Work Text:
Of all her memories since leaving Kamino, Omega had very few that didn't involve her brothers. They had done nearly everything together. Then they joined the Rebellion and Omega lost them one after the other. Tech had been the first then Crosshair, Wrecker, and Echo. She and Hunter had managed to stay together for a while until he was killed, too. That left just her and Batcher and the pain was so bad she had wanted to die, too.
Then she had learned of a baby togruta who had lost his father in a battle against the Empire and his mother in childbirth. She took him in, named him Hunter, and he eased her pain. Four more orphan babies followed; a twi'lek she named Echo, a trandoshan she named Wrecker, a nautolan she named Tech, and a rodian she named Crosshair.
Soon she was too busy to feel the pain at the loss of her brothers and her new sons brought a light into her life she never thought she would have. After the war, she returned to Pabu and began raising her sons the way her brothers raised her.

"Mom?" came a voice rousing Omega from her sleep.
"What's wrong?" she asked her son.
"I...I had a bad dream. Can I sleep in here with you?"
Omega had to smile to herself. How many times as a child had she crawled in bed with her brother Hunter when she couldn't sleep? Now her son Hunter was doing the same thing. Call it karmic payback.
"Come here," she said lifting the covers.
The young togruta snuggled next to her. With his brown eyes, tan skin, and chocolate colored montrals and lekku, it was hard not to think that he was one of her brothers reborn.
"Do you want to tell me about your dream?" she asked and Hunter shook his head no.
"Mom, what happened?" Echo asked as he and Wrecker came into the room.
"Hunter had a bad dream, that's all," Omega said as the young twi'lek and trandoshan crawled into her bed.
A noise drew her attention to the doorway where she saw Tech and Crosshair.
"Come on," she said. "Slumber party."
The young nautolan and rodian climbed into the bed.
"Okay, boys," Omega said, "get some sleep. We leave tomorrow."
"Mom," Tech said, "what's Kashyyyk like?"
"I've only been there once but it's very beautiful; covered in tall trees and all kinds of animals. And Wrecker, you be careful while we're there."
"I know," Wrecker said. "Wookiees and trandoshans don't get along."
"Maybe he should stay here with Aunt Phee, Uncle Shep, and Aunt Lyana," Crosshair said.
"Crosshair," Omega said, "be nice to your brother."
Though she knew she was taking a risk bring Wrecker with them. That's why she had asked Phee to come with them. If the Wookiees objected to Wrecker being there, either she or Phee could stay with him on the Marauder.
"Let's get some sleep," Omega said.
The bed began to creak as more weight was added causing the boys to laugh.
"Oh Batcher," Omega said as the lurac hound settled with them at the head of the bed. "I guess it really is a slumber party now."
🌟🌟🌟
Kashyyyk looked exactly how Omega remembered it. The trees and plant life had grown back and she could hear the wildlife all around them. The Wookiees had come out to greet them; among them her old friend Gungi. He was a head-in-a-half taller than her but not as big as her other Wookiee friend Chewbacca.
"Hi, Gungi," she said giving her friend a hug.
Gungi answered back in Wookiee.
"It's good to see you, too," Omega said having learned Wookie as a child from Hunter. "This is my friend Phee, this is Batcher, and these are my sons: Hunter, Echo, Tech, Crosshair, and Wrecker."
The Wookiees began talking amongst themselves at the sight of Wrecker causing him to step closer to Omega. Gungi looked at him before letting out a vocalization and pulling him closer. Omega had seen Chewie do this with Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia so she knew it was a good sign.
"It's okay, boys," she said to her other sons. "Wrecker's been accepted."
"Is that a good thing?" Crosshair asked.
"It is, Cross," Phee said.
Gungi released Wrecker and lead them to a small hut that had been set up for them.
"Mom, can we go exploring?" Tech asked.
"Maybe later. Let's get our things unpacked first," Omega said.
The boys knew better than to argue. The first four years of their lives, they had traveled from one rebel base to another with Omega and Batcher.
"How come the Wookiees aren't talking to us in Basic?" tech asked.
"Because Wookiees can't," Omega said. "They can understand it, but their vocal cords make it impossible for them to speak any language but their own."
"This is going to be a fun week," Crosshair said sarcastically.
Personality wise, he got more and more like his namesake every day.
"They have other ways of communicating."
🌟🌟🌟
The week on Kashyyyk had been fun. Omega had been able to catch up with her old friends and her boys had made friends with the Wookiee children; even Wrecker. None of them wanted to leave when the week was over.
"Do we have to go home?" Crosshair asked.
"I'm afraid so," Omega said. "You boys have to get back to school and I have to get back to work."
"But we're having fun," Wrecker said.
"We can come back for another visit soon."
"Okay," all five boys said together.
"That's my boys. Now strap in."
The flight home was uneventful...until they had mechanical problems forcing Omega and Phee to put the ship down on a desert planet in the Outer Rim.
While looking over the ship, Omega expressed her annoyance at the situation with several of the more colorful words she had learned from Crosshair and Wrecker growing up.
"That bad?" Phee asked.
"It's a blown capacitor and I don't have a spare," Omega said.
"That's not good. How are we supposed to get back to Pabu?"
"There's a town. Maybe we can find someone we can buy a capacitor from. Let's get Batcher and the boys."
🌟🌟🌟
The town was a bustle of activity. The boys knew from their time at different rebel bases to stay close to Omega, Phee, and Batcher. It wasn’t hard to remember since some of the beings looked a little scary.
“Mom, I don’t like this place,” Tech said taking hold of Omega’s hand.
“It will be alright, brown eyes,” Phee said using the same nickname she had for the first Tech. “Your mom and I won’t let anything happen to you or your brothers. And neither will Batcher.”
“Aunt Phee, my eyes are black not brown,” Tech said laughing.
The inhabitants watched them, unsure of what to make of the new arrivals. Falling back on when she and her brothers worked for Cid, Omega decided to see if they could find someone to help them in a place called The Sanctuary.
“I’m sorry,” said a female twi’lek coming up to them, “but we don’t serve children or pets.”
“We’re not looking for service,” Omega said. “Just someone to help us fix our ship.”
A hand touched her wrist causing Omega to turn. Two youths stood next to her. They looked to be in their early twenties with droid parts in place of body parts.
“We know someone who can help you,” the girl said.
Omega was torn. She had learned how to read people and her instincts were telling her to trust them. But she was still a mother and she wanted to keep her children safe.
“Mom,” Wrecker said pulling on her jacket, “I’m hungry.”
“I’m hungry, too, Mom,” Crosshair said.
She was left with no choice.
🌟🌟🌟
Omega was on guard. It wasn’t the Gamorrean guards or the rancor she could hear moving below them. It wasn’t even the man sitting on the throne before them. It was the woman sitting on the throne’s arm; Fennec Shand. She had two run ins with the assassin and didn’t entirely trust her.
“Don’t try anything,” she said. “I’m a marshal now and my brothers taught me how to defend myself.”
The man looked at her as if studying her face.
“I mean it,” Omega said. “I don’t care if you’re a damio. I’m the law and have the power to arrest you.”
The man leaned forward smiling.
“It’s nice to meet you, too,” he said, “little sister.”
