Chapter Text
Even while she was enjoying her successful job at the Joseph Crackstone tribute, she couldn’t stand Weems' protests.
“Miss Addams, you’re already on thin ice. Wafer thin ice.” Weems’ eyes were wide.
“I swear on my late scorpion’s soul, my hands are clean.” Wednesday stood up, facing Weems with her usual cold gaze.
“I may not have evidence but I see you.” The phone rang, interrupting the conversation. Both of them fixed their gaze on the phone. Weems picked it up.
“Hello, I’m not available at the moment, please call later-” She froze, nodding while a man on the phone talked. “Yes, I’m with her right now” A smirk appeared on her face. Wednesday couldn’t understand who she was talking to. “Don’t worry about it, I’ll take care of this.” Weems hung up the phone.
“Miss Addams, your hands are not as clean as you think.” Wednesday looked at her confused. “It turns out that a very prestigious Nevermore student saw you and your pet pouring chemicals on Joseph Crackstone’s statue.” Of course Bianca would pull this against Wednesday, after beating her at the Poe Cup, the tension between them only got worse. Wednesday was not affected at all by this. She was just irritated at the thought of having to put Bianca in her place again.
“Why do we even have an out-reach day? I’m sure you know the real story about Joseph Crackstone” Wednesday crossed her arms. Weems tensed, and took her a second to answer.
“I am familiar with the story”
“The people of Jericho hate us. That hasn’t changed in all these years. But now they sugar coat it with fake smiles and bad stories.”
“Jericho needs us and we need them. Where you see doom I see opportunity.” Weems turned her back to Wednesday and reached some forms from her desk. “And talking about opportunity, you will be punished” Wednesday smiled at the thought of being expelled, or staying in her dorm while the others went to the Rave’n, but Weems had other plans for her.
“You will be going to detention, from monday to friday, you will be attending scholar events, and you will be getting a job.” Wednesday frowned, not because of detention, not because having to work, but the part of socializing with people or anything related to the customer’s attention drained her energy.
“And you can choose the place, but it has to be in Jericho since you burned down their statue.” Both of them stayed in place in silence for a few seconds.
“You start as soon as you get hired, I’m sure you can do that very fast. Goodnight Miss Addams” Wednesday turned and left Weems' office. She headed to her dorm to continue her novel.
Finally in her dorm, she changed to her pajamas and undid her braids. Enid had sneaked out to see Ajax before going to sleep, so she had the time and space to think. At this time she would’ve finished one chapter of Viper De La Muerte, but she was making a mental list of all the places in Jericho to work. Then she remembered Tyler. He works at the Weathervane, which looked like the best choice among the others. Especially because she wouldn’t like her coworkers, but Tyler would be a tolerable company.
-
The next day she prepared her resume and walked 25 min minutes to Jericho.
Once she arrived at the Weathervane she saw Tyler talking to a customer. He was very focused on his job. Wednesday noticed it and started to analyze him. He was wearing his uniform, his curls were defined and shining with the sunlight of the morning. He moved very carefully making the coffees but also fast and efficiently. She kept analyzing him until she realized he noticed her presence.
“Hi Wednesday” he said while leaving the quad on the table and sitting in front of her in the usual booth.
“Tyler.” she said, arranging her posture. She put her resume on the table. “I need to get a job” Tyler was surprised by this. He knew Wednesday didn't need a job, she was kind of rich, or that was what he thought.
“Umm, I don't think that we have a free spot, but maybe I can talk to my boss.”
“Perfect.”
“Can I ask why you need a job?.” He looked at her up and down, admiring her.
“I’m ‘paying’ for expressing my ideals.” she huffed.
“By expressing your ideals you mean burning down Joseph Crackstone’s statue?” Wednesday now faced him, he was trying not to laugh. “I'd do it again.” She crossed her arms.
“Of course you would,” he let out a little giggle. “I’ll talk tomorrow with my boss. Let me see what I can do.”
“Thank you.”
“Oh and the quad is on the house.” He said with a half-smile. Then he got away to continue serving clients.
She spent the afternoon there, enjoying her quad while taking notes of the place, how people worked, and especially how Tyler did. It was getting dark so she left and went back to Nervermore.
–
Finally in her dorm, Enid was getting ready to go to bed.
“Where were you today?” Enid asked while she did her skincare.
“I was at the Weathervane.”
“Oh…” Enid raised her eyebrows and smiled. She knew Wednesday liked Tyler, it was kind of obvious now.
“What?” Wednesday rolled her eyes.
“It’s just that you’ve been a lot at the Weathervane lately”
“And?” Wednesday’s tone was evasive.
“I’m wondering if it has to do with something,” she coughed “or someone…”
“My interests only have to do with my needs. And dating Tyler or anyone is not one of them.”
“I never said anything about dating, or about Tyler,” Enid grinned. Wednesday cheeks turned a bit pink. Warm blood was starting to flush in her whole body.
“It’s late Enid, you should get some sleep, you clearly need it.”
“Okay Wednesday, whatever you say.”
They went to sleep, or tried to. Wednesday was thinking, why was she getting nervous talking about a boy?, she said she would never fall in love, be in a relationship, and all the things that came along with it. She certainly had ‘love’ for people. Enid is her best friend, and she loves her, but not in that way. Maybe she was starting to have that same love for Tyler, and it didn't mean anything. But why was it so different?. She will find out later. Now she has to get the job at the Weathervane and tolerate it until the month is over.

Tyler left the table and continued to serve the customers. He spent all afternoon looking at her. She was drinking the quad he had made for her. He was trying to not get too distracted by her presence, but it was impossible. The effect she has on him, no one has ever made him feel that way before. He likes to think that he has the same effect on her. And now was the perfect time to find that out. They would be working together, spending all day mostly close. He had the chance to see her with an apron. And not so long ago she was fixing the coffee machine beside him. Who thought that four weeks later he would be calling his boss to get her an interview?.
When his shift ended he went straight home. He showered and got ready for bed. He was really hoping that his boss would give Wednesday the job. He knew she would be perfect for the task, but the customer’s attention would probably not be the best suit for her.
“What time is it?” he huffed, his eyes half-closed, and saw 9:30AM in the clock “Shit”.
He rushed to get to the Weathervane, his boss usually leaves at 10AM, this was the only time he would get to talk to him properly.
After practically begging him to hire Wednesday, his boss agreed. But she had to be supervised by Tyler since it was his idea to bring her, there was no problem with that.
“Hi wednesday” he called her.
“Hello Tyler”
“Well great news, I talked to my boss and you got the job!” He sounded so excited.
“Without interviewing me first? How desperate are they?”
“You start tomorrow at 3PM, don’t be late.”
“I’m never late.” She hesitated on what to say,”Thank you, Tyler” she tried to hide her smile. She was grateful he wasn’t around to see how she failed doing it.
“It’s nothing really. I’ll see you tomorrow?.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
