Chapter Text

Genya raised his gun and shot at the demon, just missing its head a few inches away. Too bad he forgot to refill his ammo the other day, as he was drastically running out. The place where his mission took place was a small village on a mountain. Reports said that it was infested with demons, which was odd since demons rarely, or even never teamed up.

With no choice, Genya ran at the demon and slashed at its arm. Blood splattered Genya and a destroyed, debris filled house. The demon screamed in agony as a swift crunch rang in the distance.

Bitter. Genya thought, tearing the arm to shreds while gulping every ounce of it. The taste of demons was rotten. Genya never liked it, but he only did it as it was his only way to be useful.

Veins engulfed his limbs and his teeth ached as bigger fangs grew. His hair grew into a tangled mess, yellow tips sprouting. Genya breathed heavily. The intense pressure made his whole body hurt like hell, but he was used to it. His mentor, Himejima, told him to try to resist devouring another demon. The same with Kocho. Even with her soft smile, Genya felt that she was deeply disappointed with each checkup.

He only now realized the demon was running off. Shit! Genya tried to shoot at it, but his panic made it nearly impossible. "Get back over here you little! -" He spat. Genya held up his gun again, getting ready to shoot. Then suddenly--- A sound of a biwa...?

The demon he was chasing was falling in some kind of labyrinth. Genya tried to stop himself, but it was far too late. Wooden rooms and corridors stretched, beyond and beyond. The place kept on shifting, over and over again. Genya felt as if he was going to get epilepsy from this. Both confusion and panic flood his mind. What is this place? Where am I falling? Am I going to die? I need to land on something or…!

At least he was in his demon form now, or Genya’d surely be dead if he were to land on something. He braced himself as he headed for a wooden platform nearby.

Fear was all Genya could feel at the moment. Sweat dripped from head to toe, his breaths getting faster. He started to take a step, only to be teleported once again. Parts of the labyrinth flashed in seconds--- hell maybe in milliseconds. Finally, it stopped. Genya saw dark figures in the distance, one standing on a floating wooden platform while six or seven were kneeling. Maybe demons?

They would be killing me right now if they were demons, no? Genya then looked at his hand, a reminder he was still a demon. He was only half-demon, however. It wasn't like he had lost control; unlike the first time he transformed.

The labyrinth shifted once again. Genya was this close to literally having a migraine, or was he already having one? Genya noticed he was now closer to the figures he had seen earlier. Close enough to hear voices. He shut one eye to see them better.

The biwa sound must come from that woman. Genya thought. There was a woman with black long hair covering her face holding a biwa in the corner.

Slowly, Genya pulled out his shotgun and reloaded it then pulled out his sword, all as quietly as he could. Which probably did not work, as another bwing came and Genya was suddenly teleported once again.

Demons. Demons nearby. There are many. Too many. Sweat dripped. Head down. His gun rattled due to his trembling. Genya's groggy-like breath was the only sound now besides the cold, soft breeze.

"Nakime, surely you did not bring anyone other than what I ordered, correct?" A voice said in the distance. Genya could feel the malice in it. Scary. He brought himself to bring his head up and looked around just to be aware of his surroundings. Of course, the figures around them were demons. Though, what brought notice to Genya were the weird symbols in their eyes. Unfortunately, their heads were too low to see what they were clearly.

"Hm, how strange! There's both human and demon scent within this boy!" The demon with light blond hair said in a weird, enthusiastic voice. Meanwhile, it seemed like the other demon standing on the wooden platform was giving orders to the woman playing the biwa. His eyes had no kind of symbol unlike the others, but his aura and presence felt terrifying to Genya.

I am so fucking dead. Death was all Genya could think about. He was probably, two or three minutes away from dying gruesomely. How did he even end up here anyway?
