Work Text:

Rev was left behind, for what was probably the first time in his life. He wanted to have the last word but nothing witty was coming out his mouth as the distance between him and Bella grew.

She turned around the corner and he knew that he was running out of time to make a choice. The revenant stood there for what felt like eternity before he forced himself to move, to be anywhere else.

The only place he wanted to be now is his room. He wanted to collapse on the mattress and sleep for a millennia instead of having his brain race with too many thoughts all at once. He froze while walking, already seeing the familiar hallway that led to the male dorms.

He remembered.

Mark would be there, waiting for him. He remembered what his last conversation with Mark was and he felt dread deep in his body, the thought of having to see, or talk, to his roommate making him want to throw up.

He stood in front of the door for a few seconds before continuing to walk through the dorms. Now having no clear direction of where to go, or what to do. Sleeping on the roof didn’t appeal to him.

He remembered something else.

–the werewolf then coughed into his hand, seemingly done ranting. He took a deep breath in, and out. “Okay, what I was trying to say is, eh, well–” He twiddled his thumbs together.

“If this isn’t going anywhere, then I’ll continue what I was doing.” The jock’s ears stood up at that, and his right arm shot out for him, stopping an inch from touching him.

“Wait- wait- wait– I wanted to give you my number–!”

“I don’t want it.” The werewolf still shoved a tiny piece of paper into his hand, and he sighed, putting it inside his pocket to throw away later.

Rev had forgotten to ever throw away that piece of paper, and it may have been a life-saver that he did so. He unfolded it, smoothing away the folds and squinted his eyes as he typed the number into his phone.

His thumb shakily hovered over the call button before he gathered the courage to press it, then held the phone up to his ear.

He waited a minute, one and a half, another beat and his heart felt tight thinking that he’d have to–

Uh, who ‘dis? If it’s some hot chick who asked for my number–” The werewolf’s annoying voice reached his ears, sounding like he just woke up. Rev would never admit it, but he was more than relieved when he picked up.

“No, it 's me. Where’s your room?” The other end was silent for a second, and Rev eyebrow furrowed, having had enough of being left in suspense of an answer.

Oh– Dude! I, um, it’s room 20B.

He hung up, and stopped for a second before registering the werewolf as… ‘Wolf.’ He didn’t let himself linger on why, and instead started walking deeper into the dorms.

Once he reached room 20B, he didn’t hesitate to open it, half-expecting it to be unlocked already. He was right as the door slid open without complaint, letting him step inside.

The werewolf had sat up in his bed, in his night wear consisting of a white t-shirt and grey shorts. He cleared his throat, and Rev noticed the hints of pink on his cheeks. He closed the door behind him.

He let the werewolf speak first. “So! What ‘chu here for, man?” Rev’s jaw tightened, recalling his entire day. A lot, actually.

Instead, he didn’t bother answering that question. He instead looked over to the other bed, it was… messier than his. There were chips scattered around, the sheets looked old and a few stains of who-knows-what.

Rev’s disgust must be written all over his face, since the werewolf was quick to offer an explanation. “Oh, my roommate doesn’t bother with cleaning it since he’s always hanging out in his girlfriend’s room instead.”

The revenant’s gaze slid back to the werewolf, doing a quick check of his bed before walking over to him and plopping down on the white sheets.

The werewolf must have been saying something Rev didn’t care about, but he just took the side closest to the wall, his back turned to the other man.

He closed his eyes and tried to let sleep take him.

Rev curled into himself, trying to make any semblance of warmth from his undead body. He suddenly felt every tense muscle in his body, the cold that would never go away and the tears that threatened to fall on his eyes.

Today sucked.

It really did. And he hated today because it forced him to confront emotions he’s bottled up since arriving here and he hated that he still tried desperately to cover up the cracks in the glass.

The werewolf continued sitting on the bed for another minute before he laid back on the bed next to him.

He started humming next to Rev, and he was surprisingly not minding it. It gave him something to focus outside of his thoughts.

It didn’t take long for Rev’s eyes to start dropping, his posture relaxing and for his mind to start getting more quiet.

This wasn’t so bad, for now. Rev fell asleep a minute after.

                                                           –

Harry was seen with a black eye the next day, weirdly enough he hadn’t played yesterday, what was even stranger was the smitten smile on his face when walking to the nurse’s office.
