Chapter Text
“Ya got to stop pullin’ yer strin’ Heiji. It’s wired an’ I can’t even see it.”, says Kazuha towards Heiji on a simple day just hanging out at Heiji’s room. He was just fidgeting his fated string, as he always done but Heiji doesn’t quite remember when he started the habit, it goes from fidgeting to slight tugging in a back and forth motion of his wrist and his hand balled in with couple of his fated string wrapped around.
His soulmate does reply with a slight harsh tugging which only he could tell from his tugging. Which you can say it’s there way of communicating.
Heiji eye rolls at Kazuha comment. “I told ya many times. It’s how we communicate.”, focus on a book that he was reading. Funny how everyone can see their own strings but not everyone else. Some people have written about how one soulmate could talk via writing on each-other skins, another said via telepathy of one soulmate hearing each-other voices, via pain sharing between soulmates or some rare occasion switching bodies with your soulmate.
Heiji got the most boring one of all, a fated red string just rapped around his ring finger and it just trails and trails a long distance away that he can see. One could follow it and lead to your fates but majority of cases it leads to that your soulmate wasn’t even in the same country. So it was in a sense a lost cost. Heiji didn’t really minded because he honestly thought that Kazuha and him would have been soulmates but since noticing how his string didn’t even connect to her, even less that she couldn’t see it. He thought it was cruel that ‘fate’ didn’t put them together but it’s fine, Heiji loves Kazuha as a best friend. There was always more than just romantic love.
There was always a constant pull that Heiji would feel during intervals in his day. He could imagine his soulmate does a lot with their hands, especially their fingers, to feel their string to move. Heiji would sometimes reply back with his own tugging but he realized that his soulmate would stop completely then continue for a slight moment when Heiji fully stop tugging.
His soulmate didn’t mind when he fidget with his string. But also didn’t fully distract him when he was at kendo practice or self practicing at home, when Heiji does a lot of movement, especially that the hands. In a way they both understood each other, even if everyone looks at Heiji wired or a bit of judgmental looks when he fidget in public.
Heiji did stop fully one time which made his soulmate pull on their end hard that almost made Heiji stumble where he was standing. In a way, it was telling to don’t stop. Please still communicate with me. Which resulted with Heiji just to continue but when he was only comfortable with his close peers (aka Kazuha) or alone. Obviously he still does it at school or solving cases.
There was one point that Heiji fully stop fidgeting his red string. Which was when Heiji was fully focused on the Detective of the East, Kudo Shinichi. And how he was talking about his cases and how he was in general to who ever wanted to listen. Which it lead to Kazuha assuming that he had a crush on the guy.
To an extent..Heiji really thought on if. If Kudo Shinichi was his soulmate. He would hung the moon itself but he knows that wouldn’t be true. Yes he has a crush on the guy but the every tug on his string is constant and firm. Right. His soulmate. Heiji really tugged his string back to his soulmate which Heiji hopes that he made them stumble like they did to him.
Heiji realized that Kudo appearance diminished over the current months and arisen a new detective, Mori Kogoro. Which it slightly made him pissed off. It led to a rash decision of him making a bag right and there and head off to the station. Which he left without really saying anything but Kazuha did really catch him in a bad time especially when she was headed to his house. “Heiji! What ya doin’!? Where da hell ya evenin’ goin’?!”, says Kazuha especially trailing behind Heiji. “To Tokyo that’ where ‘m headin’.”
Which Kazuha realizes quickly the whole reason. “It’ to meet the Kudo guy ain’t it? Heiji ya kind of insane.” She settles with that.
“Hmm could be worst” that was his simple reply to that.
“Goodluck.” Kazuha stops trailing him. “If he breaks yer heart let me know Heiji!” Kazuha shouts while the only response it’s Heiji ears reddening up with embarrassment. He subconsciously fidgets his strings and it’s meet with the grounding tug that’s it’s always to reply back.
Heiji red string was getting shorter and tense instead of the the usual relaxed and long. Now just getting reactive and changing. “Huh..so my soulmate was just in Tokyo all the time..” he thought as he was set to his destination that is the Mori’s Detective Agency and even a bit dejected that his string was leading him the other way. The decision of to potentially meeting Kudo just to challenge him or to finally meet his soulmate. Is he really want to unravel that mystery?
Heiji legs leads away following his red string.
Following his string, each step it goes shorter and shorter till it leads him to a house, especially the entrance. The string itself is tense and lifted from the ground. Heiji knows if he tugged it, his soulmate would fall to the ground. Which he wouldn’t do whatsoever but a bit nervous about finally meeting them, he fidgets his red string. His movements are now defined and you could ‘see’ it.
Heiji could wait till his soulmate replied but the only reply was the tugging from his fidgeting. Got to the point that he’d just pull and tugged it that there was a commotion inside the house. The door opened and a girl with short messy hair and almost the same hight as Kazuha appeared. Looking behind her, a slight intake of a gasp from Heiji was barely noticeable, Was a boy could be seen he had messy hair, was slightly bent over, looked like he was about hit the floor but was slightly moving forward towards him. Right between the middle was the bright red string between them. Heiji’s fidgeting seems to quicken because he’s getting excited about finally seeing his soulmate! He’s pretty to look at. Which Heiji didn’t realize that his soulmate almost face planted to the floor because of his tugging.
“Ah! Sorry, ‘ll- stop doin’ that. ‘m Hattori Heiji.”, Heiji said a bit embarrassed that he almost made his soulmate eat cemented right in front of him. Before his soulmate could say anything the woman, assuming that is his soulmate friend spoke up. “Aoko is surprised that Bakaito soulmate pretty to look at.” Aoko looks at ‘Bakaito’ and throws a pointing hand at Heiji. “How Aoko wouldn’t say but Bakaito won the lottery.” Which both boys spluttered.
