Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

Astral Industries had been one of the biggest companies in Torrance since it was founded by Robert Robertson the First.  Now the company spanned several industries, contained several subsidiaries/daughter companies, and employed tens of thousands of happy workers.  Robert Roebrtson the Second had laid the foundation for this, but it was really his son who had taken things above and beyond what anyone could have imagined.

Though his father had refused to retire and let him take on the CEO role.  It took his passing for Robert to inherit the company, and it flourished faster than ever under his management.

The youngest Robertson had many successful initiatives and new policies over the years, and his latest idea was a reward for the best worker in each department.

As he explained on a pre-recorded video to be shown to all Astral Industries employees, the winner in each department would receive a hefty bonus, as well as extra paid vacation time.

It wasn’t the offer of either of those things that interested a certain group of employees.  Rather, it was the fact that he had also shown in the video that the third prize was something he stated to be a far less interesting reward.

Something in a small, black box.

Though he had been referring to a small reward pin he had only added as a cute little gesture, that certain group of employees had mistaken it as something they craved far more than anything else.

An engagement ring.  And they weren’t about to let anyone else win such a prize.

While his plan was working better than he had intended, and performances improved all across the board, he didn’t realize just what chaos this would bring.
