“Chat wh- what are you guys talking about? What does that even mean?”
Joel squints at the word just sent in by someone as he pauses his building. Yaoi? He has no idea what this word even means, let alone how to pronounce it. More messages come in as chat is loving Joel’s confusion.
“Don’t look it up.”
“Ask Grian lollll”
“It’s pronounced yao-e”
“Yaoi. Right, okay, what does that mean? Chat, educate me. What is yaoi?”
Well, he knows how to say the word now, but he still has no idea what it actually means. Chat, however, is proving to be both unhelpful and confusing at the same time. Joel was just trying to build peacefully in the nether, but now the focus has seemed to shift to chat’s discovery of him not knowing what yaoi is.
“I don't know what it is, and now I am scared.”
One message seems to catch his attention.
“Ask Gem”
Joel looks to see who’s still awake and does see Gem’s name listed, so he sends her a message.
“what is Yaoi?”
He continues to build as he waits for her response, placing down stone slabs and moss until he sees an answer from her.
“Stop”
“Stop?” He laughs as he sends back a reply.
“gem i am old and genuinely don’t know tho”
“is it not pg?”
More breaking and placing blocks as Joel waits for Gem to respond. Then a new response is written.
“its like yuri but men”
He reads the response. “What the heck is yuri?” A bit of nervousness to his voice. He has no idea what wormhole he has just discovered, but it is leaving him with more questions than it is answers.
“what is yuri?”
Joel is sure that Gem is either laughing at him or facepalming at his questions. Could be both; he has no idea.
“its like yaoi but women”
He can't help but laugh. Neither of her answers helped solve his question. So all he does is send back a short answer.
“thanks”
He looks back to chat again to see if they can prove to be more helpful than Gem.
“BOAT BOYS IS YAOI”
You can hear the lightbulb go off in Joel’s head as he finally pieces it together. Well, at least he starts to.
“Oooh, wait, so is it, is it just being gay? I’m confused, I dont understand guys, I dont understand.”
A stream of “yes’s” fills the chat as people confirm Joel’s question. That’s at least one thing answered. He can only assume that yuri is similar, but he is still confused and slightly scared to ask.
“Wait until you find ao3”
“ao3? What’s ao3?”
The poor guy just wanted to build, but now chat is teaching him new words, and apparently, about fanfic reading websites.
