Work Text:
The Maybeland main land landline rang just as Santa stepped into his office. He had just gotten back from the North pole. Crazy Quilt Dragon had run there and tried to climb up it with the silver star when Judy and Jimmy were about to go home. The dear children had just got it back from the bad dolls after Jack had mended it. Thankfully they had gotten it back from Crazy Quilt just before Maybeland magic had whisked them back home.
When he picked up the receiver the voice of Maybeland's queen, Melissa, came through. She wanted to send the children a gift. It was already wrapped and all that was needed to be done was to send it off to the World. It wouldn’t be hard to send over either, just a little bit of magic; then it would be in the Snow Country like it was always there.
Santa had rapidly agreed as he had quickly grown a liking to the children. Melissa was delighted and the letter was on Santa's desk before you could say anything. A residue of magic could be felt from it, most likely something was enchanted with magic. Hard to say for sure, but if Santa had to hedge a bet he would say a communication device or maybe something like a skeleton key. Based on the magical signature left over of course. The clock struck 10 and it was time to go. The sleigh was hitched up, all the trailers as well, and off they went to the World.
It was nearing the end of the working hours, it was coming close too, with the fiasco with the silver star and all. But Santa made it work, he always does, as he neared the final house for the night, the Bartons. This is where Judy and Jimmy would be, hopefully asleep and resting after the trip to Maybeland. Getting inside is never a problem, just a simple phasing through the walls and he’s in.
The Barton's Christmas tree was sparkling. It had loops of lights in all colors, tinsel in silvers and golds. The ornaments decorating the tree told tales of all the places the family has gone in the past years, and at the very tip top was the silver star. The very same silver star that was stolen, lost, broken, mended by Jack Frost, and stolen once again before it was rightfully returned to the children. Then right below it, on the highest branch it could safely be put, was Paddy O Cinnamon, the cinnamon bear and his golden airplane.
Santa quickly got to work putting the presents under the tree. Then at the very end the letter from Melissa was put near the very center, in the hopes that the adults won’t see and take it away from the children. Now it was time to go, the sleigh was hitched up and off they went.
The night was good, the feast was merry, and the children knew it was true.
