Work Text:
“ –Dennis?” Bryler said, pushing the door open. “God, you’re doing drugs aren’t you–”
“Weird way to start a conversation, and also why would I even be high– wait, Bryler?” Dennis had been on autopilot mode, he usually tends to focus on not accidentally stabbing himself while injecting testosterone (and prefers his arm intact, thank you very much), and hadn’t registered the knocking on the door or the voice calling him from behind said door.
“So, uh,” Dennis started, “This is awakard–close the door for me, would you?” Hastily pulling out the needle and disposing it.
Bryler slowly closed the door and locked it, he guessed. He turned around and stared at him(?), seemingly waiting for an answer. Normally, he would be able to read the expression of the person in front of him, but seeing as in Bryler always had his hair down way past his face, (Seriously, can he even see anything?) Although, he supposes it would be better for both of them if he couldn’t see his reaction either way–he had never been good with confrontation, he’d much rather get yelled or something than talk–
“Dude, seriously, are you high? ‘Cause, you’re cool and all, but i don’t think my cousin will be all up with that.” Bryler drabbled on. “No, Bryler, it’s not that–! It’s just–I haven’t really told anyone but uhm–”
“Bryler, what’s taking so long–and, oh, Dennis? Wait, why is there a syringe next to you?”
Brian’s voice.
“Bryler, you were supposed to lock the door!” He let out an exasperated sigh. “To be fair you said to just close the door–and just answer the question!” Bryler quipped back.
“Look, are any of you gonna fill me in or am I just gonna have to guess?”
“Can you please just lock the door?” Dennis said, words coming out harsher than he intended it to be. “Okay, geez, Dennis. Now, can anyone explain?”
“I’m sorry–that came out wrong. It’s just that Bryler just randomly came in and scared me, and accused me of being high–but I guess what I’m trying to say is Imayormaynotbetrans.”
“Say, what now?”
“I’m trans, guys.” He said, voice not louder than a whisper.
The silence in the room was thick enough to choke on. God damnit, maybe he should’ve just stayed quiet, hell, maybe telling them he was taking drugs was better! ( Of course, he would never actually say that having Bryler and Brian in the same room together hearing that would make for a weird follow up.)
Brian paused before saying anything, “So, you’re a…girl now? Do we call you like she or something?”
He almost choked on the air, normally when someone referred to him as a ‘she’, they were being openly hostile. (which is why he didn’t tell anyone else in the first place, but–) “You-you’re joking, right?” he managed to say, trying to hold in his laughter.
“Dude, he’s like being for reals you know? So like you a girl or what?” Bryler said coolly.
“No, I’m a guy. I, well, fully transitioned a couple months before moving in with Brian and the others,” he said, before pausing to see their reactions. “The syringe was for my, err…testorstrone, been using it for a couple of years. I need to , you know, dose myself every month so…” Dennis added awkwardly.
The room was filled with that strange weird tension of the three of them, sitting in silence waiting for someone to speak up.
“Wait, so you
No offence, but you look like the stereo-typical male protagonist in like a TV show or a sitcom of sorts–” Bryler stated bluntly.
So, not at all what Dennis was expecting.
Sure, he wasn’t expecting them to go on a tangent about how he would always be a girl and nothing could change that, or that they were going to start cursing him out. Not that he’d want them to–he already didn’t know what to expect but in hindsight, he probably should have known he was gonna say something weird.
“I have no idea if that’s an insult or compliment,” Dennis said, face heating up.
“Bryler, What on Earth made you think that was a good reply?” Brian said, eyebrow raised at him. Bryler just shrugged his shoulders in response.
“So, then, any questions?”
“Just one,” Brian added, “ Why didn’t you tell any of us?”
“I guess there was just never a good time, you know? And mostly because I didn’t really know what else to say.”
Brian put a reassuring hand on Dennis’s shoulder, “I’m glad you told us.”
“Well–he didn’t really tell you I mean you DID ask a lot of questions.” Bryler chirped absentmindedly, which earned him a glare from Brian.
“I’m assuming the rest don’t know?”
“That’s a question–” Bryler chimed in.
“It’s fine and yeah, but Turley probably knows–he kinda freaks me out though.” Dennis replied.
He stood up and started to arrange his things, not looking at them.
“We aren’t done here–what are you doing?” Brian started, staring at him, clearly waiting for a reaction.
“Well, I mean there isn’t much to say after that…” he trailed off, “I’m not really good at these types of things, which is weird, I guess because I’m supposed to be, right?” He let out an uncomfortable laugh.
“We should probably get going now–unless?”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it.” He cracked a small but genuine smile.

The walk to the cafe was quieter than usual, “Why’d you call us all here?” Daniel said, cautiously.
“Look, I’m trans. I’m telling you guys because frankly, Bryler and Brian caught me taking my testosterone and assumed I was getting high for some reason–,” Brian opened his mouth to speak but Dennis cut him off, “well, Bryler did. Oh, and it’s female to male, if you were wondering.”
“I thought you said you had news,” Turley added, picking on his nails.
“Why am I surprised?”
“Nah, it was probably because Turley knows everything.” Hoodie guy quipped.
“That’s…that actually makes sense for you guys. Damn, what is the gene pool like?” Brian asked.
“We still on to get coffee?” Hoodie guy winked.
“I mean if you still want, sure.” Dennis said, face flushing.
“Alright, we get it you two,” Brian chimed, giving Hoodie guy a small nudge towards Dennis.
“But I’m glad you told us.” Daniel said softly, before the Brian and Hoodie guy ran off.
Dennis let out a small slightly hesitant grin before running after them.
“C’mon it’s not fun if you aren’t following!” Hoodie guy teased.
