Work Text:
Tanaka gripped the handle of the hamster cage as he stepped out of his smoke-filled car, Hikaru complaining about the the fact they had to listen to 'Aitakatta' on repeat for twenty minutes while Yoshiki stayed silent as usual. Tanaka just sighs, letting the cigarette drop from his lips and to the ground as he stomps on it with his heel. He honestly had no interest in doing this right now, but Reigen had asked and he couldn’t really help but listen to him.
“This ain’t fair, why does Mob get to have it?” Hikaru huffed and crossed his arms, pouting at Yoshiki. He had brought the figure he’d won after he and Hikaru went to the cinemas for Mob.
“He asked.” Yoshiki simply responded, getting an offended gasp out of Hikaru.
“I ask as well! Ya just don’t lemme have it.”
Tanaka chuckles lightly at the chatter from the two of them, eventually telling them to settle down. He handed the hamster cage to Hikaru to shut him up, just making him look at it in pure excitement at the sight of something new.
Once they’d gotten close enough to the apartment, Reigen and Mob were both standing outside of it, waiting. Mob smiled and waved at the two boys while Reigen tilted his head at Tanaka and gave a light smirk. Tanaka had been smiling already but it just got wider.
He and Reigen were sat on the couch drinking something that Reigen had let sit in his pantry for way too long—neither of them minded, however. The three boys were sitting on the floor, Yoshiki helping Mob with homework while Hikaru blabbered on about the spirits that they’ve seen while Mob listened with fascination. Mob always looked interested, even if Hikaru was overselling his abilities.
Tanaka looked back over at Reigen, who caught his eye as if he’d been looking at him the entire time. He faltered under his gaze and took a sip to try and hide his own blush, mumbling something that he didn’t really understand. “How’s the job?” Tanaka simply queried, basically pushing Reigen’s embarrassment aside.
“As good as usual, I managed to exorcise a few spirits this week, Mob helped.. moderately.” Reigen explained, a sheen of compassion in his eyes, even if Tanaka knew he was lying. His hamster had confirmed his suspicions a few months back; Reigen was a regular human that could see spirits, that was all.
“I’m sure you did.” Tanaka didn’t mind the lying, he never did. Most of his relationships were prone to secrecy anyhow, the Company wasn’t something he could just tell people about. Especially not to Reigen, he wouldn’t want him getting involved in this; he cares about Reigen too much to let him.
“D’you think we’ll be able to have silence with just us both this weekend?” Reigen asked bravely, fidgeting with the glass in his hand, however. Tanaka looked away as if he was thinking about it before nodding, leaning back on the couch to wrap his arm around Reigen’s shoulders.
“I’ll make time for you.” He hummed, savouring the smile that grew on the other’s face. Tanaka couldn’t help but lean in and press a kiss to his lips softly; other hand going to Reigen’s waist. Reigen kissed back, cupping his cheek as they both closed their eyes. It was a nice and quiet moment—
“Eew! Can y’all kiss somewhere else? We’re still here!” Hikaru groaned, looking away dramatically while Yoshiki had his eyes focused on the floor (Progress towards Mob’s explosion went up 10%). Reigen gave a sigh before moving his hand away from his cheek. “I can’t wait for the weekend.” He’d grumbled jokingly, getting a chuckle out of Tanaka.
“Come on, why don’t we all go out for Ice cream?” Reigen said as he stood up, getting a nod from both Yoshiki and Mob, plus some excited cheering from Hikaru.
Tanaka watched everyone get ready to go and sighed contently, having absolutely no complaints with the family that he was now stuck with. (Tanaka may say that he’s ‘stuck’ with them, but he wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. He’s the happiest he’s been in years.)
