breaths, Sharpness convinced himself he had nothing to worry about as he knew this place like the back of his hand. He quickly regeared, careful to not leave a significant trace.

In the midst of opening a chest, Sharpness could hear faint footsteps right outside Jude's residence. Shit... He knew exactly who that was. There's no way he wouldn't. Sharpness quickly splashed an invis potion and crouched as to not be heard. As he suspected, it was JudeLow. Damn it.

Sharpness planned to just... sneak past Jude but he stopped in his tracks when he noticed that the trapper was wearing a solemn expression. You would think after outsmarting one of the strongest players in the server you would be a little more happier than that. His rabbit ears were downturned, a frown plastered on his face and even the rim of his eyes were red. Curiousity took over him as he trailed Jude around to... collect information. He had more than five minutes of invis, it was the logical thing to do.

Jude opened a chest slowly, probably putting in the items he got from Sharpness. His movements seem listless and not at all like the Jude he was used to. When they first teamed up Sharpness was having trouble keeping up with Jude's fast paced actions. From collecting redstone items, to getting dragged to see the traps he already set up around the server and chatting his ear off while sketching blueprints for new traps. There was never a dull moment when they were together. So why the sudden sluggishness?

"Stupid Sharp." The sudden noise made him flinch, he thought he got discovered but Jude continued with, "For once, I thought maybe I could've trusted a teammate. Maybe I'm stupid one for even thinking that." It was clear he's only mumbling under his breath, talking to no one but himself. Unfortunately, Sharpness was there to hear it all though.

Okay, it kind of stung to hear that. Sharpness did trust Jude. Still does if he's honest with himself. It's just that... revenge is the way of his world. Get killed and kill back. He's done it before, why couldn't he do it again? But now listening to Jude's ramblings, he's contemplating on whether if his actions were warranted. He did enjoy their time together but he couldn't let go of his constant need for revenge, a neverending feeling that Jude would betray him anyway. Now that he already pressed that button, there's no way it could go back to the way it was.

Jude dragged himself to his bedroom, flopped onto his bed and sighed loudly, punching the soft mattress as he grumbled, "I gave him everything I could... What else should I have done..." Sharpness feels like maybe he was intruding on something. "I hate that dumbass. I do..." He paused before saying, "Nah, who am I fooling..." A pang of guilt struck Sharp in the gut.

He didn't know that the betrayal would have such an impact on Jude. In his perspective, Jude always seemed indifferent about their arrangement. Well... There was that one time he specifically gave his thanks to Sharpness after the tournament but he assumed that it was just because he was intoxicated off of the win. Not because he actually liked working with Sharpness. The swordmaster was under the impression that this alliance was only temporary and will eventually end as soon as there's no benefit. Coupled with the fact that he's constantly paranoid about others double-crossing him, he betrays first so that no one can betray him. It finally dawned on him that he lost a good teammate just because he was too blinded by revenge to see how well they work. So, he'll swallow his pride just this once.

As the timer on his invis was close to zero, he quickly rushed out of Jude's base as to not get caught. What can he even do to apologize to him?
