Chapter Text
Phillip was having a picnic with Sarah, his arranged wife. They had gotten to know each other quite well, and Phillip could even say he liked the woman with confidence. Not romantically, though. That was someone else’s job. “If you had the chance, would you marry Eliza?” Phillip asked.
“If I were still with you?”
“Yes.”
“Well, sorry, but I guess I’d have to.” Sarah shrugged.
“Have to? Really?” Phillip said in mock offense.
“Well, would you marry Rome?” the Bentham countered.
“Well, that’s different, I–”
“Would you marry Rome?” Sarah repeated with a knowing smile.
Phillip sighed. Sarah knew him too well. “In an instant,” he answered.
“There you have it. I wouldn’t blame you if you came home married to him one day.”
“Same goes for you. Love is love, isn’t it?”
“It is. We could all move in together one day. We’d fool everyone.”
“That’s quite the nice idea. I suppose we could.”
With a content smile, Phillip focused his gaze on the sunset happening just over the horizon of the sea. He hoped that one day, it was where he’d spy his love, sailing home to his arms.
