Sally's Gift

Summary:

After the Titan War, Sally receives an unexpected gift from a certain cyclops

Notes:

Thank you Esmecat123 for the idea, it was really funny and I felt like I should write it. It feels better to me as a one shot, so here we are. Once finals are done kicking my ass, I'll update my stories more.

Work Text:

Sally smiled to herself, thinking about the last couple of weeks. Percy was back in school, Kronos wasn’t a problem anymore, and both Percy and Annabeth were finally together. She was just about to go back to writing her book when she heard a knock at the door. That was odd, she wasn’t expecting company.

It was probably another door to door salesman trying to sell her something, or maybe Margret lost her parakeet for the 15th time. She walked over and opened the door, blinking in surprise at the familiar cyclops that she could make out.

“Tyson! How are you?” Percy’s brother gave her a hug (that thankfully didn’t break her ribs) before he put her down gently, giving her a wide grin.

“Hello Sally! I lead the cyclops now!” She listened attentively while he told her about his promotion, as she wondered if the other cyclops were mad about that, before deciding he could handle himself.

“I want to thank you for being nice to me. So I made you this!” She stood in shock as Tyson presented her with a shotgun, exactly like the one she’d used a few weeks ago on some monster or another.

“Wha-” Percy must have told him about that, but he also said that Tyson loved to make things for people, so it was probably that. She was mostly honored that she was held in such high regard by the cyclops to get something. She smiled at Tyson who was all but vibrating in excitement, as she noticed he had the same kind of look in his eye as Percy did whenever he talked about marine life.

“Enchanted with unlimited ammo- unless celestial bronze, doesn’t work. Here are some bullets!” He handed her a few rounds and a few dozen that gleamed a dull bronze color. She smiled awkwardly, wondering if she’d actually use them. Hopefully not, and she recalled that it wouldn’t help much against monsters that Percy could end up fighting. Well, at least she had a fun conversation starter.

“Thank you, Tyson.” The cyclops smiled widely, and told her to tell Percy he said hello before he left. She was writing her book an hour or two later when Percy came home, walking through the door with Annabeth behind him.

“Hey mom, I brought Annabeth over after school, I hope it’s okay- wha-”

She frowned in confusion at his sudden change in tone, looking towards her son and his girlfriend. “What is it, Percy?”

“Um- Mrs. Jackson, since when do you have a shotgun?” She paused in before realization dawned on her.

“Oh! Um, today, actually. Tyson brought it over! He says hi, by the way.” She was looking at her children in mild confusion at the looks on their faces.

“Okay, then, Mrs. Jackson-” she shot Annabeth a look, smiling as the young girl stuttered timidly “er-Sally, we’re going to go get started on our homework.” Later when she was walking by her son’s room, she overheard Annabeth talking to Percy.

“Your mom is awesome, Percy.”

“I know, she’s the best! You’ll have to join us in making blue cookies tomorrow!” She smiled at his enthusiasm as she walked on by, thinking of how to explain her newly acquired shotgun to Paul. Ah well, one problem at a time.
