Chapter Text

A servant sworn to do what’s right,
Angelic wings outstretched with pride
And golden halo gleaming bright,
To serve a god of love and light,
With goodness on my side.

I wonder, does She hear their prayers?
In you alone do I confide
These gnawing doubts you’ve surely shared;
The loneliest affair: to care,
To be on your own side.

Once enemy, now called a friend —
Together secretly allied
Holy and hellish rules to bend
In fragile, stolen moments spent
Together on our side.

Amid the shadows doomed to stay,
Our precious, blooming bond to hide;
But beauty, hope in shades of grey
Assuage desolate nights and days.
We’re ever on our side.

But suddenly I must depart;
Dark watchful eyes my hands have tied.
I force a smile, play the part,
Ignore the rending of my heart,
Exiled from our side.

Now as I pace these too-bright floors
My mind with only you abides.
The ache of love endures, implores —
A spectre in the corridors —
Without you by my side.
