“-with the recent snowfall and blizzard last night, people have been advised to-“
“I believe that’s enough of the news for you, my love,” the voice of Von Lycaon snapped Wise out of his stupor.
The Wolf Thiren stood before the former Proxy, mugs of hot chocolate in both his paws before hands one to Wise.
“H-Heh. Sorry…” Wise sheepishly replied, accepting the mug as Lycaon came to sit beside him. “I’m just reminded that this is the first time I’m not celebrating Christmas with Belle…”
“It is alright, my dear,” Lycaon lifted a paw to Wise’s cheek. “Everyone was looking for to the Christmas party this year.”
“Yeah…” Wise said looking out the window to see the snowfall. “But. If one good thing came out from it… It’s spending it with you.”
Lycaon chuckled before placing his mug on the coffee table. “As am I.”
Lycaon took Wise’s cup and put next to his before enveloping his husband in an embrace. Wise was quick to reciprocate, holding the Wolf Thiren close as he heard his tail wag happily.
“And let’s not forget that I received the greatest gift I ever ask for.” Lycaon whispered in Wise’s ear.
Wise’s face instantly flushed and he chuckled softly, the sound carrying a warmth that seemed to seep right into the fireplace’s crackling firelight. “You’re exaggerating, Ly.”
Lycaon raised a brow, his eye narrowing ever so slightly. “Exaggerating? You think I’m lying?”
“No, no.” Wise grinned, tilting his head teasingly. “Just… you make it sound like I handed you the moon when all I gave you was… me…”
“You did hand me the moon,” Lycaon countered smoothly before shaking his head. “No… You gave me everything. Everything I could ever want and need.”
Wise laughed, shaking his head. “You’re hopeless.”
“And you’re far too modest,” Lycaon said, his tail flicking lazily behind him. “Perhaps I should remind you how precious you are to me…”
Before Wise could shoot back with another retort, Lycaon leaned in and pressed a quick peck against his lips.
Wise blinked, startled. “Hey, I wasn’t—”
Another peck.
“Lycaon—”
And again.
Wise broke into a laugh, trying to speak—
But found himself cut off by yet another kiss.
Finally, with laughter still spilling from his lips, he raised his hand between them like a barrier. “Enough! You’re just trying to shut me up.”
But the Thiren didn’t even think of stopping. Instead, Lycaon brushed his lips against the palm of Wise’s hand, a small smirk tugging at his face.
“You’re silly,” Wise said with a mock sigh, though his cheeks were warming ever more so.
In response, Lycaon gently took both of Wise’s hands in his own Then, with deliberate care, he pressed a lingering kiss to the back Wise's hand.
“Incorrigible wolf,” Wise mumbled before finally leaning forward, nestling into Lycaon’s chest. His head came to rest on his lover’s shoulder, his body instinctively seeking that closeness and the steady beat of Lycaon’s heart beneath his ear. “Seeing you smile like this… it makes my heart warm. Makes me feel…”
The words die out in Wise’s throat. But tightens his grip on his husband, Lycaon’s arms tightened around him in return.
“I just want to see you so happy.”
It was a muffled whisper, but one Lycaon was easily able to pick up on. And Wise hoped he didn’t hear.
Then he felt the Wolf Thiren shift beneath him.
Strong arms slid under his thighs and back, lifting him effortlessly into a bridal carry.
Wise jolted, his arms reaching out to wrap around Lycaon’s neck. Lycaon only chuckled softly, walking with steady, yet confident strides before leaning down to brush several kiss against Wise’s cheek as he walked, like the cheek had become a magnet for affection.
Wise could only laugh at his husband’s action as they made their way to the dining room for a feast for dinner.
That night, that Christmas, was yet another night of reaffirmed vows, full-hearted laughter, and a love that would guide them through all the days yet to come.
