Can we keep it?

Summary:

Chloe finds a puppy

Work Text:

Rachel was exhausted after a long day's work of pretending she gave a shit about the people around her. Pretending like she didn't just want to skip school and go to the junkyard where Chloe probably resided.

The idea of laying on their broken mattress in Chloe's arms, drifting to sleep while Chloe tells her about her adventures just sounds so good. It took her a lot of courage not to lash out at the people around her who caught her slacking as she day dreamed, asking about what she was thinking. But she worked hard till the very last bell of the school day, which granted her access to run all the way to the Junkyard, finally.

But when she got to the Hide out in the Junk yard, of course nothing was as normal. The Tapestry that usually hung on the left wall was no longer there, and the lights were dim. Not to mention the heater turned on all the way so it felt like a mid summer's day in there.

It took her a minute to find chloe but when she did, she found her tucked in a corner, in her ripped jeans and her bra, sweating profuesly. (Rachel can admit she looked sexy as hell, but what the hell was she doing?) She was murmuring to herself, and moving her arm around something, her body blocked from Rachel's view.

"Chloe, what the fuck is going on?" Rachel finally had enough watching whatever weird display this was.

But chloe turned to face her with the biggest grin on her face. One full of giddiness, and purity. One that reached her eyes. Rachel's heart melted at the sight, because Chloe had never looked so purely happy since the day they met. She couldn't be mad at the taller girl even if she wanted to be.

As she stood her smile turned sheepish, and she avoided Rachel's gaze, "So, I found something..." Rachel didn't respond, what was behind chloe still blocked by her foot, "And I was hoping we could keep it." Rachel crossed her arms and squinted.

"Keep what?" She asked, a little scared now.

Chloe turned around, picking up a small, clearly malnutritioned, puppy. It was the cutest thing she had ever seen, with a short nose and big floppy ears. It grunted in Chloe's hand's and she pushed it towards Rachel.

"I mean look at her!" She whined, pulling the puppy back to her chest to cradle it, "We can't just put her back in the freezing cold." Rachel couldn't help the smirk that rose on her face.

"So that's why it's a hundred degree's in here?" She remarked.

"She was shivering!" Chloe moved to the mattress and sat on it, putting the dog on her lap, which sat there comfortably. Chloe looked down at the puppy as she pet it, it's greyish blue fur, almost blending into her jeans. She looked sad, like she didn't want to lose this puppy.

Rachel sat next to Chloe, pushing her shoulder's against her girlfriends bare ones.

"I suppose we can keep her," She said quietly, reaching out to pet the dog too. She was surprisingly soft for being a stray, "But she is your responsibility." Rachel goes to school everyday, unlike Chloe, so she can't do much in watching the poor thing.

Chloe's smile was wide when she looked back at Rachel, "I already have a plan."

"Oh boy." The two laughed laying down together, enjoying the warmth, that contrasted from the freezing temperatures outside.
