Chapter Text
The forbidden kiss. We knew that it was wrong, that he was betrothed to my brother. But if this wasn't what he wanted, then why did he come to the field of desire? It was fated that we should meet like this…
“Hey!” I yelped as the pillow that was launched at my head fell to the ground with a thump.
“Are we hanging out or what?”
“Yes Bee, I just want to finish this chapter.”
Barty Crouch Jr., my best, and only friend, and a huge pain in my ass.
We both startled as a loud crash sounded from downstairs. It was pot roast night, and dad was definitely not having the best time in the kitchen. My brother, Sirius appeared in the doorway with an amused expression on his face.
“Should we go help him?” I inquired hesitantly
“Oh leave him,” Sirius sighed exasperated “He’s been going on about doing it himself. Although, you can go help set the table. Bartemius, you too, and wash your hands this time!”
“That was good Sirius,” Barty said with a smirk. “Now say ‘Get in the kitchen and make me my dinner, woman!’”
“BEE!” i groaned
Sirius turned with a withering glare shot in Barty’s direction, and abruptly left.
“Why are you the way you are?” I mumbled, face buried in my hands
“I think you’ll find teasing is a highly effective flirting method, Reggie boy.” he retorted with a wink, and sauntered out the doorway.
“I told you to stop saying stuff like that about my brother!” I called after him, following his thumping footsteps down the stairs.
As we rounded the corner to the kitchen, I caught wind of a horrible burning smell. My nose wrinkled in disgust at the horrid smell, and my eyes started to water at whatever spicy aroma was in the air.
“Dad! What the heck are you making that’s spicy and burning? It’s pot roast!”
“I’m just having a bit of a problem with the spice rub here…” he trailed off, absentmindedly looking in the spice drawer.
“Dad, dad I think that’s enough…spice… Anyways, let’s just eat.”
“Well hang on son, we're still waiting for Remus!”
At the mention of his name my heart gave a stutter.
Remus Lupin, my brother's boyfriend, and my first love.

I’ll always remember that day, when we met. It was a hot summer afternoon, between sixth and seventh grade, the kind that was so scorching the pavement burned your bare feet. Remus had just moved in next door and as I rode my bike past his new house, he was sitting on the steps, alone, looking rather dejected.
“What’s your name?” I asked curiously, glad that he looked to be about my age.
“Remus. Remus Lupin” he said, almost hesitantly.
“Nice, want to come for a bike ride?”
“What, not going to make fun of my name?” he asked with a bit of an edge to his voice.
“Nah, it’d be sort of hypocritical considering my name is Regulus Black.”
He smiled, and stood up.
“Give me a sec, I need to find my bike.”
Ever since then we’ve been best friends, and I've been in love. I had been in love with him since the moment he looked at me so unsure with those big, brown eyes. Unfortunately for me, he met Sirius soon after, and the two immediately took a liking to each other. They've been dating since I was in eighth, Remus was in ninth, and Sirius was in tenth, almost three years now. Of course I feel guilty for being in love with my brother's boyfriend, but to be fair, he was mine first, and it's not like I'd act on anything, it's just my own personal feelings.
That's what my letters are for. Every time I have a crush so intense, I write them a letter. The letters are just for me, so I can remember how I felt about that person at that moment. They are my most sacred possessions, and I guard them in my green hatbox littered with snake decals, with my life. There are 3 letters. Remus Lupin, from my childhood, Peter Pettigrew, from chemistry, and James Potter, introduction unneeded.

Remus came barrelling through the sliding back door, panting heavily. Barty shot me a quick wink behind his back and I made a ‘cut it out’ motion in the air.
“Sorry about being late Mr.B, fell asleep reading again.”
Dad smiled “Sounds like you Moony, you’ve made good timing actually, gave me time to do a third spice rub.”
Remus shot me an amused smile. “Sounds good, where’s Sirius?”
“I'm here, i'm here” Sirius’ voice came from around the corner. He emerged from the hallway, with a tight expression on his face.
“Remus, I'm glad you're here.” he choked out, oddly strained.
“Yeah, your dad asked me to stop by for our last family dinner before you leave for uni, is that OK?” Remus' voice was uncertain, and there was an odd tension now blanketing the room.
Barty caught the corner of my eye, and made a face to say ‘you catching this?’. I gave a flat smile and shot my eyebrows up.
“Of course, let's eat.” Sirius hurriedly said, trying to save the uncomfortable silence.
The dinner table settled into a heavy silence as we sat down to eat. The pot roast was stationed in the middle, looking an angry shade of red from the plethora of seasoning.
Everyone took their portions, trying to politely avoid the disaster.
“I can’t believe we won't be having a meal like this until Thanksgiving!” I complained.
“Well, actually Christmas," Sirius interjected “I don't have a long enough break to come back for Thanksgiving.”
“What?!” Barty and I both exclaimed in unison. “So we won't see you for four months?” I asked, shocked.
“No, sorry Reggie.” Sirius said apologetically. “I won't see anyone.”
“Well actually,” Remus piped in. “You’ll see me! I thought since you weren't able to come home for the holidays, I'd bring home to you!”
Suddenly Sirius looked uncomfortable.
“Oh, you got these tickets already?”
Remus’ face fell. “Well yeah, I thought you'd be happy about it?”
Sirius gave Remus a tight lipped grimace. Barty, my dad and I exchanged uneasy looks.
“Remus, can we go talk outside for a minute?” Sirius asked, warily. As they slipped out the front door to talk on the porch, I whispered lowly to Barty.
“This is going to be bad.”
