Do You Think You're Ready When I Go Unsteady?

Summary:

After Rex 'back to the future'd, in his own terms, he expected nothing to exist. He wouldn't be anything.

Instead he had opened his eyes to a desert, one that's extremely familar, the fallen buildings around him familiar as well, the one of what was home to him for a few years. Instead of the nothing he expected, he's back in his 'home' timeline. His best assumption of why he's here is that this is hell, his punishment for who he became.

or

Rex isn't actually gone and now he's back in his home timeline (even if he doesn't believe thats the case) and now deals with whatever that means for him

Notes:

Hello folks!!
We're once again writing, as to be expected from us (mostly joking)
This time its a lego move fic (our fandoms are all over the place, our last fic posted was a dispatch fic, now it's lego movie, sigh)

Anyways!!
We recently rewatched the second movie (like half way through writing this but shhhh) and got the first and second game when they were on sale so we got heavily inspired to write this!

Yeah it's kinda your usual "Rex goes back to his timeline" fic because theyre fun. But uhh, we can slap so many headcanons into this bad boy so hey! It'll hopefully be somewhat unique?

Anyways!
Have fun reading this! Thank you for choosing our fic to read!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

After Rex 'back to the future'd, in his own terms, he expected nothing to exist. He wouldn't be anything.

Instead he had opened his eyes to a desert, one that's extremely familar, the fallen buildings around him familiar as well, the one of what was home to him for a few years. Instead of the nothing he expected, he's back in his 'home' timeline. His best assumption of why he's here is that this is hell, his punishment for who he became.

He couldn't actually be in his time. He's done too much to deserve even seeing his own timeline again. He shouldn't have any regrets on his actions, he did them so that his past self wouldn't be hurt the way he was, though he did try to cause that pain when Emmet hadn't started to become more like him. Instead he caused the end of the world, even if it had been stopped by those in that time.

So hell is the only logical option of his current situation, though being sent to the desert of Apocalypsburg instead of to Undar is strange. He'd expect hell to torture him with watching his friends... no, his former friends, enjoy themselves, while he's stuck on Undar. Forever watching, forever hoping that they'd come to even try to find him.

Rex puts his hands into his hair, it feels more real than it has since before he was trapped in Undar. He pulls at it while looking around. He's frustrated, angry even, though that much is obvious to himself. It's the only thing he's really felt since leaving Undar. That's not true, he's felt so much regret and pain from being abandoned, that maybe if he had changed before, that he wouldn't have been abandoned by those he had once loved.

While looking around he notices a few things.
There's a lot of ruins around here, less so Apocalypsburg but the remains of Bricksburg.
Nobody is around. He could break them.
Nobody would know.
Let off some steam. Try to calm himself down. Try to reduce the anger the pain in himself to get somewhere from here.

He lets go of his own hair, the pain from pulling at it slowly subsiding. He steps over by one, likely an old apartment by the look of it. He tightens his fists before throwing his punch, putting not only his actual strength behind it but his Master Breaking into it.

He immediately covers his ears after, the breakage noise being way louder than he expected. And the desert only amplifying it. He takes a deep breath, looking at the ruins, well they are definitely ruined now.

He looks around, breaking the ruined apartment, what he assumes was an apartment at the very least, somewhat helped. And gave him a bit more knowledge, he's still able to master break things.

Maybe he isn't actually in hell, maybe he is back in his timeline. No, no he definitely is. There's nowhere else he could be, he doesn't deserve anywhere else with his actions, with all those he hurt. But if he isn't in hell, maybe he could see his friends again. Maybe they didn't mean to leave him, maybe they miss him as much as he misses them.

He feels something tap him on the shoulder, flinching back and kicking the thing or person away. He notices his breath is very shaky, is he panicking?

Then he notices the person, they're very pink, with bits of red on them, though the pink is also a very red heavy shade. With a horn on their head and a more cat-like body. Oh, oh he recognizes them. It's Unikitty, though she looks different than the last time he saw her. He watches her brush herself off from the dust.

"Wow there mister!! My bad for scaring you!" Unikitty smiles at him. "We got off on a bad foot there! Me and my friends heard a very loud boom, decided one of us should investigate, and I went looking for the source of the noise. That's when I found you! I'm Unikitty!! What's your name, mister?"

Rex blinks, he had forgotten how loud and cheerful Unikitty could be at times. Gotten so used to the almost always angry version of her from Apocalypsburg. Though she doesn't seem to be the exact same as before that. "... Rex, that's my name."

"Well, Rex! It's so very nice to meet you! What are you doing out here?" Unikitty stares up at him. Rex looks away from her almost piercing gaze. What does he even say? Tell her the truth? That'd be crazy, she'd probably not even believe him. Plus he's so scared to tell her, what if she just abandons him here after finding out?

"Just... destroying stuff, I guess?" Way to go, Rex! Perfect, she's going to ask more questions now. All he can hope for is that he's wrong on that. "What are you and... you said you're with your friends. What are you all doing out here?" He looks at her. Noticing the fact she has a side pouch, likely filled with supplies.

"We're looking for people, we took it upon ourselves to help find anybody who doesn't know about the abandonment of the old Apocalypsburg." Unikitty looks around before looking back at Rex. "Since us and the Systar System have now become almost like one place! We want to help find folks who are lost?"

Rex tenses at the mention of the Systar System, they're why he lost his friends. They brainwashed his friends, though after what happened in the other timeline, he's unsure if it was really brainwashing. Now they're how they were before he left. Guess it really is hell. "I see... have you found anybody else today?"

"Not really? You see, most folks know by now. We only do this once a week, maybe once every other week, at this point? A lot of the others starting to feel like we won't find anybody else now?" Unikitty rubs one of her front leg with the other one. "But I found you! So I did find somebody this week at the least! Can I take you back to my friends? You look somewhat tired?"

Rex thinks about this. An opportunity to see his friends his former friends again. He doesn't have to stay with them for long. Maybe just long enough to get the resources to leave and live by himself again, maybe to get a working time travel machine to get his raptors back, since going back for revenge again will probably just end with him failing again. He sighs. ".. can't believe im saying this," mumbling under his breath. "Yeah, yeah that'd be great!"

He watches as Unikitty's face lights up. "Oh boy, yay! You'll like them! They're all really cool and really nice!!" She pauses for a moment. "Oh wait, lemme give you this." She opens the satchel that Rex noticed earlier, using her magic to grab a small wrapped item and a water. "Here, it's some food and water. Don't know how long you've been out here."

Rex takes the food and water, opening the wrapped food, it's a sandwich. Pretty basic, just some bread with turkey and cheese. He takes a bite as he follows Unikitty. It actually does taste pretty good, for a basic sandwich. He looks around at the landscape as they walk, just taking it all in.

He looks down at Unikitty. He had noted how her fur seemed a more red shade of pink with spots of red in it. She looked a lot like she did in Apocalypsburg, though with closer to the size she was when they first met in Cloud Cuckoo Land. He's curious if she's still able to go to Ultrakitty size.

Cloud Cuckoo Land, and everything that came after, was truly a lifetime ago. Back when he was still just naive Emmet. Before he hardened his heart and himself. Before he saw how this world truly was like. Back when things were simpler.

He finishes the sandwich, downing the water pretty fast. He hadn't noticed how hungry or thirsty he had felt until it went away, though he stopped noticing how his body gave him any form of signals from his brain after Undar. He holds onto the now empty bottle and the wrapper that was around the sandwich.

"You'll be able to toss your garbage when we get back to the ship, Rex." Unikitty breaks the silence.

Rex nods, very subtly. "Good to know. Think they'll have coffee?... I could use one."

Unikitty goes to talk but then pauses. Before speaking up. "Maybe nothing made but there's a coffee pot on the ship so we can make some for you!"

Rex smiles to himself. "Good. As I said, I can use a cup or seven." He chuckles.

That earns him a scowl from Unikitty. "It's bad enough that Benny and Wyldstyle both survive on almost purely coffee, I don't need a third person joining then in that!"

"I was kidding! I just, I really need a coffee." Rex sighs. "I promise I won't drink seven cups of coffee." It felt weird promising something to somebody again. Especially to one of his former friends. But if his memory of Unikitty is correct, she'll appreciate him saying that.

"Good! We're almost there, so you can have your coffee soon! And you better keep to your promise, mister Rex! I take promises very seriously!" Unikitty's scowl not leaving her face quite yet.

"I won't. Now, how many other people will be there? You've mentioned your friends but not how many?" Rex needs to know for his own sanity, if he'll be able to handle it all. "I don't do to well in larger groups." Not entirely the truth, he used to thrive with large groups even if they didn't like him all that much, but since everything in Undar, larger groups make him anxious.

"Glad you asked!! Obviously me! You have Wyldstyle, she's kind of like our leader? She'd never admit that to you of course but, I think of her that way. She's the best." Rex watches as Unikitty seems to be happier as she talks about their her friends. "Then you have Benny, he's very energetic! He likes spaceships, but he's also incredibly smart!"

"You have Metalbeard, he's definitely interesting, but I think he's a great friend. There's Batman, who's very broody, but since he married Watevra, he's definitely a bit less brooding. Not by much, don't tell him I said that either. Finally, a newer edition to our little friend group, is Sweet Mayhem. She wanted to join us to help us find people. She's pretty cool, her and the rest of the Systarians had wanted to be our friends for so long. So I think it's great to get to know them now." Unikitty looks up at Rex, "I went on for a while there! Sorry!!"

"It's alright. So its you and five other people. I should be alright?" Rex knows that he probably won't be. Its all the people who had left him behind and somebody who he blames for it. But he can't tell Unikitty that. Maybe before he tried to end the universe in that other timeline, he would've. But part of him feels like how he used to be. More soft, less angry. He feels tired, mainly. Why does his mind have such contradicting thoughts?

"That's good! Because we're at the ship!" Unikitty heads ahead, Rex following her with his eyes. Seeing a decently large ship, with Lucy, or Wyldstyle, her hair just like the other one that he met in the other timeline, at the doors to the airlock. And the two of them talking.

Rex flinches a bit when he watches her eyes flicker up to look at him. Will she be able to see through his look? Will she realize who he is? Will she be angry? Does she hate him as much as he hates himself? And she's walking over to him, he steels himself and takes a deep breath.

Rex looks at the ground, before up again, and now he's almost face to face with Lucy. Who started speaking, "Unikitty told me she found what was the source of that boom we heard. And found you out there."

Rex nods. He sighs. "Yeah, that was me. I didn't realize I'd be so loud. I should thank her for the sandwich and water." He mumbles the last part.

"Well it's good to find somebody... we really haven't found anybody in a while? She may have told you that though," she rubs the back of her neck, "How about we get you inside the ship. We're packing up and heading back at Syspocalypstar. Just waiting on Metalbeard to get back from his search."

Rex nods. "Then I guess I got quite lucky being found when I did?"

Lucy chuckles, oh how Rex has missed that sound. "Yes, yes you did. Now, what's your name? I forgot to ask, mine's Lucy. Though I also go by Wyldstyle."

"It's E– R-Rex." Rex can't believe he almost just called himself Emmet. He also can't believe how almost calm he feels. He should be angry, at Lucy and everybody else. However could they just act so happy when he isn't there, that they didn't search for him. But, it seems like they're looking for people, maybe they've been searching for him. Maybe they didn't abandon him. Maybe he can just be honest with them?

"It's nice to meet you then, Rex." Rex can feel how Lucy's eyes look him up and down. Does she know? Before he can panic too hard, she speaks again, "Cool vest there."

Rex nods. "Thank you." Okay, weird but he does think his own vest is pretty cool so he'll accept the compliment. The longer he spends here, the less he feels like he's in hell. "Oh, quick question. Could I have some coffee?"

Another chuckle from Lucy, "yes. Yes you can Rex. Come with me, I think we still have a pot brewing. With plenty of things to add to it to make it however you like."

Rex finds himself following after Lucy as she heads into the ship. He really can't believe himself for being able to talk to Lucy so easily. She abandoned him, how can he be so calm? She did always have that effect to him, calming him down when he'd freak out. No matter how badly he did.

"Oh sweet, Benny made a new pot. Come on, Rex. Let's get a cup before Benny decides he wants the whole pot of coffee." Lucy chuckles as Rex looks over at her, watching her grab two cups, pouring coffee into both. Handing one over to Rex. "Feel free to add whatever you want to yours by the way. We keep so much for coffee and hot chocolate here. I've seen Unikitty make an unholy abomination of coffee and hot chocolate, and drink the whole thing. I won't judge."

Rex takes the mug, looking down at the black coffee. Now if he was honest with himself, he still hates black coffee. He tried so hard to like it, but he hates how it tastes, no matter how hard he tries to like it. He sighs softly, grabbing a few sugar packets, a few being generous, he grabs closer to 20 or so. He pours them into his mug, grabbing a stirrer and stirring it into his coffee.

Rex takes a sip, there we go, it actually tastes good now. He smiles softly to himself. Maybe it's too close to his coffee order when he was still Emmet, but he's not suffering through an entire mug of black coffee to not seem so suspicious.

Rex looks over at Lucy, who was just drinking her coffee, he doesn't know if she put anything in it. Not that he entirely cares, he has his coffee and that's enough right now.

It takes Rex finishing his entire mug, and making a second one the same way, before he notices that it's not just him and Lucy in this little kitchen space. There's another person there, he takes a good look at them. Their hair is an iridescent blue shade, up in pigtails. With a white space suit.

Unluckily for Rex, they notice him staring. "Oh hello there!" They wave at him. "You must be who Unikitty found out there."

Rex nods. "Yes, I am. Name's Rex." He has an inkling of who this is. The white space suit giving him ideas.

"Mine's Sweet Mayhem! Though I'm often called General Mayhem. It's nice to meet you!" Sweet Mayhem smiles at him.

"Yeah, back at you." Rex takes a shaky breath, deciding to clean the mug he used. It was in fact who he thought she was. He can feel his own heart beat faster as he washes the mug, not wanting to look at her, pretending he can't feel how she's looking at him. Though he can feel two sets of eyes on him, and there's definitely noise, likely talking. It's probably Lucy and Sweet Mayhem talking, he's not paying attention.

Rex can't pay attention. If he does, he'll likely break down get angry. He doesn't want to get angry right now, he feels to stay calm so he can make it elsewhere to rebuild his ship, being able to leave after that. He sets the now cleaned cup into the drying rack by the sink, just standing there now.

A deep breath in, and out. And another one. Rex sighs softly to himself. Calmer, not freaking out as badly. He looks over at Lucy, ignoring the face she has. "Question, is there anywhere I could go to relax for a bit? The desert has been, a lot?"

Rex sees her nod and start giving him directions. He pays attention enough to get them and then heads out of the room, "Hey, thanks for telling me. And for the coffee." He leaves the little kitchen room, heading to where she told him. He was probably going to sit there and keep to himself while they're on the way to Syspocalypstar.

✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦

Rex opens his eyes, he hadn't slept at all, probably the two cups of coffee. But he did close his eyes so maybe the others wouldn't bother him, which they hadn't. He looks around the room, which was a lounge room, though was told this one was a smaller one and there was a second one. Luckily, he's alone in the room. He looks at the window in the room, seeing how the stars pass by. They must've left the planet then.

Not that he minds. He hadn't really been paying attention to anything for a bit now. Letting himself just sit and exist for a bit. They'll likely land soon enough, meaning he'll be able to make his escape. He'd feel bad for using his former friends kindness if he wasn't feeling so many other emotions all swirled up together inside him.

He's only seen half of the people that Unikitty had talked about, including herself. He's not sure if he wants to talk to the others but it's good to note that. The less people that he talks to, the easier slipping away will be. If he was being honest though, he doesn't want to leave. He wants things to go back to before he was in Undar. He wants his friends back, so badly. He misses them so dearly.

Rex sighs, stupid thoughts, looking at the ceiling. They picked a nice grey to make most of the ship, it's nice. The accent colors look nice as well. He closes his eyes again. It'll be easy to find a place to make a new ship as long as he doesn't get too close to his former friends. As long as he doesn't talk to them too much.

"Hey, Rex right?" Rex opens his eyes, looking over at where the voice came from. It was Benny. Though he notices how Benny's eyes seem more focused than he ever remembers them being.

Rex nods. "Yeah, that's me. And you are?"

"Benny, name's Benny. Could I sit with you?"

Rex chuckles softly. "Sure thing. Not doing anything anyways." He looks away from Benny, this isn't helping him trying to convince himself to properly leave once they get to Syspocalypstar.

"Alright!" Rex watches Benny sit down next to him, the couch cushion not even dipping down to his body weight.

"Are you sure you're sitting down?" Rex knows why the couch cushion didn't even dip down with Benny on it. He's always noticed how Benny seems to be able to float around even in areas with gravity.

"Oh yeah!! I'm just not affected by gravity! Never have been really? Well, never was after something that happened? It's all in the past now so it doesn't matter. And it's a long story and I don't want to bore you with the details." Benny chuckles. That was new information for Rex, he didn't know anything had happened to cause this to Benny.

"Ah, I see. Real interesting though. So why are you even checking on me?" Rex was curious if somebody sent Benny his way to check on him or not.

"Well Lucy told me you'd be here. But I decided to come say hey. Especially since, according to her, you've been in here since half an hour before takeoff? We're probably about an hour out from being at Syspocalypstar, roughly, so I wanted to come say hey and meet you." Benny looks out the window, Rex following where his eyes go. "That and I was told I needed to go take a break from driving the ship."

"So you got kicked from the cockpit and came to see the stranger?" Rex smirks, though shocked to hear that Benny listened to somebody kicking him from the cockpit.

"If you want to put it that way Rex, sure! I don't really mind. It's nice to meet you, and see that our efforts of searching for people isn't a total waste like Ba- some of the others think it is." Benny sighs.

Everybody has been saying it's nice to meet him, but Rex cannot believe that everytime he hears it. "Huh..." He doesn't have much else to say. Just sitting in the silence with Benny. He starts to mess with his glove, feeling the leather of it against his fingers.

"So yeah!" Rex flinches a bit at the silence being interrupted. "It's nice to meet you, Rex." Rex looks over at Benny, who's now looking at him.

Rex was never great at reading people but it's obvious there's a slight sadness to how Benny is looking at him. "Nice to meet you too, Benny."

"Well, I'm going to go grab a cup of coffee. Feel free to explore the ship before we land. You've been holed up in the small lounge the whole time." Benny gets up from the couch.

Rex nods, "Yeah, Yeah I'll think about it. See you." If he's smart, he won't. But he doesn't want that, he wants to stay with his friends so badly. But they probably won't like how he is now. Yes he toughened up like they wanted, but he's awful now, miserable to be around most likely.

Rex watches Benny leave the room. He sighs, getting up and stretching. He could go explore. He is curious about how the ship looks, could use some inspiration for his own once he rebuilds it. Maybe make it less recognizable if he is able to hop through time again.

Guess it's time for him to explore.

✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦

Rex thinks the ship is well made, even if it's no Rexcelsior, he really misses his ship right about now. Especially his crew of raptors. He looks out a window, seeing the city, that the group keeps mentioning, come into view. They're likely to land down soon. Meaning he'll be able to slip away soon. Or somewhat soon, he's sure there's probably procedures they have in place. But after that, he'll slip away.

He heads back to the lounge he found himself in about an hour earlier. He sits back down the couch. He rather wait here while they land than having to interact with them when they do so. He's likely got to after they land so it's easier for himself he spends the time before, by himself.

Rex watches out the window in the lounge, using that time to think about what he'll do after he sneaks away. Rebuild his ship, in some form. After that, who knows. Maybe he'll hide for the rest of his life. Never seen any of his former friends faces ever again. Be completely and utterly alone of his own doing instead of it being done by accident. He could stay, make a new life here. Tell his friends who he is. Tell them what happened. How he's so angry, but also so very scared.

His thoughts get interrupted by a soft knocking on the doorframe. He looks over at the doorframe, Lucy standing in it, leaning against the doorframe. "Hey Rex, we just docked. We got a few things to have you file before we can let you loose. Along with making sure any friends or family you have can collect you, or at least know you're here."

If that didn't tug at his heart, Rex doesn't know what would. He nods. "Yeah, I'll do the paperwork or whatever. After that?"

"Free to go! Though if you don't have anywhere to go..." Rex watches Lucy looking around for a bit, before speaking up again. "My place has an extra room you can borrow for a bit while getting back on your feet."

Rex looks at her, confused, but willing to bite, even if he plans to decline. "You offer that to just anybody?" The tone comes out way more flirty than he had intended.

Lucy chuckles. "Not really, but you look like you could use it. Though I could be completely reading you wrong and you're actually a social butterfly who doesn't need the help."

Rex chuckles softly, smirking. "Well, I wouldn't say that! Thanks for the offer. Don't know if I can accept it, but thank you anyways."

"Rex, I'm offering you a room, no obligations tied to it. I just want to help."

"Well, thanks. Really Lucy, I thank you." Rex sighs softly. Why does she make it so hard to decline offers? All he wants to do is say yes and tell her everything, tell her that he's missed her, beg her to never leave him again.

"Well, after you file your paperwork, we can talk about my offer more." Lucy gets out of her lean. "Follow me to leave the ship."

Rex gets up, following after her. Just do the paperwork they ask of him and then he can leave, that's all he has to do now. He's so close to being able to leave them all behind. Why does that thought make his heart ache so much?

Stepping out of the ship is odd, Syspocalypstar is quite bright from what he can see. However the docking bay isn't that bright compared to a lot of the city. He follows Lucy to a table with some paperwork on it. "Here, for you to do." She slides the chair out for him.

Rex sits down and grabs the pencil on the table. He forgot how much he hates anything related to paperwork until just now. He sighs, filling it out. Being careful to remember to fill it out as Rex Dangervest, and not the part of him that still feels like Emmet Brickowski. Wouldn't that be disastrous if he filled it out that way.

Once he got to the question related to if he has anybody who's likely looking for him, he answers it with a no. It seems untrue now. It almost seems like the whole searching for people is so they have an excuse to look for him.

Rex looks up at Lucy once he was done. "Done with filling it out. So about your offer?"

Lucy takes the paper, looking over it quickly, Rex notices how her hands tremble just a bit. "Right, yeah. My offer, you can crash in my guest room until you can figure out what you're doing."

Rex thinks about that for a moment. It could be nice, even if it means he's spending more time with his former friends. It'd give him a roof and bed until he gets his ship built. Which may help him get it built faster. "You know what, sure. I think it's a good idea. I could use the bed until I figure out what I'm going to do, so sure."

"Really?!" Lucy sounded like she was shocked. Rex guesses she probbaly is. "I mean, great. You and me can head that way now if you'd like. Unikitty lives there too but I think she has plans so she's probably not joining us heading there."

Rex tries to not show his surprise at the fact Unikitty is living with Lucy. Like how it was with the house that he had made, as Emmet, for the three of them. For their happy little family.

"Yeah, sounds great. I probably could use the rest in an actual bed once the caffeine wears off." Rex chuckles.

"Fair enough. Look, tomorrow, we can go shopping for anything you'll need. Let's go." Lucy smiles at him. Oh, that's the smile he wanted to see for so very long.

"Sounds fantastic. But that's tomorrow Rex's problem. Today's Rex wants to head there and lay down in an actual bed." Rex looks away from Lucy. Sure it'll make it harder to sneak away but it will mean he doesn't have to worry about where he's sleeping until he makes his spaceship.

✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦

Now when Lucy had said she had a spare room he could use. Rex wasn't expecting the house that she lived in to be an almost perfect replica of the one he had made, it's definitely larger, with more space for an extra room or two and a larger living room and kitchen.

Rex looks around. "Looks nice." He does think it looks nice, maybe a tad sentimental, with how close it looks to the one he had made all those years ago. "So, where's the guest room you said I can stay in for now?"

"Right, follow me." Lucy brings Rex to a room, opening the door. "My room is just the next door. The bathroom is across the hall. If you need anything, just knock on my door. I'll grab a pair of pajamas for you to wear... you're about his size so they'll likely fit you." Rex notices how Lucy mumbles the ending of that statement.

"Great. I'll be in the room then." Rex opens the door to the guest room, heading in. "And thanks again, Lucy." He looks at her, a soft smile on his face. One that's almost so very Emmet, he knows he shouldn't act anything like his past self, it'll make his identity obvious. However, he can't help himself, his emotions just almost flowing out of him around her.

Rex closes the door, looking around the guest room as he tries to not scream. He shouldn't have smiled like that. He can't be who he used to be anymore. Oh but the idea of Lucy loving him like she had before fills him with a sad warmth. Could she love him when he is like this, with who he is now?

Rex takes a deep breath. The room is nice. Simple, incredibly so, but that's fine. Certainly nicer than just being out in the middle of nowhere that he'd likely be in if he didn't accept Lucy's offer.

He's got a roof and a bed for now. Which will make being able to remake his ship, without worry about sleep or anything, much easier. Once he's rebuilt it, he can leave. Go do whatever he wants, wherever he wants.

But he could also stay. Doesn't have to reveal anything right away. But he could stay with his former friends. He's been pushing the idea away but he's still so angry. But that anger isn't really anger, he's starting to realize. It's more so fear. He sighs. He can decide what to do later. He had been so set on leaving, but his contradicting thoughts are making him second guess if he does.

A knock on the door has Rex looking over at the door. He opens it, Lucy standing with some pajamas. "I said I'd grab you some pajamas. Be careful with them, don't destroy them." Lucy hands them to him.

Rex takes them, he looks at her. "Yeah, yeah of course. I'll be careful." He looks down at the pajamas, oh these are definitely one of his own pairs. Well his own being when he was Emmet. Still, they're his. "Thank you, again, really." Saying thank you felt so weird now, but he was honestly just so tired at this point. "Night."

Rex closes the door before Lucy can say anything more. Maybe a bit more rude than he should be, but he needs to just sit and try to not break down? Maybe put on the pajamas too, they're still almost as soft as he remembers them.

Rex quickly changes out from his current clothes, they'll likely need to be washed which is a whole other thing, into the pajamas. They feel nice. He notices theres a mirror in the room, looking at himself in it.

It's strange, it feels like Emmet is staring back at him when he looks at himself in the mirror. He knows it's him, Rex. Sure he and Emmet are the same person, but it doesn't feel that way anymore.

Oh, he looks tired. He can see the eye bags under his eyes, had those been there the entire time. He wipes under his eye where they are, they're real. They're not drawn on or fake or anything along those lines. Has he always looked that tired?

Rex sighs, he should probably just lay face down in the bed until he can get to sleep. At least then he can hopefully stop all the thoughts that are giving him a headache for at least a few hours. He stretches, yawning. Looks like the caffeine is starting to wear off, getting some sleep sounds pretty nice right about now.

Rex goes to the bed, sitting down on it. He stares at the ceiling, similarly to how he did back in the ship. Still being alive, or existing, is strange. He hadn't planned for that when he failed to make that past version of himself into him. Maybe this could be a good thing for him. He could try to just exist, no plans for revenge or anything. Maybe he could be happy again.

Who's he kidding? He doesn't believe thats in the cards for him, not now at the very least. Especially not when he's still around his former friends. Though just maybe, he's wrong, maybe he can actually be happy even here. Part of him hopes so, a part he buried so deep, he didn't realize it still existed.

Absolutely exhausted, Rex lays back onto the bed. He grabs the blanket, placing it over himself. He's going to get some sleep, maybe it'll help make him not consider staying here. He shouldn't, but he wants to. Such contradicting thoughts, hopefully he'll sort his mind out soon.
