Work Text:
Scott had decided to leave the town of Oakhurst, willing to rebuild his castle and stay away from the townsfolk (Avid) who constantly found him suspicious (Still Avid) yes he was right, but for all the wrong reasons. Owen had decided to accompany him, with Pyro and Shelby later joining the ranks. While having this kind of company was nice, new, exciting. It wasn't right. Deep down, even after being asleep for 600 years.
Scott missed him.
A servant boy who took a liking to Scott early on, despite their differences. And when Scott had become a vampire, the other man, his beloved, had asked to be turned too, wanting to be with Scott forever.
And who was he to say no to a request like that?
Yet when things became too dangerous, when his lover's life was put at risk he had sent him away. Promising he would come find Cam.. God just thinking of his name made the vampire's throat close up. Once it was all over, Scott had promised a happy ending.
Instead he was put to sleep.
If Cam was still alive, he would have long since moved on from Scott.
So the blue haired vampire grit his teeth and decided to focus on the task at hand, there was little reason to open old wounds.
He'd simply have to create new ones.

Cam wasn't sure what he was returning to Oakhurst for. He was convinced Scott was long dead. Maybe he was just hoping for a sign that proved him right or- more hopefully wrong. Passing by the town on his way to the castle he was stunned to see people.. That wasn't right.
Spotting silver blocks at the entrance to town made him keep his distance, for a long while Cam had remained at stage one. Scott preferred his more human appearance and Cam having little reason to be bloodthirsty yet in Scott's absence and to help him travel, he had decided to go to stage two. His eyes now a light shade of red, his hair becoming a slightly lighter blonde.
The weird part was that he didn't need his glasses anymore. Yet he still kept them close, they felt a little like a part of him.
Anyway, the task at hand. He spotted a guy who seemed pretty jumpy, eyes that were wide with fear as he frantically explained something to other townsfolk. Moving close he made out something about vampires.. And a name.
Scott.
If Scott was still alive, why had he broken his promise? He told Cam they would meet again soon before he had been absent from Cam's life for far, far too long.
A little heartbroken, but desperate to know the truth, he'd taken flight and made his way to the castle… Or what was left of it.
Though the castle was being rebuilt way different from how Cam remembered it, one thing remained the same. A blue haired Vampire sat at the head of the table, deep in thought.
Cam landed just behind Scott, unsure of if he should call out. How would he greet Scott? He'd used sire before- mostly to tease him. His favourite was simply ‘my love’ but.. Was that still true? Was Scott still his?
A hesitant voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
“My love? You came back?”
Scott was looking at him.. When did he return to his own second stage? Yet that was hardly the most important part. Cam had an urge to jump straight into Scott's arms. Craving touch from the man who still treated Cam as his. His eternal love.
“I came hoping for answers.” Cam confessed. “You left me alone for so long.” The blonde hung his head, almost scared of what Scott may say. “After you left they put me to sleep, I only woke up recently.” Scott stood from his seat, walking over to Cam and taking a gentle hold of his face, tilting his head up so their gaze can meet, cautious of his regrown claws. “I'm sorry I sent you away, I couldn't risk your life.”
“But they didn't know how to kill us.” Cam reasoned. “No, they didn't. We had no way of knowing that until the battle though” while Cam supposed that was true. He would have much rather died with Scott, than continue living an eternity without him.
“I wanted you to turn me.” Cam reminded his lover gently. “I wanted to live forever with you.” That faint smile on Scott's face was enough to reassure him everything was okay. “I know.” Scott responded, his tone gentle. “And we will. But we'll have to deal with the town first, they aren't as keen for peace as our old neighbours once were.”
“Why have they chosen to stay here?” Cam asked, to which Scott looked confused “You haven't seen the beacons?”
“No, not yet”
Scott lets out a soft, fond giggle “My love, there's one right behind you.”
Cam let out a soft oh as he turned to face it. ”Because of the beacons, they can't leave. Neither can we. Honestly I'm not even sure how you got in.”
“Determination?” Cam guessed, earning an eye roll from Scott. “Sure, we'll go with that.”
A brief moment of silence between them. Scott admiring the man he thought he lost a long time ago. Cam just smiles back, and as a reward, Scott presses a soft kiss to his lips. “Thank you for coming back for me.” It was odd to hear Scott so vulnerable, not that it was unwelcome.
To avoid the risk of another vampire stumbling across them, which he's honestly stunned hasn't already happened, Scott decides to take Cam's hand gently leading him to what he had been using as a bedroom. While vampires couldn't sleep, they still needed personal space to leave their belongings, and while his bed was not as big or comfortable as it may have been, sometimes it was nice to just lay down.
Especially now.
Especially when Cam snuggled up in his arms like it was muscle memory. As if it was only yesterday the two had laid together.
Last time this happened, Cam had begged Scott to go with him, pleaded for them to leave together seeing little reason to stay behind. Scott had declined saying he had things he needed to finish off first.
Then he was put to sleep.
“I missed the blue hair,” Cam remarked. Causing a groan to come from Scott. “I've tried to get rid of it but until I reach my third stage once more, I don't think I can.” Once he reached his third stage, he'd be powerful enough to protect Cam. He could take out the humans and give them both the life they wanted. Finally getting revenge for the past. As if Cam could read his mind, or more likely just witnesses the way Scott's face darkened, he spoke up.
“Do we have to fight them?” Cam asked, his soft gaze meeting Scott's confused one. “Well- if we want to leave, yes”
“I don't want to lose you again.”
Ah. There it was. Cam was afraid Scott would be put into another slumber. Scott doesn't have the heart to tell him that this time, the humans are gunning to take him out permanently, and they unfortunately have resources to do so. If they somehow over powered Scott, though unlikely he could never be too sure, it may not end very well. He knows he can't die, knows he doesn't want to die.
Scott let's out a gentle sigh. Starting at the man in his arms. The man he once swore to spend the rest of eternity with, the only one who was able to make him feel anything remotely human.
He looks down at Cam. Who tilts his head up for Scott, before they share a kiss. Knowing they'll have many more to come. And this time, Scott makes a promise he knows he'll keep. This time, they'll leave together.
“I'll figure out a way for us to do this peacefully.”
That's probably what Shelby would prefer anyway.
He can't wait for Cam to meet her.
They've got a long life ahead of them after all.
