Work Text:
“Come ooooooon, it’ll compliment your looks even more than they’re already complimented!”
“My looks are badass enough as they are.”
Tsuno… Honestly had no idea what she was looking at here.
She walked into the school library to see what new novels she could enjoy, only to see the peculiar sight of Watari and Hama bickering while Wada was kneeling on the ground searching for something, grumbling and muttering under her breath while doing so.
“What’d you drop?” Tsuno approaches her sister first, she loves Hama but she is not getting in the middle of one of him and Watari’s debates again, not after the matchmaking incident.
Wada glances up, a sheepish look instantly appearing on her face. “Oh uh, Ran dropped something so I’m trying to look for him.”
Well that was sweet of her! “What was it?” Two people searching is better than one person searching, but Wada’s silence is concerning a little. “Masa?”
“Ummmm it’s uhhhh-” She trails off, like she’s trying to fish for an excuse but gives up and turns to Hama. “Can I tell her what you dropped?”
That’s how the demonologist realizes she’s in the room, his face turning a slight crimson red. “Hey.” He mumbles out, looking adorable as ever.
“Hey.” She says back with a smile. “Whatever you lost, I promise I’m not gonna judge.”
That seemed to reassure him but unfortunately a certain fire dancer beats him to the punch. “Manamiiiiii~ you agree with me that your boyfriend would look good in glasses, right?” There’s a sharp look in her eyes that tells her Watari had a vision she’s clinging onto for dear life. “Tell him to ditch the contacts!”
“Contacts?” Tsuno blinks, then turns to Hama, realizing what the mystery dropped item is. “You wear contacts?” They’ve been dating for a couple months now and she’s surprised this is the first she’s heard of it.
Somehow Hama turned more crimson. “It’s not a big deal or anything…”
“It’s a HUGE deal!” Watari protests. “You’ve got the opportunity for glasses and you won't take it?!”
“Why would I?”
Tsuno’s starting to see how this debate began, guess she's getting involved whether she likes it or not. “I don’t think you’re changing his mind on this anytime soon.” She informs the fire dancer.
“Seriously we were just here it could not have gone that far…” Wada mutters in the background, still continuing her search for the contacts.
Tsuno’s about to join her until an arm wraps around her shoulder and Watari tugs her close. “But just think about it! Your super tall and buff boyfriend, sitting in a chair with a cute pair of little glasses while reading a little book!”
“Why the hell would my glasses be little?” Hama questions.
“It’s for aesthetic purposes!” Watari shouts, hoping he gets the vision.
He does not. “I’m not wearing glasses for aesthetic, do I look like Hiroaki to you?”
“The aesthetic doesn’t work with Nagawa it works only with you!”
“Well that’s dumb.”
In the middle of this, the mental vision had entered Tsuno’s brain and oh god, she could see why Watari would say she’d agree with her.
Hama looks rather handsome by himself, but combine that look with a pair of shades or glasses that match his punkish, edgy looks?
Yeahhh that’s what sells it for her.
“Ran, are you sure you didn’t step on them?” Wada complains from afar.
“I didn’t!” That’s when her reaction doesn’t go unnoticed. “What did you say to Manami?”
Watari turns, cackling a bit when she spots the bright red blush coating the superhero’s face. “Looks like Team Glasses has another member!”
Hama sighs, like he wants the rest of the day over with. “Seriously?”
Guess Tsuno should say something now that she’s been caught. “I-I just think they’d look good, I’m not saying you should w-wear glasses or anything, just that, er…” Wow, she’s killing it.
Watari grins like this is her own personal holiday. “You heard the lady, the eye doctor awaits!”
“No.” Hama crosses his arms.
But the fire dancer isn’t giving up just yet! “Pleaaaaaase?”
She forgets how stubborn the demonologist can be. “No.”
“Uhhhg you are such a buzzkill!” Watari throws her hands into the air. “The world needs to see the look! It just has to-”
“FINALLY!” Her ranting is interrupted by Wada shouting and jumping to her feet, library mannerisms be damned. “Ran, I found it!” She jogs over, waving something at him.
She deposits the item into his hands. “Thank god.” He lets out a sigh of relief. “I would’ve had to wait like, a week for replacements.”
“No problem.” Wada chuckles, relieved she had been able to help him out.
“Well I’m gonna go wash these, you better not tell the rest of the school about it.” That had been directed towards Watari, who tended to partake in quite a bit of school gossip.
“My lips are sealed!” She vows.
Tsuno decides to tag along which, thankfully he didn’t mind so now they were walking down to the dormitories since Hama did not want any of their peers to catch him washing his contacts in a public restroom.
However she can’t get the image of him with a pair of glasses out of her head, uhg why did Watari have to do this to her…? She's right in that he'd look so good with them on and she hates it because she should be a good, supportive girlfriend who respects his wishes of not wanting to wear glasses yet why is she still thinking about him wearing them?!
Eventually the internal conflict spills out in the form of a curious question. “So how come you wear contacts anyways?” She freezes, a little taken aback by her own bluntness. “Sorry if that’s pushing it!”
“You’re good.” He reassures her. “My mom just likes my eyes, so I don’t want to hide ‘em.”
Classic Hama, doing things out of love and care for his mom. “I hope I wasn’t making you weirded out back there, I totally get you not wanting to wear glasses-” Why? Why is she doing this? What power does this man have to turn her into a rambling, flustered mess? “Buuut if an emergency happens, I’m just saying you’d make them work!”
To her surprise and relief, Hama smiles. “Thanks.” It gives her this bubbly feeling in her chest, especially when his smile turns to something more warm and charming. “Maybe one of these days you’ll get to be the judge of that.”
Tsuno cannot believe the words she heard coming from his mouth. “Really?!” There’s stars in her eyes and a bright look on her face.
“Why the hell not? If it’ll make you happy then I’ll give it a shot.” He shrugs. “Just don’t tell Watari I told you this.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it!” Tsuno promises. “Hey, do you think our other classmates secretly wear contacts too?” She wouldn’t have suspected her own boyfriend but hey, life’s full of surprises.
“Maybe that’s why Hiroaki wears glasses all the damn time indoors.”
She chuckles. “I think he just wears them for style purposes.”
“He has like, twenty different pairs why the hell does he need so many for style?”
“We may never know.”
