When water wanes

Notes:

This is a rough draft, so please keep in mind it is subjugated to change

Chapter Text

It had been a while since you went back to camp. For long periods of time you lived in the Pandora outback.
You sighed as you wet your neck with the cool water.
“What a day.” You look up to the sunset. The stars showing, the silence that came. You mask hissed as you exhale.

You were told you were crazy to camp outside, with all the creatures and other stuff that could kill you out here. But, you never found a reason to fear nature. You respected Eywa, as a Pandoran xenobiologist.
In your lecture you were told that Pandora was unfeeling, but you didn’t believe that. This planet and everything around it was connected. So you being an outsider, you have to respect to be respected.

You took tiny samples with your gloves and gown, making sure to bring any trash that you brought with you. Littering anywhere was bad. It was especially bad on a planet that could kill you without a second thought.

You heard the crunch of leaves, you swirled and mixed the concoction you were testing. As long as you didn’t provoke anything you would be fine.
“Who’s there?” The sound of a na’vi native spoke up. Your ears perked at the voice, this could be your chance to use it.
“I am not here to hurt. My hands are up.” You place your hands up. Dropping the connection on the ground, it was not worth it to die for a single plant.
From the shadows a na’vi male emerged. From the sounds of it. He was alone.
“Can I turn?”
He nodded.
If you were to die, you wouldn't fight it. You understood that you were the intruder, this is their land. There must be a balance to be maintained.
When you turned. You saw that the na’vi male had 5 fingers.
“Avatar?”
He shook his head. “Who are you?” He asked.
“I am Rena Sully. Masters in Xenobiology with a minor in Pandoran culture and language.”
The male shrugged, you don't know why you told him. It's not like he would know what any of that means.
“Right… anyways. I'm not here to hurt.”
The boy furrowed his brows. “Sully?”
You nodded.
He pointed at you. “You come with me.”
You nodded your head. “Can I stand and grab my stuff?”
He nodded.
You scramble to your feet and grab your stuff. You follow as fast as you can behind him. You had to basically run, his walk was 5 of your steps.

He didn’t talk and you didn’t push it. You just looked around and were amazed with all the new plants and vegetation growing.
“Wow.” You sighed. That wow shorty became run! As you spotted the glint of a rifle.
The male dragged you up by the arm. With the sudden jerk, you were sure you dislocated your shoulder as you heard the pop. You had no time to scream as you were currently being shot at. The young male basically lifted you and put you on his shoulder. That eased the pain, but every jostle hurt.

By the time you were out of reach, you made it to a wall of trees.
“What do we do?”
He put you on his back. “Hold on.”
You nodded, without screaming you wrapped your arms around his neck. Your bit back a yelp.
“On?” You nod.
The next 10 minutes were hell. Every time he went between branches your arm pulled.

After we landed. We made it to a small camp. There were two young girls and another male. In the corner. There was a grown female and a grown male in the corner.
“Neteyam, what is this?” The female called out. She had her spear out. Well this is where you're definitely going to die.
He placed you on the ground. The children came close, but their mother pushed them back. The adult male said nothing but watched.
“Hello, I am Rena Sully. A xenobiologist. I mean no harm.” this time you felt your heart was going to hammer out of your chest. It was becoming harder and harder to think straight.
“Sully?,” her eyebrows furrowed. There was a small look of recognition, but confusion in the mix.“MaJake?”
The male came closer, his eyebrows too furrowed. “Did you say sully? The male repeated.
