Adam tried to sleep, the nightmares kept him from sleeping comfortably. Michael had allowed him to do things normally. Even if Adam didn't have to sleep or even eat, he still wanted too. Michael had pushed his essence away so Adam could have a normal life, at least, enough while being possessed by a powerful angel.
Michael watched Adam struggle in his sleep. He wanted to reach out and wake Adam, but remained near him just in case.
Fifteen minutes had gone by, and Adam's eyes flashed open and he scrambled up, grasping for the blankets. His words were mumbled, and his gaze found Michael almost instantly when the angel reached out to touch his hand.
"Cage…Michael…Michael!" Adam gasped, shaking unbearably from the fear as Michael sat on the bed and held Adam carefully. He was able to appear mostly solid for Adam when they shared a body, their consciousness weren't attached completely. Not the way others would see them. It was a good thing it was just them inside the motel room.
"Shh…it was a nightmare, you're not in the cage any longer," Michael reassured him.
Adam continued to gasp, squeezing Michael's hand. "I was there…I was…there…"
"You were, and so was I," Michael told him softly. "You are not there anymore. We are here, together…I'm not going to leave you alone."
Adam squeezed his eyes closed, shuddering for the rest of the night until he finally relaxed by sunrise.
"Are you alright now?" Michael murmured as Adam leaned against him.
"I'm okay," Adam whispered. "I'm okay…I'm okay. We're okay…we're alive. We're not in the cage."
"Not in the cage," Michael agreed, pressing a kiss to the top of Adam's tousled hair. "We're together. Always."
