Solstice

Summary:

Elsa was … Rumi's. A realization that had ached at first until the three of them had sat down and really talked about it. About them. How Elsa could fit in.

At some point Mira had realized that Elsa was a lot more than just a friend with benefits. That her feelings for her might be similar to how she felt about Zoey and Rumi. Different, because Elsa was neither of them.

But similar.

Mira could love each woman the way they deserved. She was made for that kind of thing.

or, Elsa has been in a situationship with all three members of Huntrix for a little while now, and Mira and Zoey want to make things a little more clear.

Notes:

the elsatrix propaganda continues!

So does the Celine-is-a-troll propaganda...

Work Text:

"Wait wait wait," Zoey sat up straighter and stared. "Your birthday is seriously the winter solstice?"

"December twenty-second, eighteen-eighteen," Elsa confirmed, leaning her chin on her hand and smiling at Zoey.

She wondered what Elsa's two-hundredth birthday might have been like. If she'd celebrated it alone. The thought made her heart ache.

Zoey felt her foot get nudged and nudged back at her ... her girlfriend?

Mira and Rumi were her girlfriends and Elsa was kind of Rumi's girlfriend and their situationship but they all shared one giant bed at this point and she liked Elsa a whole lot in ways that went way past friendly and they'd talked about it a little but was this a square instead of a triangle with a line—

"Zoey?"

Right, birthday talking, "We should have a party! Nothing big, just us and maybe Bobby. Possibly Celine. You need to meet her anyway she's basically Rumi's mom and kind of Mira's mom and like an extra mom to me cuz my mom wasn't too bad and sure none of us were talking to her for awhile but we're working on that."

Elsa got that 'I don't know if I'm ready to meet Rumi's mother' look, but said instead, "Are you okay?"

Zoey stared a little wide-eyed back before she laughed, "I'm cool. Brain doing some loops."

Quirking her brow, Elsa ran a toe up the inside of Zoey's shin and her brain loops derailed—total disaster, hundreds, maybe thousands dead. She coughed and knocked back some water to try to clear her throat.

"If you say so," Elsa sounded amused.

Oh, Zoey had to turn this around. Her hand slid under the table and she grasped Elsa's ankle and guided her foot up higher, "Mostly loops about you, jagiya. How pretty you looked last night. How gorgeous you look right now with the sun behind you. You look like fresh snow on a winter's day."

At least two songs on their next album had heavy winter and ice themes and Zoey was not even a little sorry. The universe kept handing her women that she could write poetry about, she didn't have a choice!

Elsa's breath hitched, bringing a triumphant smile to Zoey's face. She trailed a finger along the top of Elsa's foot, relishing the shiver she got in return, "I like sparkly things and you're extra sparkly."

"I could say the same about you." Elsa's cheeks were roughly the color of Mira's hair, "What did Rumi call you the other night? Stardust?"

They were equally matched, Zoey conceded. Elsa had kind of upended the rock/paper/scissors of her relationship to her girls both in the bedroom and out, but she wasn't sure she minded. Pulling away from Elsa's foot, Zoey sprung upright and circled over to her, leaning down and planting a kiss on her lips. Her hands trailed over Elsa's cheeks and into her hair as Elsa hummed into her mouth and kissed her back.

"That was for stardust," Zoey murmured.

Elsa laughed and kissed the freckles on her cheeks, "This is for sparkly."

Zoey stared into her eyes for a moment, then pressed her forehead against Elsa's, "So maybe the brain loops are still looping." She straightened and held out her hands, "Can I ask you something?"

"If it's something I can answer, I will." Elsa took her hands and let Zoey pull her to her feet. Zoey didn't say anything right away, simply pulled Elsa towards the elevator and took a right to the stairs. It was a single floor up and through an access door that led to the roof.

Countless nights had been spent stargazing up here, or looking out over the city and the Honmoon. Rumi had confessed her feelings to Zoey and Mira up here, shortly after the Idol Awards.

It felt appropriate.

There was a light dusting of snow on the roof, and their shoes crunched on it as they walked. Out of the corner of her eyes, she watched as Elsa stuck her hands into her jean pockets and looked out over the city.

"Mira and Rumi are my soulmates," Zoey said, looking down at the city lights. "I've believed that from the day I met them. I mean, the Honmoon brought us together, I felt a song in my chest that I'd never heard before but I'd always known." She fiddled with a promise ring on her finger, "I've loved them for nearly as long. But it kind of feels like I've met you before, in another life. That I might have loved you before in another life. It's… I don't know what to think. What that makes us. I listen to you sing and I feel like we've made songs together."

"Because you have met me, and we did make songs together," Elsa said. She stepped closer, then waved her hand. Magic flowed around the rooftop and then took form; three figures in ice, arms around each other.

Zoey remembered a picture Elsa owned; her standing close to three hunters from the generation one hundred years ago. She reached out and took Elsa's hand.

"I knew you were them from the moment I laid eyes on you. You're … different, unique, but who you are in your hearts is the same." Elsa turned her gaze away from the ice figures and onto Zoey, "I've always believed fate can nudge someone in a direction. Ensure they meet. But what we do with that is entirely up to us."

" I know you and Rumi hit off really well but I like you a lot, Elsa." Zoey squeezed her hand, "And what I want is for you to be my girlfriend too." She'd ask on Mira's behalf but was pretty sure Mira had her own plans so this was just for her. It was okay to do things just for her, as long as she didn't hurt her girls in the process.

"I'd like that," Elsa pulled her in, kissing the top of her head. She was unfairly the same height as Mira, which gave her the head kissing privileges and Zoey sighed, sinking into the embrace. Then she tilted her head back and pulled Elsa down to kiss her.

Throwing together a birthday party at the last minute wasn't all that hard, especially for Huntrix and Bobby. Mira's job was to take Elsa out even if Elsa already knew there was a part. Sort of just to keep her out of the way.

Mira hadn't minded at all.

Just about the only down side was she had to keep her hands to herself, but she was used to that when out with Zoey or Rumi so it wasn't all that hard.

Except it was hard. Elsa sparkled today, deep purple eye shadow and something glittery she had on her face and nails and knowing Elsa, it was probably literally ice crystals. Mira liked sparkly things. She thought Elsa looked good in gold or silver. Or just about anything.

She watched her out of the corner of her eyes as they walked, unaccustomed to being of equal height to one of her partners. If that even was what they were.

Elsa's hand brushed hers and Mira moved her knuckles against Elsa's, then slid her fingers around to her palm. On her right hand, she worried at her promise ring with her thumb.

But she didn't let go of Elsa until they'd reached where they were going.

"Did you seriously take me to an ice skating rink?" Elsa asked, a delighted smile on her face.

"Too on the nose?"

"Oh it's perfect." Elsa looked at her, "But Rumi took me somewhere yesterday and Zoey the day before and we all went to that park before that. I'm almost beginning to wonder if it's my birthday this week or something."

Fondly rolling her eyes, Mira pulled the door open for her, "We're having a party to celebrate the solstice and for no other reasons."

Elsa smiled, sliding a hand along Mira's shoulder before she stepped inside. Mira stared after her for a moment, then followed her.

"I'd say I left my skates in Norway but I never used any to begin with," Elsa said, looking at Mira over her shoulder and winking. "Not when I have other means of making the blades."

"You… would," Mira said, catching up to Elsa and nudging her arm. "I'd like to see that sometime."

Elsa turned into her and Mira slipped her arm around her, squeezing lightly. Elsa took her hand again and heat rose to Mira's face but she didn't let go, not until they'd started moving again and she was all too conscious of being caught.

They were paranoid enough of Elsa being caught coming and going from the penthouse, but caught like this? Bobby would have his work cut out for him, and he already had his work cut out for him.

A half step behind Elsa, Mira looked down at her ring. Two others just like it rested on the hands of Zoey and Rumi. Marking them as hers and Mira as theirs.

They collected some skates and sat down to get them on. Mira watched Elsa a moment, feeling a little insecure.

Not because she was any less beautiful than Elsa was; Mira was smoking hot and she knew it. But sometimes she was afraid that was all she had going for her. Her looks and little else.

It was irrational but that was the problem with irrationality. It was irrational!

Which made it annoying.

"Coming?" Elsa asked, and Mira realized she'd just been sitting there with her skates tied like a dumbass.

Nodding, Mira got to her feet and followed Elsa onto the ice. This was Elsa's natural habitat and she moved with an ease born of talent and long practice.

Almost without thought Mira fell into it as well. She was a dancer, talented and classically trained and practiced until movement was as natural as breathing. That translated into an agile elegance on the ice that had her able to keep up with Elsa like they'd danced together on the ice before.

And it wasn't like Zoey or Rumi. Their hearts and lungs weren't in sync in the way that she would be with her soul mates. But there was something else there, a grace all its own, something unique between them. They skated like that, wordless, breathless, in sync but in a different way, two hearts beating counter-point, until Mira needed a break and skated to the wall.

Elsa joined her, "That was fun. You're beautiful out there. But you're beautiful everywhere." She placed her hand over Mira's chest, "In here too."

Mira stared into her eyes for a long moment, before she fished something out of her pocket, "I got you something. It's not really a birthday thing. Just something that's been on my mind lately. It's just… It feels like you're dating all of us but I don't know for sure? And I'm way over being uncertain about things. I like being sure."

"Are you asking me out?" Elsa asked, tilting her head.

"If you want to. Or whatever."

"I want to."

Relief flooded Mira, and she placed something in Elsa's hand, "I got another copy of our rings. For you."

Smiling, Elsa slipped the ring onto one of her fingers. Her reply was teasing, but kind, "And that makes three of you."

Mira laughed, "Saved the best for last." Gently, she pinned Elsa to the wall of the rink, hands on her coat like she was fixing it, and kissed her deeply.

Mira and Elsa had come back looking happy. Mira seemed to be pleased with herself and Elsa had that smile on her face that was practically the definition of a cat that caught the canary.

From the not quite perfectly fixed make-up and the new ring on Elsa's finger, Rumi could guess how it had gone, which was what she and Zoey had been hoping for. Rumi had felt drawn to Elsa when they'd first met, as if they'd met before, but she couldn't imagine a world where she wasn't with Mira and Zoey. So she was … very happy with these developments.

The four of them should talk about their new relationship status as a whole again, but maybe not on Elsa's birthday.

Rumi got her kisses out of both of them before they got the party started. Since it was just the four of them plus Bobby and Celine, Rumi hoped it wouldn't be too overwhelming for Elsa. She wasn't exactly the party type, though she did enjoy being among people again.

Or maybe she was just biased hanging out with the three of them. And Bobby and Celine.

Pure-hearted, perfect Bobby, who'd rolled with Elsa coming into their lives the same way he'd rolled with them coming out — both as a throuple and as Demon Hunters.

Granted, he did actually faint when Elsa displayed her powers, but he was doing better now. He promised!

Point was, she was grateful to him for more than just making sure they had food, chocolate cake and some decorations for this party. He also ended up taking a picture of the four of them that Rumi fell immediately in love with.

"We are the hottest people on the planet," Zoey declared. Elsa flushed, but Mira and Rumi agreed without hesitation.

"Say it," Mira nudged Elsa in the side as Zoey rested her chin on Rumi's shoulder and grinned at her.

"We're hot," Elsa said, twirling her finger and making the room momentarily cold as ice sparkled in the air.

"I don't think I'll ever get used to that." Celine said, walking out of the kitchen with the cake.

Rumi still didn't know if Celine approved, but she hadn't disapproved yet which would have to be enough.

She seemed to really like Elsa at least. Enough that Rumi had walked in on them speaking on the phone more than once.

Zoey believed they were plotting something. Rumi believed it too. She smiled as Elsa's eyes locked onto the chocolate cake.

"You're just as greedy as your mother," Celine said, amusement in her voice.

Rumi realized she'd been leaning in closer to Elsa and jerked away on instinct, "What?!"

"Do you think you're the first Hunters to both fall in love and bring in extras?" Celine asked, raising her eyebrow.

"Technically—" Elsa started to say, before she shut her mouth.

Rumi was too busy trying not to read between the lines about Celine and her mother but it was too late, the thought could not be unthought, "Did you fuck my mom Celine?!"

Zoey started laughing hard enough that she fell off of the couch as Mira tried to catch her, only to tumble off with her.

"Obviously." Celine, acting like she hadn't just upended Rumi's world, cutting slices for each of them even as half of Rumi's girlfriends lay on the floor laughing hysterically.

"At least my mom is too straight." Out of breath, Zoey got back into the couch and hugged Rumi before taking a slice.

"Give me time," Celine replied.

Elsa nodded, like some sage who'd come down from the mountains, "If anyone could convince your mother she's not straight it is probably Celine."

Zoey inhaled a piece of cake wrong and started coughing, Mira slid down the couch again, wheezing, and Rumi—

Rumi gawked at Elsa like she'd betrayed her. Elsa smiled back, looking utterly pleased and innocent at the same time. Which was infuriatingly attractive.

And then Rumi remembered an old interview with the Sunlight Sisters. One of the few ways she could hear her mother's voice, Oh, Celine plays the most pranks. They're all clever and thought out too. You never see them coming.

Elsa had a penchant for mischief and Celine had befriended her. They were doomed.

Surprisingly, Rumi didn't mind. She slapped Zoey on the back until she wasn't choking, then pulled Mira back up onto the couch, "Elsa has sided against us."

Zoey reached out towards Celine, pleading, "Please don't fuck my mom!"

Celine just laughed, which wasn't really much of an answer at all. But she relented a moment later and said reassuringly, "She's a nice woman, but neither of us are looking right now. You're safe."

Squinting, Zoey pointed two fingers at her own eyes then at Celine, before resuming eating her cake.

The rest of the party was a lot less embarrassing, except for Elsa beating them all at Mario Kart. After the first race, they all agreed that Elsa wasn't allowed to pick Rosalina anymore. They then banned her from Paulina and Peach in that order.

After some other games, Bobby and then Celine left, leaving the girls to themselves. Zoey broke out some soju and they curled up on the couch together with their drinks, the air a bit charged between them..

There was a mess left behind but Rumi didn't feel like dealing with it. While they had a service that deep cleaned their penthouse every two weeks and sometimes called them in on other days, they had a habit of picking up after themselves and rarely partied hard enough to require paying someone else.

After some thought and a couple of sips, Rumi announced with all the solemnity of a declaration of war, "We can pick up tomorrow."

There were gasps and laughter from all three of her girls—Rumi might have experienced a moment of delighted shock at thinking of them like that—before Elsa asked, "Oh we can?"

"Yes," Rumi confirmed, eyeing some of the cake remains on the coffee table. Maybe she should pick up a little…

"Mmhmm," Elsa gripped the front of Rumi's shirt, pulling her closer and then Rumi forgot about crumbs as their lips met. Elsa was always so much warmer than she'd have expected, and her lips were pouty and soft and Rumi nibbled on them.

Her other girls weren't content to just watch. Mira moved in when she pulled away, kissing Rumi and then Elsa as Zoey captured Rumi's lips too.

With a great deal of giggling, they pulled each other towards Mira's bedroom. She had the biggest bed and that was where they slept most nights. Since it was Elsa's birthday, they coaxed out of her anything she might have wanted to try.

It was the best mistake of Rumi's life. In the afterglow, Rumi felt like melted butter, half propped up on pillows. Mira looked like melted butter, her head laying in Elsa's lap as Elsa rested her head on Rumi's shoulder. Zoey was sprawled out on top of all of them, holding her head, "Brain…freeze…"

Elsa laughed, "Worth it?"

"So worth it. But… you know," Zoey said, grabbing the nearest hand to one of hers, which turned out to be Elsa's, "This was the first time we've done this as like, actually girlfriends. With all of us. You know. Dating."

"Mmm," Mira agreed, nuzzling into Elsa and reaching over to grab Rumi's hand. It allowed her to be connected to all three of them and Rumi felt her heart melt a little.

But then she fought back a smile and murmured, "Wait … I thought we were already all dating?"

"What—"

"—you can't be serious—"

"Rumi, please."

Rumi grinned at them and was then immediately attacked with pillows.
