Hiya!
I’m sleepywinks09, or just Winks for short(my account is named after my beanie baby whom I dearly love).
I’ve read some cool stuff(LOTR, Codex Alera), watched some cool stuff(My Hero, One Piece), and listened to some cool stuff(Yes, Cream, Brand X, Return to Forever, and much much more).
I play bass and drums, obsess over jazz and 60s acid rock, and spend my time thinking up stories.
This is a decently big project I’ve been cooking for a while at this point.
I’m a huge MHA fan, but I HATE the ending for one singular reason: the destruction of One For All.
It’s executed well, don’t get me wrong. But it always pisses me off that the "reward" for all of Izuku's training with OFA is only heroic experience and not a power he has a handle on.
Izuku also was just so much cooler with One For All than a suit in my opinion. He’s a mad genius with an absurd amount of power to back it up, so it’s pretty upsetting to watch that get knocked away.
I also like some of the characters enough to wish they had stories focused around them.
So, what does a guy do?
Make a fanfic sequel.
I had the idea shortly after learning about the ending(initial drafts had Toga revive as well but honestly I think she can stay dead) and have been chopping up and redoing the story over and over and over. Several times, I thought I had gotten the idea to a point where I feel I can actually do something with it.
However, making an entirely new story doesn’t bode well with me.
Final War is just such an impactful arc. I don’t mean impactful as in making an impact on the reader, but more as the implications within the story.
For a while, I struggled with that notion. A second year story would just be redundant; they don’t need to fight anymore villains.
Then, I had an idea: rewrite the main story, something I was already planning on doing already.
Two of my favorite My Hero fics on here are rewrites themselves, those being AuthorDGaster’s The Symbols of Hope and Victory and Chesterton17’s Tidal Lock, which both have a spot in my bookmarks bar so I can check daily for chapter updates.
It makes giving more characters big roles much easier than having to throw more conflicts at them, and also allows me to stretch their characters much more than a sequel fic could.
Plus, the timing is just lame. Second year? Really? A good sequel fic would focus on them as adults, rather than them as second year students.
When this is all said and done though, I might make a sequel where they enjoy the rest of high school.
Also…
There will be a lot of musical references in this, as one of my hyperfixations is old-school rock and jazz.. The title itself is a reference to the song Bein’ Friends by Keiichi Suzuki off of the Mother 1 soundtrack, later remade and put as track two on his rock album rendition of the soundtrack. Chapters will be named after songs and albums I like, and there will be some filler content centered around a music elective, the student band, and other things.
I hope you enjoy my fic! I’m still really new to writing and haven’t been able to put more than six chapters on a fic, so hopefully I can actually make this happen.
